Hey Al, I really appreciate the kind words my friend. As far as pressures go the inverter compressors are unlike a normal because the compressor is constantly ramping up and down so there is not really a way to check pressures on them.

Hey Ralph! For "Flaring" Mini Split Line Set, for now i only use the "Yellow Jacket 60278." It is made specific for R410a, and Mini Split Flare, but the advantages of this particular tool is that it gives you that TRUE 45 degree flare that it's required to bond properly and create a more leak resistant flare! I have not had any leaks at all using this tool. It has all the same or similar features as the one you show in this video. I personally NOW cut all my Flares and when possible Braze. cont-

Thanks Daniel, the outdoor is a 2.5 ton 3 zone. I used this match up for a future install. That's the nice part about the inverter you can mix them up like that. Plus they were out of 2 ton's

Hey Martin, I love Mitsubishi, I really wish that's all I ever did!!!! Don't get me wrong I like doing what I do but if all I ever had to do was install or work on mini splits all day I would be in heaven. I just did another 2 zone today in an office space.

I wish the video showed the evac, pressure test, and charge part. With multiple zones, is there some kind of sequence? Do you do evac-test-charge for each zone or is there a common service port for all zones?

As usual a really professional looking job I'm always impressed with your work. I was wondering, when you have some time, if you could talk about the pressures one has to look for when installing a mini split. I can remember something weird or unusual about pressures and line temperatures of the line set when I first looked at a unit running. It didn’t seem to operate like a normal split system.

Great job, Ralph! Line sets look nice, those units are ultra quiet. I see you're trying out the Hilmor brand, have to do a video showing how well they work. :) I've got the 60278 (like leanorlando), and it works pretty doggone good as well. Thanks for the video!

Hey SRG, I forgot in the last comment, the flare nuts on the unit are thicker then what comes on the linesets, that's why I said they should be used. As far as the hole goes, It was purely luck!!!! I wish I were that good.

I have a couple of questions..1. Would you use a tie wrap with a screw mount and screw it to the line hide inside and label your line set with head? 2. How long of a line set is recommended not to go over? May have a 50ft or 100ft one to do with 2 zone 2 head hp. 3. Would you use that polyteck plastic line set pipe or use copper? I know I would use copper, I'm a copper guy not a plastic guy, lolol. Thank you for the video and experience. HVAC TECH FOR MANY YEARS. THANKS

I enjoyed that! Nice work (and luck) being able to avoid cutting up any more sheet rock. Or studs, yikes. It's a pleasure to watch someone do a job that really knows what they're doing. Why is it better to use the flare nuts? What could happen if you don't?

I've installed a few of these, gotta be careful brazing can void the warranty. I agree with you on hilmor, they make some good tools. Only thing I don't like with the mini split is the price, the last one I installed cost the owner 3,600.00 dollars for a bedroom. My bedroom at home has a 100.00 dollar unit that costs roughly 50.00 a year, the difference being how much money you are trying to get rid of.

What is your opinion on doing a whole home multi split? I'm a service technician out of Birmingham. We do only a handful of mini splits mainly in electrical rooms and such. But ive never been able to see ones performance in a house servicing multiple areas. I just purchased my first home and this crawl space is TIGHT about 20". The duct work is a hack job, and completely undersized for the 3 ton air handler they have installed. So my options are either rip everything out and start from scratch. Or I've not played around the option in my head to installed 4 mini split heads.. Some guys are saying it would be a huge mistake and others are interested in seeing the results. You seem to do a lot of work with them. Whats your opinion? Thanks

new Mitsubishi with heating down to -13 degrees and full 100% heat down to -5 degrees can really do a great job all year. I saved a fortune not running oil furnace all winter, just 3 mini splits, 4th one going in now. Super efficient, 26 and 30.1 SEER. Mitsubishi are terrific, quiet, reliable, EFFICIENT, more than any oil furnace with all the loss in the ductwork, same with central AC, lots of loss in uninsulated old ducts in the house. use the mounting plate as the template, on Mitsubishi it's all documented extremely well It's a 2 7/8 hole, it matters, so when you use the through wall insert it's a perfect fit Hole saws come in 2 7/8 carbide for going through brick or old composite shingles from the 70's.

How do you keep insects from building nests in the drain line exit opening near the ground? I can see this being a problem leading to a clogged line? Also,cant a snake crawl in and end up in your indoor unit/hose?

If one were to install a multi zone unit as shown in this video, and added an additional air handler to the multi zone compressor down the road, would connecting the new air handler line sets cause any loss of refrigerant? And how would one test the newly installed line sets for leaks, again without losing refrigerant? Please forgive if my question is absurd, as I am not an HVAC pro.
@dwjonz
@dwjonz 6 жыл бұрын
Robert O'Dell You would need to pump the refrigerant back into the outdoor unit. Then after installing the new head,follow the normal evacuation procedures. Then add the extra refrigerant for the extra line set used staying within the maximum distance limits.

Why didn't you just bury the lineset instead of putting the lineset cover running horizontal along the house? I'm guessing it was due to the electrical running in the pipe. Could you just run conduit under ground to protect the electrical. It seems like it would make for a cleaner install.
