Spent past 15 years learning mixing and hit a brick wall then heard Andrew bragging about how good he was 😄 at teaching. I thought ok if he thinks he's that good let's test it. I tried the first day and I could see the depth he was going to take me to. So glad there's a guy that's worthy of how good he says he is. This is incredibly deep and he has probably forgotten more than I know. Be warned there's No BS with Andrew, he's a machine when he teaches. Get ready to learn so much! Thankyou Andrew for being the real deal.

Andrew's course is literally one of the best things that has happened to my music. He teaches you EVERYTHING, from every single nuance in most used plugins and tools, to studio set up, every single processor, microphones, etc. He goes through every single topic you need to know to have a professional sound and some stuff you don't even know how important it is until you learn it. He does this in the most detailed way, going through every single nuance, and application. Most importantly he teaches you how to hear, what to listen for to make an informed and purposeful decision, he takes you by the hand and shows you what it actually means to mix. He is a freaking genius, his scientific approach to mixing is so smart. I've never gone though a 2.5 hour class and at the end be sad that its ending, every single class you will learn SOOOO much with real examples and great detailed explanations that just make sense. Stop wasting countless hours "learning" from clickbait videos from people that tell you that some plugin sound so good when they don't even level out the output lmao. Its insane how much you will learn from this course, I'm still going through it and every single week I keep learning insane amounts of valuable aplicable knowledge. It's a no brainer, it's worth every damn penny and the best thing is that it's supper affordable for the amount of value he gives. You wont regret it

I am a current student and will finish in mid-September. We meet on Tues and Fridays at 12:55 PST and I was asked to write a review of the course so far. I have to say, it’s some of the best time I’ve ever spent. Although I've only been mixing for a few years, I wish I'd started here and not wasted so much time searching for the "needle in the haystack." What Andrew does that takes him above 95% of videos, tutorials, and books on the market, is that he teaches the art of critical thinking. You can tell he really cares about the craft of audio mixing (and every other aspect of audio). It’s more than copying a template or following what a famous engineer says/does. I’m properly training my ear while also learning how to think about different concepts, plugins, processors, mics, etc. I am confident that by the end of the course, after much practice, the lessons I've learned will become permanent in every production I work on. If you are really serious about it, I would strongly consider taking his course for the fraction of most university classes of the same level.

I'm also participating the course that finish mid September, in the group that have lectures Tuesday and Friday. Andrew asked me to share my thoughts about the course over here. Well... it's hard to give feedback for the course with few words. I was always good especially when working live with the sound, but the course helped me to improve myself even further. It filled the gaps in my knowledge so now there is no more "shots in the dark". Now I can not just identify that there is a problem or an area that need improvement, but I can identify exactly what is wrong and I have the knowledge to change it and achieve the result I want. So personal advice - just give it a go. Get a free class and see what is like, I don't think you will not enroll after that. I read A LOT on the topic and yet for the past several months I have learned more than last 15 years and even more important - now i know how to implement all of that in my sound... I had expectations about the course... well - it surpassed those and Its not finished yet :) So Thank You Andrew, it's been amazing journey so far!

The course absolutely IS a game changer. AZ doesn't teach recipes, he teaches the method. I'm about 13 years into part-time music mixing/engineering etc. and I now see/hear/approach mixing in a completely new and exhilerating way, I've experienced the power of AZ's tools in my current mixing work, and it keeps getting stronger. I cannot recommend this course enough, it's a bargain for the amount of knowledge/wisdom it equips you with. Additionally, AZ's teaching style/approach is inspiring. I've taught guitar for +15 years and sharing knowledge is a passion of mine. AZ's ability to get you from A -> B -> C ->->-> Z (hehe) is masterful. Basically, if you can, take this course.

