For goo removal, I've found isopropyl alcohol to be a good solvent that won't harm paint. And is widely available at 100% (no water) in any pharmacy. Acetone is even better, but it'll eat most older paint.

Enjoy your videos. 👍! It’s great to be part of a family of people keeping vintage machines alive and well. I have technical question I hope you can answer. My pre unit t 100 has 10,000 original miles and has never had engine work done. My original owners manual doesn’t show or mention anything about a sludge trap. Do these vintage 500 cc engines have a sludge trap to clean as do the 650’s, thanks.
@TheMightyGarage
@TheMightyGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, wow that must be great to have an original, low-miles, engine. Yes the T100's also have a sludge-trap that will need to be cleaned out at some point. It's a big job though. Cheers, Mike

@@TheMightyGarage thanks for the info. Yes, to be exact, the bike has 10,740 miles and hasn’t even had the head removed for a de-carbon. It’s been in the family since it was new and has always been garaged in a dry, stable environment. I run non ethanol free premium and after winter storage, and a tinkle, it fires on the third kick. I only put 100 miles or less per year on it since I have so many other classic toys to play with.

It sounds fantastic, James. I absolutely love the original bikes. I didn't have much choice but to restore my T110 but would loved to have been able to keep it original. They always look so great compared to the restored bikes. Best wishes, Mike

Nice video again, always look forward to Sunday morning to see what your upto. Will you be laquering over the pinstripes? What price are Vincents over there? Got to pay about £50,000 for decent one in the UK. Keep safe and warm, Lenny from Leicestershire, UK.
@TheMightyGarage
@TheMightyGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lenny, yes I've ordered a little bottle of clear coat that I plan to paint over the stripe. It has lifted away in a couple of spots on the bend and the clear coat should hopefully hold it down and protect the pin stripe from gas/petrol for a while longer. I would say that prices are a generally lower at the moment for the Vincents and everything else that I've seen recently. Cheers, Mike

Hi Steve, I got the pin-striping tape from my friend Geoff who has recently completed a couple of tanks. I think he would have got it at a local car parts store or possibly online, but I will check when I give him back the remainder of the roll. Cheers, Mike

@TheMightyGarage
@TheMightyGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hehe, I'm ashamed to say that I haven't made much progress with the Manxman. Just a couple of little updates here and there, but nothing substantial enough to make a decent video. I might do a little montage of all the little updates one of these days and I'm really hoping to be able to do some paint spraying as soon as the weather gets a little bit drier and warmer. I had planned to paint the bike during 2020 but it just didn't work out with everything going on! Best wishes, Mike

Cheers Mike, enjoyed your video as usual. I noticed that you went to a different type of petcock. A performance mod for better flow?
@TheMightyGarage
@TheMightyGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi George. Thanks a lot. Yes, hopefully both for a better action and better flow. Losing that screw concerned me about the old taps and they were getting a little harder to pull with the cork seal. These new taps should hopefully be better. Cheers, Mike

Brilliant video Mike , many Thanks. You were really making me feel negligent as I do not think I have ever cleaned the bottom of the petrol tank. :-( LOL. My tank looks as beat up as yours but as I keep dinging it cant see the need for a re-spray.:-) I really liked the new taps where did you get them and do you have a P# etc. One question on the new taps is, how easily do the levers rotate? I hade a set like these in brass from Coventry but they either leaked or I cold not turn the levers. On a related not it must be petrol tank Sunday As the 850's tank is on the bench as I write this for some well needed de-rusting soaking. Have a great week end and thanks..
@TheMightyGarage
@TheMightyGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, yes, I hope the new taps will be better than the old ones. I was worried about that screw coming out, especially thinking about what would have happened if the plunger had fallen out. Plus, they have become more and more difficult to use because of the cork seals and I also think the flow was poor. I got the new models from Coventry Spares. They weren't cheap but they are very nice. The part number is 82-3057c (Petcock 1/4 Round Lever). They are the same design as the old brass-models in that the tapered tap operates a ball valve inside. The lever rotation action is a little stiff at the moment, but will hopefully free up with use. Good luck with the tank! Best wishes, Mike
