Great game! The commentators critique UFA for picking defense to start. Folks pick defense to start so their team starts on offense at the second half. Starting on offense at the second half helped UFA.

Why not benefit from starting on offence at the first half?

It decrease the total number of offensive points. Period.

(1) Starting with defence is easier, less pressure, you don't need to score, that is just a plus. (2) When grabbing halftime, you get another offence right away, which is a psychological advantage. The other team doesn't like it.

@@robwsur The other team also doesn't like it when you score the first point of the game. It's harder to score from defence than it is from offence. If you start on defence then you need to score a break at some point in order to win the game. If you trade points then whoever picked offence wins. It's a pretty simple logical advantage. The higher level a match gets, the fewer turnovers, so the importance of picking offence increases. In the WUCC men's final, the team that lost in universe point picked defence to start the game, for the "psychological advantage". Teams should be psychologically prepared to score the first offence of the game as reliably as they would be for the first point after half. The idea that increasing the number of chances you have to 'break' is somehow an advantage is very misguided.

@@FelixUltimate I absolutely agree. With a higher level there are fewer turnovers and the disc must be valued even more. When one turnover can decide the game, you should pick offence. No doubt about it. I was explaining, why choosing defence may be advantageous. Then in this particular game with windy conditions and several turnovers, I don't think that choosing defence was the determining factor, and that was the question raised.
