I’ve never seen this technique for a journal cover. This looks great and looks like fun. There is hardly anything on television I want to watch except this time of year and I watch all the Hallmark Christmas movies. Being newer to this journal community, I had never seen your fabric paper journal covers, and I am fascinated. Every dollar store/home decor/ craft shop location near me that might sell napkins is now on my to visit list. I know there are many Etsy shops that have them, but I must have been distracted when God asked for raised hands from those who wanted patience, because I think that quality missed me altogether.

Hi Gayle, this first cover reminds me of the fabric paper creation you made as your injury was healing a few years back and you were wearing that black sling. I had just had my surgery and could relate! I really love the various napkin pieces you glued to this Christmas fabric. Such a gorgeous project, and I cannot wait to see it when dry. For your fabric cover that you showed at the end, you were deciding on a front and put the Holly & Berries tag on front. It reminded me of a candle! What if one would do all napkins with the last layer only a pretty tissue? Wonder if toilet paper or paper towel would work in place of napkin. I better stop wondering before I get lost! Lol
@gayleagostinelli_ct3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you could experiment on a piece of fabric that you don’t particularly like, then if you have to toss it, nothing is lost. I do think paper towel would be too thick though and toilet paper too thin. Haven’t tried them, but just my initial thought. ❤️
@JodiLewisCreations3 жыл бұрын
I did this last year with muslin as my fabric base. Then layered white layers until only a decorative as my top base. I was pleased with the outcome. Although, I think I did too many white layers as my cover is stiff. It is pretty though.

Good morning Gail ! I want to thank you so much for sharing all of your talents ! This cover is looking great! A few year's ago I was wandering around on KZbin and one of your videos popped up, I have been hooked ever since and I had never even heard of junk journals lol. So you have opened up a whole new world me, again Thank you 😊! Thank you, Ann! Yes! I saw Mrs. Cogs journals and the tags. I saw the tags first on Instagram and asked her if she was selling the tags. 😂. I bought an Audrey journal from her years ago. Gayle - this is so interesting. Is there a benefit to ripping the white portion of the napkin into various strips before covering it with the Modge Podge solution rather than laying down the entire napkin and then putting on the modge podge solution? I like this idea, but if I can save some time , I’m going for the simpler process. Thanks for taking the time to post this video..
@gayleagostinelli_ct3 жыл бұрын
You can sure do that. I like the torn because once it’s dry, you feel and see more texture. ❤️

Gayle, I love this idea!! This is my first time seeing this process for a journal cover. I guess I need to watch your journal cover series playlist! So many videos, and so little time! I am confused now though. In the below comments a statement was made about which was the outside and which was the inside. Does the fabric go on the outside and the napkins go on the inside? Which way does the final journal cover go? I am asking about the black and red Poinsettia cover you were working on in this video. Please reply.😊
@angiebailey40803 жыл бұрын
On the first couple layers using the white napkins can you just glue the whole napkin down at once?? Or is it better to tear them for them to adhere better?
@gayleagostinelli_ct3 жыл бұрын
I like the texture of the torn edges. It doesn’t show as your gluing down, but once it’s dry, you can see and feel it. ❤️

Been enjoying your videos. Love your process. Do you always watered down the modge podge when doing napkin projects? I’ve done a few projects with full strength and have found it difficult to manage. Wasn’t sure if just me or a better way to do it. Thanks for your help.
@catherinekelly80973 жыл бұрын
When you are covering front and inside covers with the same fabric, have you ever thought of putting the fabric from the spine around the edge and to the spine again? Thus, there is a “finished” edge that the sewing abuts…. Spine fabric and lace would cover the ends …
@lalagamma44523 жыл бұрын
You were going to tell us about using book pages instead of napkins and you got distracted. Would that work? I believe the last time I made it or try to make it I didn't use enough mod podge.