I am a current AZ student, will be finishing the course in Sept (2021). It's a great course, no frills... no 'artistic flare' like using weird words to describe sound, no 'audio magic,' everything is scientifically defined. I knew plenty about music production before taking AZ's course, this really filled in the gaps i was missing on the engineering / mixing side. If you feel like there are gaps in your knowledge, or maybe things are fuzzy because there are so many contradicting 'experts' out there giving info which doesn't match the next expert... Skip all of that, sign up for AZ's course, and thank him and yourself after.

I found myself not feeling that they give me something extra other than just the other pair. If if you understand what just any other pair gives you then you will understand what I mean. I don't think monitors themselves give you to much. If you have deep understanding of limitations of monitors then you will get most of them. I setup this pair in very unusual way for specific reasons. btw we have the studio setup topic at the course during the first month of the course which goes in parallel with mixing and mastering topics. It's a deep topic on all BS related studio acoustics and monitors and how to use all of it in the way when it really starts working.

Thanks for the introduction to your course, Andrew. I'm upgrading my mixing room and once I have some time I will be considering checking out your course - I like your approach (why are you doing this or that?), but I have a question. You talk about subtle nuances (e.g. regarding classic compressors) and I love the idea of what you say, but there is some good advice often repeated, which reflects the Pareto principle: There are only a small number of basic things (rather than subtleties) that make almost all the difference to achieving a good mix and beginners should concentrate on getting these right. (How do we overcome the 'but basics are boring' problem?). I am guessing that the answer concerns your point about critical listening skills.
@AndrewZeleno13 жыл бұрын
First of all your question can be answered only if too many things should be taken in consideration. For example, it depends on what you mean by basic principles. As you mentioned compressors for me basic principle is attack of a compressor passes the transient pretty untouched. But what if the next note goes fast and the compressor is on its way to the no compression position? Residual compression? Majority don't even understand this principle. Instead they go like "This famous mixer like this compressor on a kick. Let's buy the plugin". They don't even understand that plugin in not a copy of that compressor because it doesn't have dynamic saturation emulation. etc etc. So you put it like I offer subtle nuances instead of basic principles. NO. I offer both and basic principles in advanced understanding to filter mistakes and filtering the commercial hype first of all. Also, Understanding basic principles come from understanding subtle nuances. It's like today you think you know everything but in two years you realize you didn't understand those principles. Because the more subtle nuances you know the more you realize you didn't know even basic principles. Also understanding and applying things are different things. For example: I taught hundreds of students over the last 8 years. And what I noticed almost every student thinks they know basic principles but it turns out they don't. When I check their homeworks a lot of people make the most simple mistakes which just kill their mixes. Audio world is like that. It seems like they understood things but not really. For example I saw how people discuss some microphone comparison and half of commenters say mic A is brighter, and other half that is Mic B is brighter. If all these people take your suggestion and "concentrate on getting these basic right" they will never be able to truly understand even basic principles, even hearing what's really brighter. Because they simply mix up high presence and low presence (upper mid and proximity effect), volume difference and how Flatcher-Munson curve affects, more emphasized sibilants lead to brighter feel but if there is no sibilants the mic can be actually darker etc.

@@AndrewZeleno1 Thanks Andrew, I think that makes sense. 👍I think I absolutely agree with your point that the basics are fundamental for a reason and it's too easy to think we understand them, when in fact we really don't!

I'm not a pro, just a hobbyist. If there is one thing that I have learned after many years it's this. Stay the fuck away from 0db on your master bus.The highest peak maybe occurring once at -1db. The rest of the time -2db and below. And if it's going for "Mastering" -6db and below.
@AndrewZeleno13 жыл бұрын
It's the standard guideline not to go above the clipping point. It will not make any difference to the mix quality. It's just like "just don't go about 0dbFS"

I try to only use compression when I have a reason to use compression, in fact I regularly double check any compression through the mixing process to make sure it's really required. If I do NOT hear any difference when I turn the compression off I simply remove it.

I'm not supposed to have my own work as songs as my job was broadcasting and later teaching. But you can check these song examples from above.
