Hi Jim and Greg, thanks a lot for the shoutout, I'm really excited what you have for me/us 😆 Scorpions - first surprise ... this must be from a compilation tape. Originally of the album In Trance. Since I have all Scorpions albums until 86, I surely know this song and like it. I like the 70s Scorpions better than the 80s, Taken by force and Animal Magnetism being my favourite ones. You mentioned their success abroad from Germany - they headlined festivals in the US in the 80s and the story goes, that Still Loving You sold more than a million copies only of the single and the year after there was a drastic increase in the birth rate 🤣 RUDOLF 👍Schenker founded the band, Michael was member 69-73, 78-79, solo guitar back then was Uli Jon Roth, later on Mathias Jabs Dust - I've got their first LP, Suicide is from their 2nd and last and I've never heard it. I like the rough sound and the energy of this song. When I bought my LP back in the 80s, I didn't know any of the names. Have you ever heard of HSAS ? The A stands for Aaronson and when I did some research, I found out he was of Dust. Budgie - I had known this name for years and somewhere on any cassette back in the 70s was 1 song. I also knew that Metallica had covered them. But actually I rediscovered them on Nicknlex, and I bought a compilation. I'm glad you didn't play my favourite song, which is gonna be in a future mixtape. Musically they are really good, I can imagine, not everybody liked the voice and that's why they were not so successful. UFO - Jiiiim 😵💫 the only german "piece" in UFO is Michael Schenker... the others all are british 😆Rock Bottom is among my 3 mostplayed UFO songs, and I can't play it to death. After UFO's spacerock of the first 2 albums, Phenomenon, the first with Michael was a big surprise and success. Rock Bottom and Doctor, Doctor are songs that every musicfan should know. Especially Iron Maiden fans, since they play Doctor, Doctor as intro at each single concert since I don't know when. Fun fact: the other day I discovered a live in a tv studio video of Rock Bottom with quite different lyrics 🤣 Cactus - same as Budgie there's somewhere 1 song on an antique cassette, probably wasn't good enough back then to make me buy an album. I think after these 5 songs I can say you like songs with great riffs 🤘 Captain Beyond - finally the first band I don't know. good song, typically 70s with some surprises Judas Priest - Tyrant live 🤣 part of my first "live songs of the 70s" mixtape Rick Stevers - Rick who 😆 can't remember ever heard this name. According to Wiki he was the drummer of Frijid Pink ... part of my very first mixtape 🤘 the song also was on an Frijid Pink album Back Jack - also new to me, nice intro , just read they're from Missouri. I like this song, but is the whole album good ? Zig Zag - another new name ... sound reminds me a bit of Orange Goblin . That's music I can hear 2 or 3 songs of, but then it's enough. So this was fun, mixing world known bands as Scorpions and Judas Priest with "completely unknown" ones as Captain Beyond, Back Jack and Zig Zag I enjoyed it very much and hope to bring joy to the channel with my next ones 🤘🤘

I glad you enjoyed it Rudy!!

So….. I am officially an idiot. Yes, the band was Frijid Pink, the link that Greg sent me was to a channel called Rick Stevers and I messed up thinking that was the artist. It kind of was though! Otherwise, another brilliant mixtape to add the list of brilliant mixtapes! Glad you enjoyed it Rudi!

@@JimNewstead Errare humanum est! I think it's more "strange" that you thought UFO is german just because of Michael Schenker

@@rudolfbecker4313 Looking forward to any Budgie. let me guess - Breadfan? Nude Disintegrating Parachute Woman? Napoleon Bona Part 1 and 2? They always did have great titles. Captain Beyond (great name for a band) are worth seeking out further though the discography is very limited.

I know Tyrant and I knew Crash Course from the Metallica cover, but the rest of these are new to me. Pretty good mix though, more hits than misses. Nice one, Greg!

They all just flowed together quite nicely didn’t they 😊 also Sailor is Frajid Pink LOL 😂 don’t quote me on spelling but they’re still active out of Detroit MI!

Hahaha!!!! I think that’s the funniest mistake I’ve made so far on KZbin! I thought the link to the music was the bands/artists name, but it was the channel name. Oops!!! Frijid Pink it is!!! Lols 🤣 Otherwise, flipping brilliant mix, thanks so much!!!

