Ivy, I am a mixed media watercolor artist that loves incorporating collage into my art. I very recently became aware of encaustic wax as a medium for collage and found this piece and how you interpreted the items that came in the box so incredibly inspiring. You certainly let your creative wings fly and it was such a joy to watch the piece come together. Thank you so much for sharing your process. I took a bunch of notes on items used and also greatly appreciated your list of products used with links to Amazon, etc. This is a breathtaking piece, truly! I think I might would have been very intimidated by the stencil, though I use them in my backgrounds, this doorway was the star, but you let the girl shine through your layers of mediums used. What a wonderful first piece to have watched. Keep letting those wings fly. You have a gift to be sure! xx

Again, thank you so much. This piece touched me deeply. I am just coming out of a depressive phase (I suffer from clinical depression) and this is so like I am feeling. Exhausted but triumphant. Leaving the darkness of depression behind and walking back into the light. The wings are not mine; they are my guardian angel’s wings covering and protecting me and helping me leave the ugliness of pain and darkness of depression. A Hug to all those who suffer from depression. 💕💕💕

Thank you! You have a great understanding of various media. I like the way the stencil, collage, paint, and ink fused together and unified the whole piece, especially after applying the wax. I've used encaustic with oil before and you can create exceptional ephemeral work. When I saw the wings, I thought they might not be necessary. Overall, a stunning piece full of atomsphere.

Hi, Ivy. I wrote after Part 2, but maybe you won't see it, so will add it here. First of all, absolutely beautiful! I probably would have called it quits/done at many points, but you kept going (and using ALL your supplies!)and made it so intriguing! My question is this: I've been painting with encaustics for several years and we've always been told- absolutely no acrylics with wax! Have you worked this out with your clear gesso or is only one or two layers going to be okay? What has been your experience with the wax adhering long term? Thanks and again, just lovely!
@suejensenart35018 жыл бұрын
I'm going to try that! I did notice that you tried to keep the 'glue' underneath and not put so much on top.

This piece is lovely. I'm wondering how the wax adheres over time since the one big no-no we're taught is not to use encaustic over acrylic since acrylic isn't absorbent. I've done the freezer test on some with even just a minimum of acrylic and see it's ready to pop off. Thanks.

Other craft supplies to use in lieu of metallic lustre is Perfect Pearls or PearlEx
@chloemauro-razafimanantsoa66574 жыл бұрын
ibkristykat I agree, they are great to use. What worries me here is that the shimmering paste is made for furniture and Ivy doesn’t mention the ingredients or having looked at the ingredients being safe to use with your finger. Always check whether a product is safe if it comes on contact with skin, or whether you should use different mass with various powders and liquids. Health and safety is primordial.

It may have been better to secure the wings with some small bit of hardware and then wax over the point of attachment.
