Replaced the carb on my Ruckus. It was really hard starting and eventually got to the point it wouldn't start cold at all. Instead of rebuilding the carb, picked up a new one for $38 bucks on Amazon. While working on it, I took off the air box cover and filter. Swapped the carb and it start right up and got it to idle smooth. Reeved up fine on the stand. Took it for a test ride and it lost power\bogged out while trying to ride it (just like this video). Took me a hot minute to remember Mitch's video of this issue. Put the air filter and cover back on and it rides like it should. Simple as that. I didn't think having the air filter out and box cover off would produce that lack of power\bogged down effect but it did. Although not directly related to this video, seeing it point me in the right direction. Thanks Mitch.

I will try your method, hope it will solve my problem. First time my '22 ruckus started loosing power just as you've shown on the video. The simple solution you have given would be just right for me. A first time ever scooter and on a terrible economic footing, can't even afford a visit to the mechanic and work I can't afford to miss either. Finger crossed

I have power loss too, but I checked the air filter and it seemed to be fine. It will lose power when I throttle it up to the point that it conks out. Any recommendations? carburetor?

I have the similar problem, I purchased a 49cc moped and it can only reach 30 kmh (18 mph) but should go at least 45 kmh. It seems to have power at full throttle but doesn't go faster. My bike only has a air filter pod and no air box. I wonder if there could be an air leak causing this in my bike too. I noticed the rubber seal for the air filter has a crack so I taped it over with electrical tape so it seems tight and it has a metallic clamp over it as well.

Hey I’m a pretty big guy 6’1”200 and I’m looking for a good quality shock that is for a little more weight. I want one that requires no modifications and just remove the old one and drop the other one in . What do u recommend for a good solid shock ? Is this NYC or nay shock worth the money

Hello Mitch, wondering if you had any experience with the temperature light coming on on the Honda Ruckus? I can go weeks or months with no issues and then it will come on everytime I ride. Happens quickly after getting started or can wait 20 minutes. When the light goes on, it loses power, then have to pull over turn off then on again and usually it then runs fine for the rest of the trip. Thanks

Sometimes when you turn the ignition on it starts sometimes it doesn’t but it’ll always kickstart. I’ve tried everything and cannot figure out what might be causing this to work sometimes sometimes not.

Hi Mitch, I have this same problem with a 2009 I picked up with 1200 miles. It was bogging a whole lot, but slightly at full throttle. My air box cover was very warped, so I replaced the air box cover, the air filter and a new spark plug, now its is horribly worse! What did I do? Any suggestions? TIA

@@MitchsScooterStuff It is much better now. I changed the fuel, fuel filter, air cleaner, air box cover, spark plug, air tube to carb, jets, and reset the ECU. The last thing left to do, since I have done everything else, is check the timing. Thanks to your videos, I had the confidence to do all these items.

Have a question if anyone is still active. My 2016 ruckus 5,800 miles. Made a turn and went to accelerate and now it's Screaming Very loud. Seems like it's coming from the kick start side. When I accelerate now it screams SUPER Loud. Don't make that noise just idling only when it engages to take off. Any idea's what this could be?? Tyia

Hi Mitch, tomorrow i`m gonna get a 2006 Zoomer. I`m in germany, so this one is with fuel injection. The problem is, that this one is starting, and if you don`t throttle a bit, it stops running. The error code shows " TPS sensor error ". ( 8 flashes ). Over here, it`s very very hard to get a new sensor. And if you get one, the price is 500,- Euros/Dollars. If the error code shows throttle error, does it have to be this error...or could it be that there is another problem ( maybe something like problems with the fuel pump) that causes this error? Hey congratulations getting Zoomer tomorrow! I would disconnect the ECU for 10 minutes, and clean the connectors on TPS, then connect everything to see if problem go away 🤞🏼

I don't see my problem in the video or comments. I have the same power loss but worse, it won't hardly move from a stand still. But if i push it some it will climb in speed and around 15mph it gets power and then sound and run fine! But once i come to a stop, it has a hard time running and doesn't want to take off again. Help my Obi Wan Mitch! Love your videos.

Scooter is 2018 50cc Honda Ruckus. Has only 700 miles, so everything looks really good and new still on the engine. It originally had sporadic bogging at low and high speeds. Cutting in and out and dying but not horrible. Pulled the carb and replaced the jets with OEM Honda jets. Low idle jet was clogged and I thought that most likely was the problem. Took off from my house and it felt strong as ever. Ten minutes into a ride when I pulled up to a stop sign, it died and took forever to crank. Once started with a lot of full pinned throttle to keep it running, it would take off really really slow in a full bog the whole time with no power and very choppy. But once I get to 10mph, it takes off like it has full power. ✅New spark plug - stock NGK ✅New low idle and main jets -stock Honda ✅Top plunger on carb moves freely, needle clean, diaphragm looks new and is flexible ✅carb bowl and and floats clean ✅Tested fuel pump by pulling hose off carb and is pumping good and click clacking good ✅recklessly sprayed carb cleaner everywhere while it was running and no air or vacuum leaks found-didn’t burn bike down ✅air box tight, new air filter ✅new fuel filter before fuel pump ✅new gas tank ✅new sending unit ✅autochoke electrical connection seems tight ✅took off negative battery cable and unplugged computer for two minutes ✅performed ECU reset after unplugging computer ✅pulled cover off CVT transmission, belts and pulleys look good ✅throttle cable is adjusted to have proper slack ✅idle screw is set to keep it running and a little high only because it won’t stay running

@@kreyssigkills we have a 2018 ruck, 650 miles. just checked the valves and they were tight, ordered shim kit and fixed it tonight. its bogging a bit but will address it tomorrow, for now i am thrilled i got it to run finally. figuring it out as i go.

I've got a metropolitan which is the city boy version of the ruckus. I weigh about 220 in spring after gaining winter weight. With my boots, coat, backpack, and a full load of groceries I'm probably pretty close to that. It still runs just fine. Just adjust your suspension and change out the weights in the variator to favor acceleration over top speed. It's a sweet little ride that will last forever if you treat it well. You will love it.
