Hi everyone, Can we all spare one single minute out of our lives to remember this amazing person and how happy he seemed ( it’s what he would have wanted ) I’m very sad to hear he took his own life especially because he deserved to live a long peaceful life. He suffered acute depression and that’s what lead him to....😣. You know, take his own life, I hope he is up there, standing strong and high feeling as happy as he can be as life on planet earth is not for everyone. Even though i have no religion I still believe he is there ( wherever that is ) and entertaining the people around him. Whilst writing this I feel a passion and it’s because he deserves a place up there. So let us think about someone we know who is suffering and help them become who they desire, because if that had been the same for him, I feel like he might still be here now. So like I said at the start... Take a minute to remember this poor soul. May you rest in peace ✌️

why do people keep making the same mistake? A larger aperture gives you LESS depth of field, not more depth of field. More depth of field means more things are in focus, which is what you get when you stop down the aperture.

Hey Eskild! Great and comprehensive video as always! I own the a7s and I was about to purchase this lens, but one detail got me confused and now I'm hesitating wether to buy it or not. I just saw (according to Tony Northup's measurments) that the T-Stop of this lens is equivalent to an aperture of F/1.4, so way under the expected F/0.95. Apparently, compared to other 1.4 lenses, this Mitakon isn't making such difference in terms of light-gathering.. which I find hard to believe. I've been searching on Google for days now and I didn't find any real answer to this question: "Does this Mitakon lens have (roughly) a full stop more advantage compared to a 1.4 lens?" (as F/0.95 = 1 stop more light than F/1.4) I thought the only way to know would be to ask to someone that owns this lens... Quite simply :) So, have you noticed a HUGE difference in terms of "light" with this lens? I guess you own other fast lenses, if you could quickly compare any F/1.4 lens to your Mitakon at the same settings in a dark room and tell me if the difference is here, you would make my day... :) I'm really lost right now. I hope you'll find the time to reply :) Anyway, great video, awesome content. Keep it up! Cheers!
@EskildFors8 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc. Great question! This lens has f/0.95 bokeh - but the in terms of speed, it's "only" about f/1.2 (from my testing). It is the bokeh that makes this lens extraordinary =)
@marcbizzy35538 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks for the really quick reply! If what you say is correct, then I'm not surprised. But can we still consider this lens to have (almost) 1 stop more light? As you may know, other Rokinon/Samyang - Sigma 1.4 lenses are actually F/1.6 or F/1.7 .. so, if the Mitakon is actually 1.2... that would proportionally still be a good stop advantage.. ? What do you think? I'm really curious about that. I'm a low light freak, so you know, I plan to buy this lens for the super low light rather than the (truly amazing) bokeh. (Even if it's a big plus to me too!) I should test it myself, but there's no any seller here in France...

+Emil Borsting I'm glad you like it. The f/0.95 gives a really nice depth of field, which is often associated with the so callede film look =)
@AgnostosGnostos8 жыл бұрын
Simply the only reason someone will buy this lens is to shot at f/0.95 only. Otherwise there is no reason to spend so much money. It costs half the money of Canon 50mm f/1.2 which isn't close to the tremendous f/0.95. Mitakon has other manual lenses too which have raised the bar like the 135mm f/1.4 for full frame e-mount and the 35mm f/1.4 for APS-C e-mount. The Leica nuctilux 50mm f/0.95 has a price that even common professionals can't afford. The lens can be found used at even lower prices on ebay. This lens reminds me the autofocus Canon EF50mm f/1.0L USM lens. Its price was 3.000$ brand new but at f/4 despite its L quality had the some sharpness of a Canon 50mm f/1.8 at 150$. For that it was removed from production. However at f/1.0 it was unbeatable and even now it costs much more used than when it was new. Bokeh demands big aperture and many are big spenders on bigger apertures. Plus the sony a7 make the manual focus easier with peaking and focus zoom. It's a revolution.

@EskildFors9 жыл бұрын
+Xelot Film I'm honored to hear that. I have the 24-70mm, and I think a fast prime is an excellent second lens, especially good for interviews and portraits. This Mitakon can be a little challenging to use, especially wide open, but stop it doen to f/1.4 or f/2.8, and it's really excellent - as long as you don't mind a little manual work ;)

The Mitakon is a portrait lens. With portraits soft corners, chromatic aberration and vignetting at corners aren't a serious issues. What matters is creamy Bokeh, good contrast and very shallow depth of field.

The off-center lights in the background are blurred to be almond-shaped rather than round or oval - which I find peculiar. I would assume it's due to the front elements' size constraint (think looking through a short tube that's not pointing straight where you are looking - you'll get an almond-shaped view). But understandably any f/0.95 lens will come with limitations, and any sub-$1K lens will, and this one is both. Nice video!
