"Bass D" has a lot of hissing noise, why didn't cut all the higher frequency out? Also there is a "blend" pot so probably you don't need to create two tracks?

As a bass player who is just really getting into doing my own recording, I found this very helpful!

in such context it's also very handy to create BASS folder with bass tracks, so the balance between those 2 tracks won't mess when mixing whole bass along the rest of the instruments in the mix :)

Really helpful video. Interesting that we boost the low end on bass instead of removing the rumble as on guitars.

It's an excellent video. Very clear, very watchable. Obviously I'm not cut out for long stints in studios. The first thought I had was "Never mind the bassist, shoot the drummer". Quickly followed by "Why not shoot the lot of them?" I'M HERE TO TELL YOU - Four blokes and a drumkit is a dead duck. The hardest thing to find are decent songs and good singers are "Once in a lifetime". No matter how much engineering and mixing goes into this song it has no energy. Nothing that made it worth anyone's time. IMHO of course. Far be it from me etc BUT......there is a gap here and it concerns dynamics - not of the studio but of typical repertoire. What happens when everything drops out except the bass, then joined by the singer and the drums....last of all? What happens if an arranger orchestrates, punctuates material rather than the typical rock-democracy mistake of "everybody plays at the same time - just because they are there with tape to fill?" But it's a good video about mixing bass. Even I can understand that. Thank you. This is Mr. Gioia and he always does good stuff.

Hiya, Kenny an another fantastic video - just what I needed, when I needed it -thank you! Could I please ask how I get the fat db readout to the right of each track panel (like you have in this video), along with the mute, solo and phase buttons? I don’t know if this is something. iVe messed up with a theme, or if I’m missing a setting? I’ve tried all the ‘meter’ options I get when right clicking in the track left hand panel and they all give me skinny options where I can’t see the db numbers? Thank you for any help you can give!

can you make a video or do you have a video about where to pan instruments in songs. i like having a straight left and straight right guitar because it sounds good to me on headphones but find that they become muddy on phone speakers
@KevinWayne
@KevinWayne Жыл бұрын
Def an important video for me today~! But wouldn't you want to do a "Safety Cut" < 30 dB or so, so as to not introduce mud? Or maybe take care of it on the Master track? Doubling the Bass as you've got it is a good technique in any case.

Thanks for posting this Kenny. As a rock bass player I am not really into their distorted sound but I can understand how it might work in some cases. Is there a bass amp VST that you can recommend? What order would you put the EQ and the compressor in if you're also using an amp simulator? Thanks im advance?

Awesome video! How do you achieve such a great result with just a few simple steps? I have a question though: how do you bring up mixers for the selected tracks? What's the keystroke?

Since thetracks are identical, this should not be the case (peaks will add, boosting the volume), unless you flip polarity or nudge the waveform of one of the tracks!

They're called regions in Reaper. Shift + R will make one for the selected time period. Then you can right-click on it to edit name and colour etc.

Great vids and all, but this kind of music is a breeze to produce compared to heavy metal, where everything is played loudly and fighting to be heard in the mix. Thats where the real challenge is.... Can you please start doing some vids on eq and mixing heavy metal music?

To be honest, I hear a bit too much low end adding up from Kick, Bass and Tom tracks... am I the only one? Maybe I would have cut (or shelved off) a bit from the toms and maybe the bass itself, especially the distorted track which doesn't need it at all...
