You're so good at mixing live drums I mean, in cover or lives videos, you always managed to make them sound awesome and massive while still sounding natural and using no samples And you should definitely do more of these videos

Great video, thank you! I especially liked the tom EQs, I didn't think they'd be so drastic but it sounds great! Two video ideas/things I'd really be interested in: - As you do a lot of FOH work: How do you mic up a drum kit in a live setting? What can the drummer do setup wise to make the kit sound better? (Muffling, cymbal height etc)? How can I get a good sound with "underheads" to make the setup cleaner visually and also quicker at changeover? - How do you mix a drum cover if you don't have a drumless track? Editing to avoid flaming for kick and snare? Do you mix the drums like you normally would and just turn them up, or are they more aggressive to make them pop compared to the backing track?

Chris, I’m a huge fan of your work! Both as a drummer and studio engineer. You’re videos have been extremely helpful to me as I’ve been learning how to record/mix drums! One question that I have is, how would you approach mixing a live recorded kit that didn’t have overhead mics? Would you still approach it like you did in this video or would you maybe not gate the toms as hard to allow cymbal bleed through?

Hey, good question. Yes, I would probably just not gate the snare and toms, and let all that bleed come through to fill out some of the cymbal sound. Hope that helps!

Your drum mix is crazy good.. Im impressed that no samples were used. But that excessive amount of low end on your voiceover mic... meh. 4.3 out of 5 for the mic eq 😉
