Enjoying all your adventures and have to ask if security an issue. Just watched you Indian Ocean crossing and had to think of pirates.

Piracy definitely is a concern for us, but has only impacted our itinerary on the Indian Ocean and Southern Atlantic crossings. Our pirate protection device is “distance”-we just don’t go where pirates are reported to operate. The Somalia area and the entrance routes to the Suez are very high risk. More recently, pirates have been reported as far south as the Seychelles and as far east as the Maldives. While we would have loved to travel through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea, we instead crossed the southern Indian Ocean via Rodrigues and Reunion and rounded the Cape of Good Hope to reach the Atlantic. It’s a longer run, with more weather risk, but there have been no reports of pirates.
