Excellent video. Really goes to show how much of an impact parallel compression makes when mixing live drums as well as having them tuned well. Having something sounding good going in means only something better can come out in the final production. Subbed!

The kick drum and the snare sound clean because they were recorded with gate or because they have been sampled? One of the doubts that I have mixing is adding noise gates to the snares and kick microphones...

Ok, here is a video that needs to be covered. How do sound engineers stay healthy? Most sound engineers I know get no exercise because they sit in front of a computer all day. I think that is a serious topic for serious engineers. I do P90x in my studio.

Can somebody explain something to me? If you look closely at the overheads waveform, you can see that it is not symetrical at all vertically... it seems shifted on the positive side... is this DC offset?? or due to a tube preamp or something?
@lagiator11 жыл бұрын
I guess, if you listen for example to Green Day's latest album that CLA mixed, you'll hear a low mid scoop on the drums. I guess 800Hz is what he cuts and that's why Dave said that.

look through his videos. he has videos on mix bus and parallel compression. create an Aux. and say set the input to bus 1-2. then on all your drum tracks set the Output to buss 1-2 and then Solo Safe the aux. if your not sure how to do that then you don't have to. but once you have all your drums going to an aux and playing through it throw a compressor on there and just bring up a preset of mix buss for drums and play around with there. try some eq. & mess around. let your ears be the judge.

@lagiator11 жыл бұрын
Be sure the drummer is playing solidly and with great dynamics.80% of the sound will come from the source. Experiment with placements to get a good balance. I'd start with 1st on kick & 2nd as overhead looking directly to the snare.EQ the kick mic normally. Then the OH mic. Think as the higher part of the spectrum as OH sounds and the lower one as shell bottom end. Don't boost the low end much as thing will get muddy. Again, if you want to get a good sound like that the performance must be good.
