Ugh yes. When people give advice they give it like it’s an ultimatum. For example, an influencer said that Differin gel was irritating to their skin and they didn’t like it, so I didn’t use it. Then I heard several dermatologists say that it was good for acne, and I was desperate. So I tried it finally, working my way up to using it every day after several months, and it CHANGED MY LIFE. I’m finally comfortable in my own skin. I don’t feel like I have to hide it. And I would’ve missed out on it if I hadn’t listened to other dermatologists and their opinions.

as an esthetician who as watched you for years, i have adamantly told my clients to avoid makeup wipes for the same reason you do. however, as someone who also has sensory issues, i get the appeal… the water running down your arms when washing your face and getting all over the place can be an “ick” or deter people from doing a skincare routine entirely. personally, i shower at night so i can properly double cleanse but use a micellar water in the morning, which i feel like is gives me the best of both worlds, but i know this isn’t possible for everyone. i guess my biggest lesson from working with people in the skincare industry is that sometimes finding a routine that someone can stick to is more important than creating the most advantageous one, especially when they are just starting their skincare journey. but i will always recommend micellar water over makeup wipes 😂

You’re the reason I stopped using makeup wipes. I've been noticing a big increase in videos that say "YOU'VE BEEN DOING YOUR SKINCARE WRONG" "YOU'VE BEEN APPLYING YOUR SUNSCREEN THE WRONG WAY" or "STOP USING CHEAP BRANDS" and it really worries me because the "information" given in those types of videos come with no context or is just the opinion of one person, but THAT's what goes viral. I think the messaging in those ultimatum-type videos is really dangerous and can actually be very disrespectful to other creators that share information in a more responsible (alas not so viral) way. Loved the video, as always!

I totally agree about chemical sunscreen!! I’m sensitive to it. I haven’t found a chemical sunscreen that I can use on my face. I love them on my body, since you can get really lightweight sprays and they’re easy to apply, but they burn my eyes SO badly. That being said, I’m a pretty fair skinned white woman. People of color don’t have the luxury of having their pick of mineral sunscreens, and discouraging them from using chemical filters will likely cause a lot of people to not use sunscreen.

Susan, I bought your Naturium Bio-Lipid body lotion. I love it!!! Just one suggestion. I know tubs aren't for everyone due to the fact they don't like to put there fingers in the lotion and contaminate it. But what about a tub with a pump? That way people who like pumps can use it that way and those of us who like tubs can use it the way they like too. I have about a third of the lotion left but the current pump in the bottle will no longer get it out and because it's so thick, it's hard to take the top of and squeeze it out. And the opening is too small to really get your fingers in. Anywho, I hate to waste so much and thought I'd make the suggestion.:-)

I forgot about that when I bought yours though lol. That said I am still reevaluating my relationship with chemical filters, especially as brands are stepping up their mineral sunscreen game. Online brands like; EleVen, Oath Md, Sonrei and Anya Esthetics have some amazing mineral sunscreens. Drugstore brands are slowly but surely catching up as well ☺️

I almost always ask people what their skin type is and what their issues are when they complain about a product. Someone like me, an oily/“normal” skin type who is acne/breakout prone with hyperpigmentation issues will have a completely different experience with, say, a water cream/gel moisturizer than someone who has very dry skin. Or something like a cerave cream, which I hate but they’d love. I also have never mixed my skincare products because, to me, it just seems like common sense not to do that. The Vitamin C subject is interesting and why I tend to go for airless pumps as much as I can (like Timeless’). I figure there’s less of a chance for oxidation and less loss of efficacy than one in a screw open bottle.

Makeup wipes seem to be wasteful...I'd take a cleansing balm any day, and micellar water in a pinch. Cleansing balms (or oils, and even good old cold cream) feel more lush on my skin. I prefer chemical filters for sunscreen due to no whitecast - the slightly dewy look of those K-Beauty or Japanese brands is a plus. Isntree and Biore Aqua Rich are my go-to, and there also is a local store brand here called Dermaction from Watsons in SE Asia which is a hybrid formula of chemical filters + nano TiO2 (blends nicely with no noticeable cast on my skin, though it smells like glue as it is fragrance-free lol). All are lovely for both my face and body (pretty reasonably priced too imo). Also, hm, DIY-ing skincare concoctions sounds scary. Saw some DIY sunscreen recipes really ticked me off and sounded scary; who knows how many small gaps there in between the TiO2 particles at a microscopic level and let the UV rays reach the skin?

