Before I pitch too you guys my own Superman movie I thought it'd be appropriate to revisit the other superman movies (specifically the latest incarnation) to deconstruct that superman and see if we can make a superman more inline with how he should be represented. Excited to see what you guys would do with a superman movie !!

If you looking for inspiration for your Superman pitch, I recommend you to check Superman & Lois TV series, specially the flashbacks from episode 11. It's one the best adaptations of Superman (alongside DCAU and Superman vs The Elite) and a exemple of how to adapt the hero in the modern days without sacrificing what makes him likable and appealing.

One good scene that could be in your Superman movie is Lex Luthor trying to buy Superman by opening a brief case full of money. Superman looks at the money and then at Lex who gives a him a smile, but Superman closes the brief case and says “no.”

But look how many people complain about how he has power that he was born with and can do things that others cannot which in their mind makes him boring. Even the Russo brother slaundered the character and the whole of dc by claiming superman and dc heroes can't work in cinema because they are just all powerful and therefore boring, but they were quick to glorify batman, pretty much the only character in dc everyone in warner bros respects and is quick to make heroes villians so batman can get by.

In order to make an intriguing Superman movie, they should focus more on the characterization of Clark Kent. Just like the Captain America trilogy. People see him as the ww2 hero, the legendary Captain America, as seen by his interaction with others. But at the end of the day, Cap sees himself as Steve Rogers, the skinny kid from Brooklyn.

I was never a Captain America fan and didn't know how they would pull it off in film, but what I enjoyed about Cap in the MCU films was I felt like I was watching Superman. Cap wondering what American had become and wanting to give hope for others to be better. A lot of the first Thor film and Cap felt like what Superman is.

They need to focus on Clark's relationship with his parents. And on the good parenting that he receives. And the quiet and happy life that he lives in Kansas. What makes Superman iconic is the fact that he represents the good part of America. His motivation should be the love he feels for people. Clark should be a loveable and kind hearted man. He should have a warm smile and be almost naive in his view of the world. When he moves to Metropolis, he should feel shocked at the lack of empathy people in the big city have. The movie should focus more on his struggle to connect with the people of Metropolis because they have become cynical about others who say they want to help.

Batman isn't defined by trauma either, he's defined by feeling obligated to save Gotham in incredibly romantic fashion, despite the sad loneliness it brings him, because he feels it's what his parents would want him to be. Remember his father was a doctor and his mother was a charity worker. As batman he saves Gotham from the evils of crime, the evil that took his parents.

I have this image in my head that always pops up for what I would think would be a great intro for a Superman movie. Imagine Superman in a small town playing baseball with some kids on the street. He's being casual, he and the kids are joking, and minor curses are being thrown around. Something akin to The Sandlot for example. We see the scene take place from a kid's camera, as he's recording from a distance. So a pov shot. Supes is being cheeky as the team he's on is winning with the help of his powers. This goes on for maybe 3 minutes, until we pan from the pov shot to a normal cinematic movie setting. Supes hears something in the distance that needs his attention, and he flies away. That's how I'd start a Superman movie. Thanks for reading.

