Watch as I replace rear brake shoes on the right side of my 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage. I did both sides but my camera didn't want you to see the left side so it deleted that footage.

Thank you for this. Just replaced my rears. Purchased new, 55k miles, toasted shoes and drums 😂. Lot of highway and city driving. Used raybestos shoes and duralast drums fit great. Only thing I had to do was file the hole where the emergency bracket attaches to. Only took a couple of seconds. Shot a tiny bit of silicone on the shaft to let the drum slide on easy. Done and done. Thanks again.

Tremendous help, thank you. Just adding that resetting the adjuster all the way back is so important when putting the new pads in. If it’s not set correctly, and you can see the teeth (ridges), you won’t get that damn drum back on.

That's good info I should have added. Thank for this and thanks for watching
@ludolibre8522 жыл бұрын
what part is that exactly? Thanks
@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL2 жыл бұрын
C Michael is referring to the adjuster. It the part that needs to be reset to allow the drums to fit over the pads.
@justinprovost20822 жыл бұрын
With that adjuster, does it self tighten itself?? as its not like the old drum set up where u can use a screw driver and adjust it thru the hub with a screw driver. I just replaced mine today and the handbrake isn't as tight as it was b4.

This was REALLY helpful (I have never changed brakes on anything before). Additionally, you have a cool, laidback manner that makes it seem less daunting. Thanks man. BTW - those ARE the most adorable pair of vice grips I have ever seen. ☮

You saved my ass by mentioning to secure the shoe to the backing plate. I had the shoe sticking out with the adjuster reset, looking all confused. Thank you 😊

Hi other mirage owners, this car requires you own a grinder/cut off wheel for every repair. So go ahead and take that grinder wheel and slightly grind the opening of your "auto adjuster" that goes inbetween the shoes if you cannot easily get the drum back on. It should end up looking like a shark/gator with it's mouth in a triangle going towards the top, only takes a minute(You may need to slightly then shorten the little spring that goes there too).

When I did the drum brakes on my truck there was one tool I wish I had bought and it’s for those pesky last springs. I ended up making on out of a small old flathead and I cut a bitch into it with my dremel. You catch the spring end in the notch and use the end of the screw driver to lever it over in place then a slight twist pops it right into place

my drum won't go back on. If i try forcing it, it starts shaving part of the new brake and it seems like too tight of a fit. any tips on how to resolve this?

Use a grinder on the self adjuster thing to open up the slot making it look like a mouth of a gator

I have a pair of channel locks that are like 18 inches long and makes that bottom spring easy you can use the spindle as leverage and it goes right on

I did everything you did in the video and I cannot put the drum back on. Can you help with this
@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL3 жыл бұрын
I can try. There is a chance that when you replace your brake pads and try to reinstall the drums the drums might not fit over the new pads. Check your drums for a lip of steel inside the drum that will not let the drum slip over the new pads. If that lip is removed (sanded, hit with a grinder, removed with a lathe) the drums should go on with out issue. I did not think about this problem when making the video so I didn't add it, it seems like I should have, lots of people are commenting on this problem. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Very helpful video! I just have one question, what is the brand of the shoes you got and did you any issues putting the drum back on? I bought Centric 111.10590 (from Amazon) and could not fit the drum back, they seem too thick. I loosened the adjustor and the parking brake cable and still could not do it. Had to reinstall old shoes back again. I read on the mirageforum that some people grind the aftermarket shoes in order to make the drum fit and I'm not too convinced about that. Thanks!
@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL3 жыл бұрын
The first time I changed the rears in my Mirage the drums had a lip on the inside edge of the drum that's stopped the drum from slipping over the new shoes. I used a grinder to knock down the lip and the drums slipped over the shoes fine. I hope this description helps. Thanks for watching!

The issue is with the self adjuster and requires you open up the slot a bit

Are you not going to adjust the shoe? Or show the process on how to?.
@kyky7kyle72 жыл бұрын
If you haven't taken the plunge to install them, it's not hard but you'll need a grinder to make the adjustment
