The actual ground work and mindset of track selection, track order, the ultimate raw decision making process including trial and errors, testing etc.. how ever long, id definitely watch it.

A tip that really helped me, especially with techno: Every 4 BEATS a new BAR begins. Every 4 BARS a new PHRASE begins. If you start the new track at the BEGINNING of the other track's phrase (i.e. after 4 bars) the transitions will sound much smoother. You not only have the beats of the tracks aligned but also their structure. This can lead to some really nice transitions, since drastic changes in the music tend to happen every 4 bars - so if there is a break in Track A (e.g. kicks are gone) then the drop of Track B (e.g. kicks come in) is aligned with that change.

@@aidanpalmer9593 depends on the track. there is polyrythmic techno as well, means a phrase would be 24 beats, or maybe 20. and it depends on the arrangement of the track too. some artists like to throw in hihats randomely or let the break start 1 bar later than the typical 16 bars.

I’m a Dj and also a techno producer and in my humble opinion electronic music is made to change every 8 bar loops within intro , verse , brake down , drop , verse and outro. As Dj I never mix during the climax ( brake down , drop or even last verse) . I Always mix on the outro, putting the last 8-16 bars of the intro of incoming track right before the first verse and mix it with the last 8 bars of the last verse of the track that’s been played just to have a neat and clean transition. In this video he mixes right on the drop and the song is still alive full of energy and after he changes low ends with the verse of the incoming track with the full of energy ending drop&verse and the new track that’s coming sounds really weird . I’ve learnt how to mix techno after watching pro DJs mixing and if you’re only Dj, please always count 32 beats before hitting the play button of the incoming track , and try to mix the new track right before the outro of the tracking that’s ending . techno music is not just change track by track , techno is to travel and take the crowd into a trip, with soft transitions , also last thing and probably most important, always mix in key , I liked how he teaches the effects and different things you can do with color fx .
@B166ER2K64 жыл бұрын
This was nothing more than a showcase of potential transition techniques. That's all.

Your sets and mixing style sounds very boring and typical, to be expected and non creative. Where is the soul in that? Sounds robotic. Just the simple basics. Techno is made for mixing 3-4 tracks at once. And mixing some samples and fx in or bassline or w e in with a build up makes it unique and creative and can show true talent of its phrased right and on cue and in key with same energy. Make it sound like one. That takes raw talent and soul.
@Invadia.official4 жыл бұрын
@@MB-sq2xv with all respect techno and any music is not made to mix 3 or 4 tracks at the same time , check Cristian Varela sets, there is not point of having 3 channels up and feeling you are the best dj ever, i am not the best Dj or producer but at least I make my own music and I have enough creativity to finish tracks, if I wanted to make a unique mix I would play Ableton live session instead mixing 3 tracks at the same time putting effects on top, also anybody can be Dj now-days, but make good music and turn a 8 bar loop into a full track is other thing, I rather be creative making music than mixing others people tracks in a Dj set. as I said before I'm not the best Dj but I know how to make a party and I've played in some clubs without receiving tomatoes in my face. Btw thanks for watching my video. cheers.
@ricogoudsblom59238 ай бұрын
Mixing in key is the most boring way to mix, let it go!! You describe mixing as some sort of formula that you repeate over and over again, again boring! Learn to play a set where you mix each track in a different way. If 2 tracks have a completely different key doesn't mean you can't mix them, they just need a different aproach... If you want more energy from your mixes, keep them shorter and mix in the next track faster... If you need the crowd to breath a little, make long mixes. The key-word is variation here!! Don't rely on the fx, the fx are a bonus. If you play out not every venue has a fancy pioneer-mixer... There could be an old dateq-mixer without fx. Then it's up to your skills to mix a decent set with enough variation to keep it interesting...