I am upset with myself for not thinking of something like that but if you would indulge me, I would like to share my Superman opening. I think mine would be for the Superman II film that follows your own. First, we officially put Metropolis on a map, it is in Virginia just outside of D.C. The first several minutes are setting up minor emergencies across the country. A surfer is knocked off his board in Hawaii, hitting his head on a reef and falling unconscious under the water, a child lost in the woods in Washington state, and a family struggling with a cow giving birth on their farm in Iowa. But the biggest emergency is in Metropolis, as a bank is being robbed. Three men with guns fire at a line of police cars to cover their getaway. In Hawaii, we see a crowd of fifty people surrounding the young man brought back to the beach where CPR was successfully performed. They're looking up to the sky, crying out their thanks. The three men split up in the back alleys, the youngest of them making a wrong turn and running head first into the crowded side walks. The little girl lost in the woods is absolutely bawling her eyes out, crying for her mommy. A voice calmly says, "Everything is going to be all right." She looks up and stops crying, a smile missing two front teeth spreads cheek to cheek across her face. The young man with the gun knocks several people over as he runs, hearing several police officers on foot chase him down. Out of sheer desperation, he grabs an older woman by the waist and yanks her into a corner store, knocking her grandchild over. In Iowa, the calf that was just born is not breathing, its mom panicking and the young, inexperienced farmer is as well. Another hand grabs his own and places it on the calf's chest, the same voice telling him "calm down, she's depending on you. Let me help." The young man pulls the old woman into the back of the corner store, ordering everyone else out. With a gun to her head, he threatens the police. Absolute chaos is spreading across the crowd. "Look! Up in the sky!" The very first shot of Superman in this film is him floating down to land in front of the corner store. The police and first responders clear a path for the man of steel to enter. The old woman's grandchild is pointing at the store, crying, trying to explain to Superman what's wrong but is on the verge of hyperventilating. "He's-! He's-! He's-! He's-!" Superman takes off his cape and wraps it around the kid's shoulders. Kneeling down to eye level, he ruffles the kid's hair and says, "Everything is going to be all right. I promise." He enters the corner store. "Back off! I'll do it! I swear!" "If I wanted to hurt you I can. I can move faster than the bullet in that gun, but I'll break every bone in your body. I can use heat vision to burn it to slag but you'll lose that hand. But I do. not. want to. hurt you." "... What are you gonna do?" "Ask you to put the gun down, let her go, and turn yourself in." "They'll lock me up!" "Yes, but you hurt that woman and you'll never be a free man again. I'll make sure you go to prison for the rest of your life. You end this nonsense here and now, a jury will look at you better, you will have a chance to get out. You're not a killer, yes you will be punished but you are no murderer. It is never too late to do the right thing." "..." The old woman squirms to be heard. "My name is Evelin, now my grandbaby is waiting for me. His name is Miles. What's yours?" "... Raymond." "You have a grandma too, everyone does. What is she going to think if she hears that her baby boy is a killer on tonight's evening news?" Superman whispers, "It will break her heart." The young man begins to cry. He hands the gun to Superman and allows the police to take him into custody. Miles hands the cape back to Superman, he and Evelin hug the man of steel as the crowd erupts in cheering. Title card

Superman is allowed to be OP because he’s a good guy. I’m sick and tired of them making him evil. We get it, he’d be really menacing as a bad guy. Making him evil is basically a trope at this point.
@Linator4
@Linator4 Жыл бұрын
Tbf DC isn’t entirely to blame for that trope. Omni-Man & Homelander were created well before DC pulled the trigger. They just didn’t become popularized til The Boys & Invincible were put on Amazon several years after DC launched the Injustice games. There’s also Brightburn which wasn’t their creation either. DC’s mainly just done it with Injustice & the Knightmare visions in Justice League which I blame Snyder for. I honestly don’t mind Injustice, but they did it way too soon when we barely even had Clark Kent established. That’s an Elseworlds that should be explored like a decade down the line & kept FAR away from the main DCU continuity. I agree that they just need to nail & establish classic Superman first & foremost before there’s even any weight to him falling so far from grace in an alternate universe.

Yes he was best suited for dark and warrior type ip like Batman and wonder Woman. Literally in all of his first three dc movies wonder Woman and Batman stood out the most than Superman. Superman two movies upto that point but he was still dull character. Wonder Woman movie had Snyder co writing with patty which turned out to be first critically acclaimed movie in DCEU. Snyder made Batman the fighter we all know and he even made some aspects of things good, but the only big let down with Batman is totally devoid of compassion and humanity of that character. Batman might seems to be less compassionate than other jl members. But, he was totally opposite of the assumption. He can be very easily get heart broken, he feels human emotions more than most.

@Will N I saying Zack is best suited for warrior type characters in general. For example take 300. Superman is not a hardcore warrior, he is a farm boy who has very sense of justice with very good heart. But wonder Woman total identity depends on her being warrior. Batman war on crime depicts him also as a warrior. Hence, wonder Woman and Batman stood most out of Zack Snyder DCEU Trinity and Superman had two movies before Justice League but still other two over shadowed him.

It's pretty crazy when you look at Snyders movies through the Altruism v. Objectivism lens. Take Army of the Dead for instance, a movie Snyder had 100% control over. The script had exactly one Altruistic character, Dave Batista's daughter. Not only did the movie make her out to be the most hate-able character in the movie, her actions directly leads to the deaths of not only her Dad, but the people she tries to save and the Pilot. Every other character starts out selfish, but when they do end up performing a good, altruistic act they get killed moments later. The pilot not leaving, the safe cracker saving the guy who was a jerk to him and the Coyote luring the Alpha away with the head of the Queen are all examples. Hell, even the woman who professes her love fr Drax gets her neck snapped 2 seconds later. Snyder takes the term "no good deed left unpunished" literally. ;)

