Sean , on the Bus Compression in this tutorial , you use the SSL. Just wondering if you have heard of the BUSTER SE by Analog Obsession. It’s a free Bus Comp. I’m not able to get the SSL one at the moment , but it seems that Analog Obsessions comp has similar parameters to the SSL. Just wondering if you have ever messed with it a little. Thanks amigo. Stay up brother ! I jam you here in Austin Tx always bro ! “Come Alive!” 😎

I’m very new to recording rap vocals. I record about -12 db, I cut out 70 and under do a bit more EQ stuff, use a de-esser, compression, sometimes Valhalla on a send, sometimes double vocals and pan the ad-libs, but have no clue about mastering. What even is it? Do I use a limiter? Should I use saturation?

@JayMadeelrubio3 ай бұрын
Sean what about if you use a traditional maximizer on stereo out but not as aggresive with the gain reduction? Will this way work?
@SeanDivine3 ай бұрын
Ultimately, depends on the maximizer (some are more transparent than others). Generally speaking, yes, if the gain reduction is minimal should be fine.

Sean, what plug-ins did you use while recording your vocals, and what levels did you have them set to... thanks. God bless you

I tracked with the vocal chain in this video, nothing else. There was also some light hardware compression on the way in. I generally keep mic input levels around -25 lufs integrated (-18 peak).

This is intended just for creating a commercial level mix (playing in the car, sharing with friends, etc). If you’re sending to an outside mastering engineer, take off the plugins on the stereo bus and turn down the master output to provide some headroom.

Which one do you use?
@justinsollenne47872 ай бұрын
3 questions: One, is there any other plugin I could use that isn't the Waves MutltiMaximizer, but has similar features? I use Logic, any stock plugins that are similar? I also have Slate Digital, Antares, and Softube...I'll buy Waves soon enough lol Second, is this song considered mastered to you? It sounded mastered to me, but would you consider that just a mix? Would you bounce that out for a separate mastering session? Third, when mixing/mastering a 2-track beat, SHOULD ONE NEVER USE A LIMITER on the stereo output for a 2-track production, at least not a pure one, or one that can't do individual band frequencies? Is that MultiMaximizer not a limiter? What is that plugin exactly? Just wanna be clear here...thanks for the video!
@SeanDivine2 ай бұрын
You could try the Multipressor in Logic. It's just a multiband compressor (not a limiter). I would suggest keeping ratios / attenuation very low to keep the effect from wrecking your dynamics. You can definitely use a standard limiter. It's just generally not going to be as transparent in the low end or have as much control as we have in this case.

@SeanDivine3 ай бұрын
If the beat is already at commercial loudness, set the ceiling to -1 and leave the threshold alone. If you need to bring the overall level up with your vocals, pull down the threshold lightly as needed and keep the gain reduction to a minimum!

I do hear it from 5 or even 7 feet slightly with mine, it"s like a white noise, and level of hiss arises with rising volume control at the back, and drops with lower volume. Nothing connected to speaker. Could you be so kind to check, does your pair hisses to?

No. I can hear a very, very faint white noise but only if I put my ear right up to it. Sounds like yours could be defective or something hooked up is causing it.
