Ouch, those screams are painful. My throat hurts just listening to this. Great tips though, going to apply them immediately. Thanks!

Not my favorite style of vocals - but super interesting lesson. I guessed at the beginning that we'd be seeing a comp, saturator, and a multi-band comp for de-essing. I didn't see the MicroShift or the Pultec coming though . Those were a cool addition. I always look forward to your videos. Another great one. Thanks.

Thanks mate. Microshift is definitely a secret weapon on vocals when used right! And pultec always adds some nice sparkle when needed! Every now and then I do enjoy some heavier tunes and screams, it’s good to mix things up! But most of the time it’s more melodic vocals that I enjoy listening to :)

Sounds great, I want to learn to process vocals like this, might have to pick up a couple of those plugins you're using. Seen a ton of people using decapitator

Soundtoys plugins are all over my mixes! They are older plugins now, but don’t fix it if it ain’t broke right?!

Decapitator is the king on this type of vocals , but this need parallel compresión and more distortion myop. Amazing video!
@spinlightstudios Жыл бұрын
You can always go harder if needed 👊🏻 I think it’s distorted enough personally, I think a better performance would enhance it and proper double tracking! This is a really old session and he was pretty young, still figuring it all out.

Were the vocals recorded with an SM7B? I think the eq settings need to be quite different if you use a condenser mic like an NT1-A or such.
@spinlightstudios Жыл бұрын
No I don’t think so, I didnt own a SM7B back when I recorded this (2011) quite possibly tracked with an AKG 820 perception tube mic, which was my go to vocal mic back then. I think it’s depends on the voice a lot too. EQ always changes depending on the source and the mic choice

When you send your tracks to bits groups, do you always keep the send level at 0.0 and then adjust the level of it on the send itself?
@spinlightstudios10 ай бұрын
No, just sometimes. It depends if I plan on doing any automation with it or just leave it static.