Admittedly when I was young I use to neglect the character, although I still acknowledged the character's presence, I was mainly into popular characters like Spiderman or Batman (even though I still love those characters a lot). But after years of reading comics and watching shows and films as a teenager, I then began to understand what the character truly means to the world. Superman has quickly become my favourite superhero, as the character constantly reminds me the what it means to be good and the simple reason to be good, simply because it's right. The character has taught me that we have to keep on going, we have to persevere in the midst of the struggles and challenges of life, even now with my current depression an social anxiety, I still keep on going because I know that deep down there will be a better tomorrow. Its easy to have a cynical mindset in life and understandable, but whats truly a challenge is having hopeful and optimistic mindset, but worth it to help others and better ourselves simply because it right. I truly love the character of Superman so much and have been a little disappointed with how the character has been handled in the DCEU, even though Henry Cavill could've been a fantastic Superman, as he truly loves and understands the character as proven by his interviews and even would've rather preferred to depict the character to be more hopeful and optimistic. I am actually currently writing up scripts for my own take on the DCEU with castings, themes and plots based on countless films, shows, animation and comics and my own ideas. I deeply believe @SUPER_FRAME and myself share a similar idea of wgat makes for a good Superman film/trilogy, and much like him I have been inspired to one day make pitch videos for my own take on the DCEU and have written up ideas for a Superman trilogy, a Flash film, a Green Lantern franchise and so many more etc... At the end of the day, I thoroughly believe that now more than ever, that *the world will always need Superman!*

That whole flashback episode is the best exemple of how to make a Superman movie by making a new story while making tribute to what came before. I specially like how that Superman origin isn't about him having to earn people trust and dealing with prejuice and the fact he is a alien, but rather about Clark adapting to his new life in Metropolis and developing romance with Lois, which helps him overcome the break up with Lana (which I love that it's caused by the fact that Clark spend to much time training with Jor-El, showing how his decisions can have consequences)

@@thejoker194 I agree to an extent. I understand what Snyder was trying to do with these characters. He's puts a realistic view on them and that's fine but they are still superheroes. You can have moments and situations that real life applies but don't forget who these characters are. Snyder deconstructs Superman but he doesn't have any values he was taught by Jon and Martha. Batman crosses the line and I understand why but Batman no matter how far he gets down he never crosses the line. That's what Snyder missed.

Superman is an amazing character who really deserves to be done justice on the big screen so the general public can see him for who he is. He isn't some perfect all powerful savior, he's just a dorky guy from Kansas who wants to do the right thing because he knows it's right. Edit: BTW, for the comics you use in the video which comics are they from?

I completely agree with this video! While I do admittedly enjoy Snyder's films, I do agree with how they haven't been the Superman films they should be. However, there's one thing they shouldn't do and it's using Lex, Doomsday, or Zod. We need new villains, someone like Livewire, Metallo, Parasite, Toyman, and more. He has a rich rogue's gallery, yet the films have barely touched up on that! And yes, Superman should be hopeful and optimistic, similar to how Captain America is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Or have him be done like in Superman and Lois, which I don't know if you have seen the show, but that show is basically what I like to see in a new Superman movie! Plus, it's a great show!

For me, it all went downhill with BvS with this Superman. With Man of steel, even if I consider it pretty meh, you could kinda see where Snyder was going with it, even if the execution was pretty pretentious but at least there was something akin to what many consider “the road to becoming the Superman we know and love” (“I grew up in Kansas, general”) but then BvS backtracked on all of that. Whereas MoS left Clark with a renewed sense of hope and good will, now is turned into unexplained grittiness and undeserving misery and brutality. Example, supposedly Clark killing Zod was a lesson for him, to vow not to kill again and him becoming more of a pacifist, and if that’s so, why on earth his first appearance in BvS is him killing a normal human being by crashing through what seemed like a dozen walls? Where did his character development go? And as you rightly say in the video, why on earth does he even bother helping people if every time he does it he’s miserable? Some try to call this making Supes human but, no, moping and being sad all the time isn’t human, it’s just what someone trying to be edgy would think it’s human. Hell, making Clark just look on in silence while a freaking bomb blows up around him is the most inhumane thing he has done! And as others have pointed out, this version of Superman barely even speaks so how in the world is he relatable in any level? How does the in-universe society see him as a hero when he constantly behaves like he could not give a damn? I don’t know, I’ve never been a fan of this version of Superman and whatever promise the ending of MoS retained was stained by BvS and Snyder’s JL (where, mind you, Snyder can’t even decide whether he wants to make him the hero of the day or a doomsday clock). I agree with your points in Snyder’s direction. He’s a guy of action and style over substance, not of introspection and philosophy, and yet that’s exactly what he tries to do with his movies and, well, he simply doesn’t achieve it. It looks good, not gonna deny it, but looking good doesn’t make a movie good. Sure, they use the most grandiloquent dialogue to make everything seem big and important but none of it matters when the moment of truth comes. Example, Batman sparing Clark. Yes, we all get it, he doesn’t kill him cause he begins seeing himself as they guy who killed his mother, the scene makes it crystal clear what it’s about, the problem? That in the next scene Batman keeps killing people left and right without a care in the world! Hell, the only thing suggesting change is a speech that’s so damn standard and cliché it could have been written by anyone. But, as you say, Snyder sees killing as cool and he’ll compromise story and character for a cool visual. Another, Flash saving Iris in JL, cool scene but, what purpose does it serve? Iris doesn’t ever appear again and his powers are explained later on so, why is the scene here? Why is Iris so calm when she’s about to fucking die? Why does the truck have to blow up and why doesn’t the Flash tries saving the driver? Again, none of this questions matter to Snyder cause the scene looks cool and that’s all that matters. This wouldn’t be a problem but given how pretentious Snyder makes his films with social commentary and religious metaphors and other bullshit, his mantra of doing films “for the real world” becomes an empty promise.

