Once you ride an Eighties to early Nineties Miyata, you will realize what great bikes these STILL are. Miyata was unarguably the best mass-produced bike brand of its time. Their low end bikes were everyone else's mid-to-high end bikes. I've owned 3 TerraRunners of various vintages, a 1986 model 90, a model 310 and my current ride is a 1984 model 710. I buy every Miyata I can find that isn't a total wreck.......or completely out of my price range.......although I keep looking for that 1000LT in my size. Thanks for the vid.

I rescue every old Miyata I can get my hands on. They are simply some of the best steel frame bikes around.

I've had my '81 Miyata 1000 touring bike since 1998. I have repainted it twice with new decals, switched to 700c wheels, 7 speed freehub, bar end Shimano shifters, infinite adjustable seat post, cartridge bottom bracket - the only thing not upgraded are the handlebars! Still love it, rides like a dream.

Gitane was up there too, imo. I purchased ( kinda. I worked it off under apprenticeship to the lead mechanic at my LBS ) a new Gitane Professionnel in 1985 ( the same year as its release date ) and refuse to let it go. It's been a faithful old steed and is like a friend to me.

Picked up an ‘88 712 in peacock/black and it could pass for NOS. It’s such a beautiful bike aesthetically and mechanically. I’ve put around 100 miles on it. It’s fantastic. Now I want the red and white one 😊

Great to see that vintage video. I regrettably sold 3 of my Miyata's but held on to my 1980 Team. I bought it from the original owner and it is still in the same condition it was when he purchased it. I have other projects going on at the moment but plan to refurbish and start riding it. Have a video about it on my channel.

Miyata still exists. They just stopped exportation outside of japan under the name Miyata, and sold the rights to the name outside of japan to Koga. For their high end bikes sold out of japan they are called Merida.

I bought a FLAWLESS Miyata 10 speed from the local thrift store here in New Orleans for 30.00 yesterday. I can definitely tell it was made in the 80s with it’s all metal pedals with yellow reflectors on the inside and the style of brakes that’s on it. Really Primitive lookin Shimano brakes lol. ... but from EVERYTHING I have googled, I can’t find this EXACT ten speed. The only other Miyata sticker on the bike is one that says “Sport 10” on top frame bar in front on each side by upper neck.By the looks of all of these comments looks like hardly anyone has been on here in a really long time. Whoever looks on here After I posted this and you have any ideas what I have let me know please. Thanks

Is the video available in a higher resolution? It was cool watching the old style graphics. I have a 1989 Miyata 1000. Don't you hate it when a company offers a 'lifetime' guarantee and then quickly goes out of business, just before any claims come in? The frames were excellent, so they probably would have had no problems anyway. I think Miyata failed because their racing teams did not do race sponsorship correctly, by not having any top racers racing their bikes to prove them in the field
