I started learning Flutter in August 2023. The reason is personal and meaningful to me. My father runs a business, and he used to rely on a physical bookkeeping system, which I noticed was time-consuming and difficult to manage. That’s when I thought, “What if I build an app to simplify his work and make everything more efficient?” This idea inspired me to learn Flutter, as it’s perfect for creating apps quickly and effectively. I was initially very fascinated by flutter when i came across it for the first time. I equate flutter's versatility to the early days of Java and the creation of the Java virtual machine(JVM). The machine specific programs had become such a headache that they really wanted a framework or a language that can run on any machine without issues. I learned Flutter basics about 2 years ago just for FOMO and fun. Now I'm re-learning more in depth with the goal to create a full app. I'm about 1.5 months in, and slowly building the app while also learning through videos. My background is web dev (Angular and React) and I had made my app initially with Angular (and Ionic/Capacitor), but my current goal is to recreate the app much better in Flutter.

I've been learning how Flutter works since May last year so I could build a special todo app. I'm done with pretty much everything up to this point but I still need to figure out how I could get the notifications to work to increase the value of the app itself. From what I've learned, it's unlikely that I'll be making another app on my own like it considering the amount of frustration and time it took.

Much of the frustration comes from not knowing what’s going on. That’s when you can ask AI to teach you :) good luck!

For anyone having a Null pointer java error while showing a notification you need to change the NotificationsPlugin.show(id, title, body, NotificationDetails()); to a lowercase notificationDetails() as that is the object we created, NotificationDetails() is but a type!!!! Also dont forget to change the _isInitialized variable to True when after you initialize!!!

You didn't pull down the notification shade... I assume the notifications are all stacked in there as well? I'm wanting to create a notification that doesn't pop up but instead silently goes into the notification drawer, and shows an updated stream of data. Imagine a timer (like countdown or stopwatch) notification in the notification shade where you can see the current timer time, with a pause/play button. A more advanced tutorial for this would be fantastic! :)

It is automatically the app icon. So if you change the app icon, it will do that automatically for you. pub.dev/packages/flutter_launcher_icons