"MoS left Clark with a renewed sense of hope and good will, now is turned into unexplained grittiness and undeserving misery and brutality" wrong. BvS saw superman face controversy in the public eye. He was criticized for existing, blamed for things he didn't or couldn't do, and feared because of what he could do. Every action he took was viewed as "political" which was explicitly stated in the movie. Superman was stressed because of all the toll this public disdain created. This is nothing new, earth 1, what's wrong truth justice and the American way, red son and even the animated series put superman in this position several times. "Clark killing zod was a lesson for him to vow not to kill again" that's your headcanon and was never stated or implied in MoS. Superman doesn't need to have a "vow" not to kill because he's a normal person. Normal people do not need such a vow they just know it's wrong. Snyders superman much like comic superman will kill only if it's necessary. In Canon he's only killed zod and doomsday, people he's also killed in the comics. He didn't kill the terrorist, he just put him in the hospital. "Moping and being sad all the time isn't human" I'm sorry what magical fantasy unicorn land do you live in? Many people go about their daily lives sad do you know what that's called? DEPRESSION. And unless it's chronic there is always a reason behind it. In supermans case it's humanity being critical of him. How would you feel if every action you took in your life was misrepresented, misunderstood and criticized? Also I love how you leave out the part where he OVERCOMES those negative emotions and sacrifices his life for humanity. His mood is also better in his next movie. Do you know what that's called? A character arc. Stop ignoring half an arc to further your narrative. At best its ignorance on your part at worst intellectual dishonesty. "Clark just looks on in silence while a bomb blows up around him" Clark's face is clearly sad. He felt guilty he couldn't stop it. Why is silence a problem? Is there a set standard for how people should react to traumatic events? "This superman barely even speaks...." this isn't a valid criticism. The only time this actually holds true is his confrontation with batman where his lines were contrived to start a fight "That in the next scene batman keeps killing people left and right without care" wrong interpretation of his arc. Batman spared superman, he realized he was going to kill someone innocent and stopped. That didn't change how he fought crime that just changed how he viewed himself and superman. He goes on a frenzie to save Martha, he's desperate to save a parent. It's only after supermans death that he proclaims, "men are still good" which is when he completely changes the way he fights crime. This is shown in the next movie, suicide squad where he not only tries to peacefully arrest dead shot and reason with him, but he also tries to SAVE JOKER AND HARLEY FROM DROWNING. BvS batman would have never did something like that. Supermans death caused batman to want to honor his memory by viewing humanity as "good" or "redeemable" and that extends to villians. "Why is iris so calm when she's about to die?"I love how you say the scene doesn't matter yet you ask questions that don't matter. But to answer, she's calm simply because she had no time to react. By the time she's hit she's launched out thr car, she would have died instantly. In regards to the scene as a whole, you mention later on the flashs powers are explained yes but his powers are SHOWN here. Show don't tell. Furthermore it gives characterization for Barry. It shows how competent, careful and methodical he is with his powers. "Snyder makes his films with religious metaphors" every live action superman movie has done this, that's nothing special

Say what you will about The Quest For Peace, at least the creative team had their hearts in the right place and Superman actually acted like Superman. In fact, how is that the best portrayal of Superman in the DCEU was a faceless cameo in Shazam? But on a serious note, if you want to see Superman done right, look up the short film "One on One" by Jake Thomas.
