Gesso is a primer, but can also be used for blending and other techniques. All supplies should be available in a good art shop, though I usually buy online as there are no local shops to me. Try ebay and Amazon - If you are in the UK, I buy a lot from Jacksons.

Yes, they are just like any other wet medium, you will get mud if you mix certain colours, but you can blend others to create secondary & tertiary colours, light, shadow & tone, so whether you dry them or not depends on your needs.
@artfulevidence
@artfulevidence 13 жыл бұрын
@Moonlitrose9 Gesso is a prima, so expensive paints do not sink into absorbant papers and get wasted. However, it also makes a brilliant blending medium and I use it often to blend out colours, create highlights and texture.

@KDavison1228 I think you have misunderstood - You can only write over Neo colours if they have been dissolved with water - it is the neos, not the pen that you use water with. Hope that helps.

@MyScrapWorld StazOn ink is solvent based and permanent on most surfaces including non porous surfaces like glass, plastic etc. Versafine ink is only permanent on porous surfaces such as card & paper.

@margs321 I'm not sure of the exact weight of cardstock I used here - at least 300gsm though, and ultra smooth surface, though hot press watercolour paper is best for this technique.

@crush0227 I usually have a vague idea I want to achieve in terms of theme, style or colour scheme, though most of what I do is just made up as I go along!

@fuzzyfishbones You can work on them either wet or dry, depends what effects you are trying to achieve. Obviously for blending, they are better wet.

So glad I found this, I love this piece, nice work! I too have struggled with pen over the Caran's. You suggest diluting the pen with water first? Should that pen be water based or alcohol? Could be a silly question, but I have to ask! Again, thanks for sharing your skills, love it!
