How do you approach vision in a tracks production or mixing? Let me know below!
@Czyszy Жыл бұрын
My way to get it right is to produce and mix the track during the composition process. That's how I made my recent prog albums.

A lot of my approach comes down to listening over and over and things popping in my head, like, “it would sound cool if I did such-and-such here.”

Enjoying hearing the rationale for the mixing decisions. Really appreciate the choice of genre! As for vision, it is something I frequently overlook (by getting bogged down in simply making tracks sound better). I typically use a reference track so that may provide some small compensation.

Vision of a song is super important form the mixing side of things as is the writing of it too obviously . Im going to say that the mixing/mastering is such a crucial part of the overall emphasis, felling,vibe ect. Glad you brought this up its a good idea to spend a great amount of time discussing the depths and dimensions of where instruments should sit in the mix. Its definitely the core to a amazing musical production. Great work guys thanks.

Please can someone point me to a resource further explaining the spatial effects that Marc mentions in the video 8:44 & 16:00 (how to pan instrumentation and effects separately)? Thanks!
@arodalan3961 Жыл бұрын
He panned the full dry guitar signal to the left and then panned the full wet reverb all the way to the right. Then he did the opposite for the keys/synth.
@EJCAudio Жыл бұрын
You send your channel to an aux bus (which is conventional for reverbs anyway), then pan the channel one way, and pan the aux return the other way. Gives a lot of space in the centre without neglecting one side or the other.

Been waiting on this. Thanks Marc. This is a great sounding mix. Congrats on the API sidecar. ITB and OTB do have a different sound. OTB is just rounder and smoother but all the transients are still there. I will say this though, in just a few years, it sounds like the gap between ITB and OTB is getting narrower and narrower.

Great Vid as ever. It makes me think of the access analog website. Has PLAP done a review of their service? (where you send audio to analog gear over the internet and it comes back with interest). Also I hope the band comes to the UK soon!

Hashtag "home recording", huh?? 🤭😉 The recording, the musicianship, the gear used, its prices and the unobtanium factor are pretty much a million miles from home recording, I'd say. Honestly, and pls don't get offended, I always liked the Make Mine Music episodes far more than all the other good content on this channel - but... I liked them far better when there was a little less acting and a little less plugin & gear promo. Would be too bad if Marc, too, went "the youtuber way". For my taste and IMHO, of course. ☮☯️
@EJCAudio Жыл бұрын
The musicianship is key. Bass & Keys are direct, and the guitar is 1 mic on an amp. Recording Revolution has some great info on recording in home studios - and all the analogue toys here have been emulated; so you can certainly get "close" for some-but-not-thousands-of-dollars
@marcdanielnelson317 Жыл бұрын
Defiantly not understanding your statement, but without the context can maybe see how you arrived to that conclusion. This was an ask video. Using my gear in a mix I did previous to the video. I come on this channel about once a month to talk about things I do day to day but try to stay in the box when I can. This was a mix breakdown of the mix I did hybrid, which in turn will take you into what gear I use. If you see, there is no promo links or any of the garbage that sends you somewhere to buy what I’m talking about. In fact, I am 100 percent against doing any of that. If I am using or talking about a piece of gear with a company. It is 100 Percent because I use it daily and bought it for myself. Please remember I do many many videos here completely ITB. This was a special request of going through a mix. No acting here, and remember… happy mixing ❤
