Mithun Rearing Containment Fence is an important and a yearly regular activity among the Idu Mishmis who tame mithuns in the village.
Every year the mithun tamming or owners gather together to make the fences to restrict the movement of mithuns within a grazing area with availability of streams and rivers nearby. Making these fences stretching several miles and mountain ranges have it's own advantages at large. The Idu Mishmis practice jhum and shifting cultivation, hence containing these semi tammed mihuns help protecting the agricultural lands and produces. Also, the making of these fences ensures that the mithuns rear at a particular restricted area, hence becomes easy for the owners to look after their animals and easy to locate it.
I couldn't film the making of these fences as we were very few in numbers and were busy making the fences as it was race against the time to complete it in time. This video is just a few min shot after the completion of fence with just the final inspection and mending wherever necessary.
Even though it was a very short clip, hope you got the idea behind making of such fences and hope you have enjoyed watching it.
Thanks for watching!!