My introduction to Budgie was listening to Breadfan on repeat shortly after it was released, us headbanging teens LOVED it. Metallica's cover is OK but the OG version is still the best. Loved all those early Budgie albums in the 70's. The best vesrion of Rock Bottom is definitely the live version on Strangers in the Night. Arguably Shenker's tempestuous high point with the band.

Well, I enjoyed the rather obscure Dust more than I did the rather successful Scorpions. Not entirely sure why. The very Welsh Budgie are always worth a play and did I hear you suggest that UFO were German? Phil Mogg and pals won't be happy with that even if they did briefly though irregularly have a German guitarist. Cactus sound very much American and Captain Beyond are one of these coulda/shoulda bands - see the Wikipedia entry to find out why not. Judas Priest are a band who I think would have disappeared by the late 70s were it not for NWoBHM which gave them a new lease of life which continues to this day. The last 3 tracks I have never heard of and weren't bad though weren't brilliant. I still think the Scorpion's track was the disappointing one but the rest did sound very much of their time. The hard and heavy side of rock has moved on a good deal since then.

Apparently I’m an idiot. There is no track or album by an artist called Rick Stevers, but there is by a band called Frijid Pink. I think he was the drummer for them, according to Rudi, and somehow my KZbin links were all over the place and I got it horribly wrong! Many lols here this morning 🤣😬🙄

Hi Jim, Greg and Rudi, I grew up with all sorts of rock music and I loved the hard version of it as well as psychedelic and progressive. Good old Scorpions. Don’t know this song but they’ve made so many.😅. Never heard of Dust. Very straight forward hard rock but nice intermezzo. Budgie, I know only a few songs by them. First heard about them in the bbc documentary Metal Britannia. Proto metal band. Ufo. Of course I know them only not this song; at least, I can’t remember it. It’s so long ago 👨🏼🦳. Only know that this band existed. Don’t like the singer’s voice at all so I skip this song. Never heard of Captain beyond. Song fits perfectly in that era. Nice. I never was a Judas Priest fan. Again the singer’s voice. 😣 Rick Stevers; never heard of him too. At least he has a great voice. Not real hard rock. Good song. Back Jack. Again, never heard of them. No, this song won’t stay in my memory. His voice has suffered a lot I hear. Pity but it’s still a quite good song. Overall great mix tape Greg, love it.

Nice, on theme mixtape. For me The Scorpians and The Zig Zags were the weakest aspects and Dust was my favourite of the lot. I never got into Priest when I was younger, bad reaction to Rob's vocals. But I've been listenning to more recently and like a lot of their work.

I think Halford's voice is an either like or don't like and that might decide if you like a band or not. I think Geddy Lee and Steve Perry of Journey are in the same category. If you don't like it, you don't listen to it. Myself not being the greatest fan of Rob's voice I absolutely love the twin guitar sound of Priest. And nowadays we have Love Bites, who do it perfectly ... also with an ... ok singer 😆 As I wrote that I know all Scorpions albums til 86, there were many songs that could have been chosen, I guess Greg had a reason to pick In Trance🤔

@@rudolfbecker4313 Yes he one of several bands I just bounced off hard when I first heard them, Megadeath are the same. Musically I love it, but I just can't listen to Dave.

I’m a bit like you with Priest… I had a flirtation with Defenders Of The Faith - I think I owned it on tape but has been gone many years! I know a couple of songs here and there, but never felt I needed to explore more at that age…. And then my tastes changed and only recently (last 10 years) that I’ve come back to try and find more of these older bands that I missed. I think I’ll end up done a Judas Priest deep dive at some point!

@@jimofthenorth8090 Dave is not the best singer, but the music, especially of the 80s and early 90s albums are simply too good not to listen to it. On the other hand he has had lots of great songs on the last 3 albums, where as Metallica has become soo boring. My no 1 no-go-singer in the metal or rock genre is Brian Johnson .. I like Back In Black but thereafter I bought For Those About To Rock and sold it after 2 or 3 times listening, the first ever LP I sold. To me his voice is as painful as visiting a dentist 🤣

@rudolfbecker4313 strange isn't it that I've never had an issue listening to AC/DC. Radiohead are another that I've never been able to get past the vocals, much to the disappointment of my Radiohead loving wife.