I use makeup wipes on work days. I work healthcare so I do 12/13hr shifts 3 times a week. I'm inside all day and not by windows. So I don't wear sunscreen because I get to work when it's dark and I leave when it's dark. I also never wear makeup EVER. So I'm not using make up wipes for make up lol and I never rub my face with them, I use one wipe and gentle go over my face. But I also just use toner, serum, and a moisturizer in the morning. Throughout the day I normay wipe my face with water with my hands due to oil/sweat from the constant movement. At the end of the day I'm so exhausted because I also drive 45 minutes to work and 45 minutes back home. So I just take a makeup wipe and gently wipe my face then quickly do the rest my skincare stuff. Then straight to bed. 😭 My work is soooo exhausting and all I can think of is bed, just wanna rest. 😭😭😭

My family is originally from Scotland so for the most part; we are pale people! Sunscreen is our friend. Eighteen years ago, my sister and BIL adopted a gorgeous Hispanic baby girl. We spread sunscreen on her older sister to keep her pale, we spread sunscreen on E and she turns PURPLE!! After a lot of trial and error, we finally found a couple of products that work for her and she is probably the most consistent with her use. Purple is not her color!

Aww 😅 that used to happen to me with certain sunscreens. My skin would look purple/blue, so it took a while to find sunscreen that didn’t do that. Took forever to find one for my face that also didn’t break it out. Japanese sunscreen, Biore from Japan, works really well on my face and I have sensitive acne prone brown skin. It helps with my hyperpigmentation from my acne not get darker.

As a person with allergies and severely compromised lungs- DON'T USE SPRAYS ON AN AIRPLANE!! THE SAME AIR IS RECYCLED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FLIGHT!!! Thank you that is all 😆
@hausgbear8284 Жыл бұрын
Airplane air isn't recycled air, idk why people keep saying that, but as a flight engineer it drives me nuts. All the air is replaced in 5-6 minutes on turbofan jets which are usually the engines on commercial flights.
@shea5638 Жыл бұрын
@HausGuzlBear " Newer airplane models recirculate as much as 50% of cabin air, decreasing the engine's work. The recirculated air passes through high-efficiency particulate filters before mixing with conditioned fresh air to reenter the passenger compartment." Still not safe for people with allergies and severely compromised lungs
@hausgbear8284 Жыл бұрын
@shea5638 it's recycled within that 5-6 minute cycle. It's not harder on the engine to make bleed air. It's just part of the process. Also the HEPA filters are on par with hospital HEPA filters. But the air you take off with is still never going to be the same air you land with (unless you're Kylie Jenner 😂).

They're so irritating and drying! I don't even have dry or sensitive skin and they are SO HARSH I just refuse to use them even if I am camping. @@DimaRakesah If you wash your face afterwards why should you have to worry about any of that? Besides you have to find the right ones. I use the Mac makeup wipes. They're biodegradable btw!
@DimaRakesah Жыл бұрын
@@alexrusso8029 Because if the wipe leaves my skin dry and irritated I am starting off worse than I was before. Cleansing again won't change that, and now I have to mitigate the irritation and dryness. I also find that my skin breaks out from irritation so now I have to deal with blemishes as well. I just don't see a point in using something that will make my skin worse when I could use something gentle that has none of those problems. And I am def not alone. Many people find wipes very irritating and drying, so I don't think suggesting them to people is a good idea because of the common problems they have. If they work for you, fine, but generally speaking they are just not a good product because too many people have reactions to using them.

Love this, but idk why everyone says airplane air is recycled air. It's not. On a turbofan jet, it's bleed air from the engine and all of the air gets replaced every 5-6 minutes. When the cabin pressurizes there are outflow valves that have to open due to the engines providing a constant flow of air. If these outflow valves didn't slightly open through out the flight, then the cabin would become overpressurized and explode. The reason the air is so dry is because there is a water filter that takes away 75% of the water in the air otherwise it would freeze the air pack system. Idk who started this rumor but it drives me nuts. Thanks for listening, Your flight engineer friend 🙃

@morgianasartre6709 Жыл бұрын
I don't think the even spread is that much affected if they mix properly, but they are risking it by playing chemist and interfening with the stability of both formulas, their end product might go bad faster of just lose effectiveness. And they have no idea how much tretinoin is being applied in a given application unless they do some math too, which I doubt.
