It’s not the variety of mango in Japan that makes them expensive. It’s the level of care they receive from each stage of growth to harvesting. It’s the same reason American Wagyu isn’t the same as Japanese Wagyu.

Please realise it is the LABOR that goes into the Japanese mangoes which make them so expensive. Miyazaki mango is actually an almost obsolete Florida cultivar called Irwin, which some describe as bland compared to richly flavored varieties. With extreme care, any mango variety can become the next Miyazaki mango.

These are Irvin mango. These Irvin mangoes were modified by a Japanese company to Miyazaki mango. The oroginal Miyazaki mangoes can only be produced by that company, which is the reason for high price.

Nothing special about this variety, it is actually an old commercial variety from Florida called "Irwin" what makes it special in Japan is it cultivated in a special way, only 1 or 2 per plant, in special controlled environment green house, perfect specimens are used as gift fruit which are very expensive. the mango has a pretty red hue, and is mostly fiber free. These have been improved on many times over. much sweeter tastier varieties exist, that are completely fiber free. you could have 20 varieties and all of them have different sub flavors, some with hint of coconut, some pineapple, others are peachy. and so on.
