May 28, 2017 - Easily one of the most powerful and captivating performances at Boston Calling 2017 belongs to 27-yr-old, Mitski. Under threatening skies, she performed a number of songs from her 2016 release, Puberty 2, as well notable tracks from her earlier works. After her fiery set, Mitski told Front Row Boston, “I am a natural introvert-- it’s not that I become a different person on stage - I think I finally become myself on stage.” We look forward to what comes next for her!
Setlist:
Dan The Dancer 2:00
Francis Forever 4:18
I Don’t Smoke 6:53

Mitski is one of those artists that would come to a country like Ireland, which has so few people comparatively, to perform. She probably will only earn enough to pay for the stop, but she's coming all the same. I saw Jessica Lea Mayfield recently (who's actually announced a tour with Mitski in the States), and she's in a similar boat. There was barely anyone at her gig, but it was awesome. I thanked her for being so selfless and devoted. So pumped for Mitski in October.

Funnily enough, I find it's the bigger bands that often don't come to Ireland, at least in my experience. Two of my favourite bands, Circa Survive and Deftones, barely ever play Ireland. It took Deftones ten years to return to Ireland. They came in May 2017 and sold out Vicar Street I think. Great show. The last time they were in Ireland was 2006-2007. Circa Survive always tour, but they never come to Ireland either. I have been a big fan since 2006, and I haven't seen them come here in that time. But I saw Jessica Lea Mayfield in Whelans earlier this year and it was fantastic. There was no more than 50 people there, but she still came. She and Mitski were supposed to tour together in the States, but Mayfield had to withdraw because of her health. That would be an awesome show. A lot of the smaller metal bands I follow from America often come through Ireland as well.

I saw her for the first time on a whim. That show changed my life in all sorts of gorgeously unexpected ways. Can't wait to see her perform again. This time I have an idea of what to expect, and I'm so fucking excited for that reason. Mitski is heart incarnate.

i know this video is old, but to everyone commenting you dont like her voice or that she sucks, pls remember literally no one fucking cares lmao. its good that u have an opinion but maybe keep it to urself if u have nothing else to say except for "she sucks". mitski puts a lot of thought in her songwriting, its full of symbolisms and storylines, and she also focus more in emotion that vocal technique, but shes very good at controlling her own voice, quickly changing between headvoice and chestvoice. not to mention her songs are about woc's experiences. pls understand that before bashing her lol dont discredit her genius writing just bc ur experiences dont fit within hers. edit: its literally all men commenting shes bad without giving any actual criticism???

@@lausagna idk, people are allowed to express negativity as long as it isn't harassment or like, sexism etc. and I know this trite, but saying no-one cares and the writing out this paragraph is funny. I like her a lot too, but this weird need to defend her even when by you're own description no-one will really read their comments seems a little obsessive. like Mitski will talk about in interviews about how she finds it odd that people cry at her shows, or when people yell that they love her at her shows. "you don't know me" to be ultra clear, not excusing like just hateful comments.

The hurt, yearning, loneliness, anger and selfishness; all of the ugliness that comes with being human. literally the only thing i want in my life is to see mitski live, but i live in a tiny european shithole so the likelihood of her ever coming here is almost zero, so i'm really glad that the Internet (tm) exists so i can kind of be part of this amazing experience. i dont know. i'm tired.

@floof4794
@floof4794 5 жыл бұрын
I find it soo strange that one woman can make me sob more than almost anything else that i ever have and ive never even experienced anything that she sings about. Its just the pure passion in her voice and how mutch she cares about her music this is the purest form of art. If i could ever do one thing it would just be to meet mitski and thank her for making this world soo much of a better place for anyone who has heard her music. I know that its almost impossible thta mitski will see this but if by some miracle of any god she sees this i just want to say thank you soo mutch for everything you do mitski i truly thank you from the deepest depths of my soul for making my and soo many other peoples lives soo mutch better you are one of my favorite people and have saved me from soo many terrible and toxic thoughts that would have destroyed my motivation or drove me too even worse. So i dont know if ive said it enough yet but still thank you soo very very much you extremely attractive woman. If i could ever find somebody even half as wonderful as you i would be happy enough that god could take me and i would be satisfied and just typing this message thats been in my head so long feels so very wonderful. I hope that mistki can have a wonderful life filled with people who not only she cares about but they care about her.

at the very beginning where she describes how she feels being on stage is exactly how i am. i am so quiet and awkward in real life, but as soon as i start performing, the feeling is unreal. it's like i am opening up to who i really am inside. it's seriously like magic and i love it

i recently started listening to her, i knew she had some sort of cult-like popularity (sorry if i worded it badly) but at first her songs didn’t really click. but i pressed replay a few times and now...i hate myself for not knowing the exact words to express how she makes me feel inside. therapeutic pain maybe.