How come you’re barely mixing with the high and mid EQ’s? Basically just switching out the lows. Would be cool to see a more in depth mix with not so many effects rather more EQ mixing.
@markgordon54624 жыл бұрын
Depending on the elements of each track, techno tracks are quite similar in that you can stack one on top of another without them fighting for headroom, which is why DJ James ended up not using so much Mid and High EQ, but its also down to preference! If you prefer to use the whole EQ strip then that's awesome too! I just wanted to comment and hopefully help answer your question 😁🙏🏻
@domdraper32214 жыл бұрын
No need to use the higher parts of the eq . The kicks always fight with each other for the space and it sounds crap. That’s why it’s good to swap the kicks out. As long as you mix in key, the mix will sound great as long as you controll the low end.
@ArcadianGenesis4 жыл бұрын
I usually mix the high and mid EQs as well, but I'm mostly mixing trance and melodic techno.
@prashanth3484 жыл бұрын
I feel sometime the kick's low mids are spread in mid region of the mix. Each track is produced differently, it's the trained ears which distinguishes whether we have to Eq the appropriate signal in-order to have a better mix.

Few reasons for this, sometimes tracks are not actually the BPM that the software reads it as, although this is usually not too common. The most likely reason is that CDJs and controllers only show the BPM to 1 decimal point - so even if it says 138.0 on both tracks, the BPMs are probably not exactly equal. For example one track might be 138.00 and the other is actually 138.09, but both get read as 138.0, which means the second track is going to be slightly faster and go off beat. Unfortunately paying attention and jogging the wheel/slightly adjusting the BPM when the beats go off is the only solution to correct this, unless you’re using sync. Adjusting the BPM fader to +6 rather than +10 or wide will make it easier to adjust the BPMs more accurately, since if you’ve got it on wide a slight nudge will be a much larger BPM increase/decrease because of the scale.

Can someone explain me why the person is using the jog wheel so many times when the beat shows that it is matched on the screen on my ddj-400 if i time the next song right i dont even have to touch it or when i match the beat i don't get it am i doing something wrong?
@pablodiazdemera80564 жыл бұрын
The grid of some records are not correctly placed sometimes, mabye Thats why he is constantly correcting with the jog, anyways The sound quality of This pioneer xz is much higher and more precise than your ddj-400 and you can apreciate better all The incorrections on your mix.

@@bObsy. Aight so as you have the tracks running they might go out of sync. In rekordbox this means that the beat indicators are no longer aligned. This can lead to the kicks/mids to sound out of sync. You can then use the jogwheels to make microadjustments to re-align the beats of the two tracks. This can also happen if the BPMs are off by just 0.01 (e.g. 127.0 vs. 127.1BPM) - at some point the tracks will be ever so slightly out of sync, thus needing re-adjustment. If you use beat sync it doesn't really matter. If you are always on beat then you're a liar. Enjoy mixing! The DDJ-400 is a sick controller :)
@andreksjour2 жыл бұрын
You are not doing something wrong, this person likes to play with the jog. Use sync if you are playing for a crowd. Make sure you beatgrid manually all your tracks, against a single specific track. That way you don't even have to touch the jog wheel at all. It was hard to watch this guy keep messing with the beats.

a little loose on phasing, and almost no eq work, just lows. avoided beat jump and performance pad loops, for some reason, even though they would have made things easier . 7/10

I agree the pads make it way eaiser and more fun to play with too.

isn't techno ideal for 3 deck mixing?
@RaquelFoster4 жыл бұрын
Yeah... And the only good reason to get an XDJ-XZ instead of an RX2 is because you can plug a 3rd deck into it...
@TwStTempo4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is, but that takes a lot more skill to chop elements and keep everything synced up, whilst not sounding overly cluttered. 95% of techno DJs will just transition from one track to the next because they’re too lazy or just not skilled enough to incorporate more dynamic mixing.

It is Techno. Techno is basically the Blues of electronic music. Techno has so many different sounds like Industrial, Dark, Ambient, Dub, Minimal, Tech House(Tech stands for Techno, so that means that it’s Techno House), and do many different genres in between and we still say it’s Techno. Techno is Techno, its always evolving and changing. We still call early Techno from the 80’s, Techno even though it’s sound is a lot like old school Kraut Rock and Electro. Techno was very different in the 90’s as well, and we call that Techno. I would call the track you are talking about, Tech House which is indeed a form of Techno.

True, hardly techno but the point of the video is demonstrate mixing techniques. So what would be the point of leaving the track running for 3 minutes?

The bpms are low, not sure why and that’s why it sounds like house. But I also feel it’s part of the demonstration
