Gulikit sticks operate at a lower current (160uA) vs traditional alps style (390uA.) (According to Gulikit) Might have something to do with it but this honestly seems like it could be a larger issue than just that.
@Johntriger7 ай бұрын
Strange so maybe its overcurrenting the stick. It was almost like a short somehow is being caused I have put Hal sticks in many devices this is the first I have had trouble with. I unplugged it before it started to smell burnt like my anbernic stick did. Shame it ruined that one as it was unique with a textured top.

@@Johntriger Yeah i'd lean towards a short more than overcurrent. Overcurrent alone it would probably still boot.
@Johntriger7 ай бұрын
I mean if it's pushing 390ua and the stick only needs 160ua that would feel like an overcurrent causing a short inside the stick. It was plugged in long enough to melt the insides of the anbernic Hal stick(assuming the gulikit is similar in power requirements). Since it's just magnets on the inside the resistance is lower. The A30 must just push the full amount and not reduce the power to the stick like most consoles. Either way it doesn't work with Hal sticks which is a bummer and the first thing I feel like people will try if their stick starts to drift and calibration doesnt work. Maybe someone could measure the power going to the stick it could be even greater than 390uA if it's poorly designed. I just wanted to have the extra grippy top that the anbernic has so I'll be taking it apart to see if I can Frankenstein something to a stock alps stick.

Just tried this with mine and got the exact same results. Definitely not just your a30
@JohntrigerАй бұрын
Did you leave it in long enough to smoke it or take it out fast enough to not completely ruin it? Hope you didn't burn yourself I almost did as I didn't expect it to be hot. You can only use normal style sticks the really cheap ones sadly. Kind of a wear item it will need to be changed when it starts to drift and software cant fix it. Wonder if this is widespread to all miyoo a30's Thanks for reporting your findings.

How did you enable the joystick for input in Yoshi's Island? I can't seem to get the analog stick to work as a d-pad in any d-pad game (GBA, SNES, GB and so forth).
@Johntriger2 ай бұрын
Check retroarch settings for input settings. I typically open the retroarch app itself and do the changed and save the config where it will be a global change. You are looking for Settings>Input>Retropad binds>Port 1 Controls>Analog to digital type>set to Left analog That will make the analog act like the dpad in games where dpad is all there is.
@s1th_THWM2 ай бұрын
@Johntriger problem is i did that but it still won't enable my analog stick to be used as a d-pad
@Johntriger2 ай бұрын
Do you have overrides enabled for Yoshi Island or snes itself, maybe? Open Retro arch settings when you have it open and see if the input is set correctly for the joystick as described in the previous message. Also, does it work anywhere? Could have a bad joystick. This console is weird and doesn't work with any hal effect sticks. Check with the joystick calibration app/setting

@@Johntriger it worked on n64 or any other console that has analog sticks. It just did not work with d-pad only games. But I figured it out. I used mGBA as GBA core. Setting it to left or right did not work. On gpSP setting it to left did not work. But setting it to right did work for some reason haha

This is a massive disappointment. I sell thumbsticks for another device and just ordered an A30. The first thing I was going to do was replace it with the GulliKit stick so I could swap the tops to my own. Really hoping this is something that has been fixed or can be fixed in a firmware update by the time I get mine.
@Johntriger5 ай бұрын
I dont want to tell you to ruin a stick but, if you have a spare Hal stick give it a shot if you can.If it's not going to work it should not turn on when you install the Hal Stick. It gets so hot the insides melt if you leave it plugged in for 30seconds to a minute attempting to boot. If you take it out fast enough it probably will still work. Would be great if just my a30 is defective but it's probably all of them. If it works please report back!

How do they get 2600mAh in that battery size. The highest capacity batteries in that size I can see are 1900mAh
@Johntriger5 ай бұрын
Considering it only last about 3 hours on a charge I am not sure that the 2600mah claimed is accurate. Maybe someone with equipment could do a drain test on the battery. It wouldn't be the first time a battery company lied about capacity.
@G.lock.225 ай бұрын
where you get them?
@Johntriger5 ай бұрын
The ones I tried to install? They were just from Amazon GuliKit Hal sticks two pack. But they do not work with the A30, no Hal stick will because of hardware issues with the A30. I recommend a stock switch alps stick or knock off like it if your stick can no longer be calibrated in settings. The A30 is a interesting device that feels like it was shelved for a few years and suddenly released. Almost feels like they designed it before the miyoo mini original version.

@thomasre7276 do you have much experience with custom os for the xu mini? Last I tried, the refresh rate seemed a bit wonky at 68fps or something. Love the feel of the device. Super bright screen.

@@Johntriger I got the xu mini and ran Plum OS. It was a terrible experience and I’m returning it (luckily I bought it from Amazon to test). Maybe I got a bad unit, but the 2nd sd card wouldn’t format, it boot loops when I selected over clock, it stopped charging, etc. I had like 5 different software issues with it when using Plum OS. That said, it felt kinda good in my hands when using it tho.

@@MithosDagon I tend to get these handhelds without any extra SD cards as they tend to not be very good quality, I have lost some save games by a cheap card dying. I tried an experimental Rocknix image a while back, I agree I really like the feel of it just a bit buggy and not sure it will get better for a while since it was not very popular. They Joysticks are up there with my RP2S on how good they are. So I really wanted to enjoy N64 on this thing. Ill have to try again later on. Returning and getting something else would probably be a good idea for you.

@@Johntriger Yeah, I used my own legit memory cards in both slots…tried formatting them to FAT32, exfat, etc before putting it into the second slot…nothing worked. I ended up just using my own 128GB card in slot one. It was usually recommended to use slot 2 for roms since updating PlumOS wipes the card in slot 1. But I thought it would be ok since the GitHub said that was the final version. That said, it wasn’t the SD card 2 that did it for me (and the fact that some of it sticks out), it was a combination of over 5 issues I had using PlumOS. Outside of that, I loved the sticks and even the feel of the device (granted I wish it had WiFi builtin) in my hands. And I have too many devices at them moment…I was just binging on these $20-60 handhelds 😅
