Dear Sir, They have lived here for past 5 years They have been living here for past five years Is both are similar in meaning?

They are not exaclty similar. The first one is to talk about experience; the completed years. The second is to talk about the fact that they continue to live here. “They have lived here for five years” is to talk about their experience of having lived here for five years. They started to live here five years back and as of now they have completed five years living here. அவர்கள் ஐந்து ஆண்டுகள் வசித்து இருக்கிறார்கள். (Experience) “They have been living here for five years” means that they started living here for five years and they still continue to live here. அவர்கள் ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளாக இங்கு வசித்துக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்கள். (continuity)

“They will have finished the project by tomorrow” is your expectation. “The project will be finished by them by tomorrow” is just a like a promise.
