Mixing 2-Stroke Fuel for STIHL Machines

Here at STIHL SHOP Ellerslie we are frequently asked about mixing our 2-Stroke Fuel, so we have decided to create a video to show you just how easy it can be.

Hi, I have a 5L jerry can, there are times that I need to top it up to prepare for the next job. My question is how will I know how much more 2 stroke oil I need to add into the jerry can? Thanks

Have 2 jerry cans, the last thing you want is to have too little oil and kill your tools. Can't fix a lean seize from lack of oil except replacing the top end... Having 2 cans will allow you to always fill them up and put the proper amount then once one is empty you have the other one that you can do the proper mixing once it's done. It's worth paying 25-50 bucks for an extra can than 200-300 for a new top end.

@@em4703 thanks. That is a good idea too. I realised that I can just make sure to fill up the 2 stroke jerry can first so I can see in the screen how many litres i added extra, then I check the equivalent oil for that extra fuel.

Thing to remember is it's better to mix it oil rich ,you may foul a plug but it's cheaper to replace a plug than it it's to replace the whole machine

Use another can and put gas and oil in it. Than add this mix to the can you will take with you.

I used briggsa&stratton oil 24 to 1 and melted my piston in a short time now just 60psi of compression.

My Stihl dealer said 25:1 if it's not Stihl 2 stroke oil. Is this correct?

70 years ago 25:1 was okay. Now we have better 2 Stroke oils. So 40:1

I did read this in a Stihl 74 manual online. Check your stihl Model online if you don’t have the book

Also if I accidentally added too much oil into the jerry can, what should I do?

Nothing, extra oil will just burn off/come out the muffler. Just make sure the carb is set rich if the engine sounds lean, depending how much more oil did you put. I recomment 40:1 anyway, the 50:1 is for environmental norms. 40:1 will keep the crankshaft bearings last longer.

Stihl oil is made by Castrol. Any Castrol 2T oil is good. I use Motul 800 off road 2t. 40:1 ratio 25 ml oil per 1liter fuel. And not 50:1 like epa wants.

Castrol aka BP won't admit to this even when their logo appeared on the bottle. I rang their help line to try and get it out of them

If regular HP didn't provide as much protection as the Ultra then the wouldn't sell it. There's nothing wrong with HP Red.

No need for 98 or 95 91 is perfect for these engines . Some advice on 50:1 Go 40: 1 motors last much longer but they don't want you to know this👍

I'm sure it 20ml oil for every 1 litre when using stihl oil, slightly more oil if not the stihl brand but please check other comments for advice.

I just have started using HP Ultra for my MS231. It smokes only for the first few seconds after a cold start. Once saw warms up a bit and I give it a full-throttle smoke goes away
