I see a lot of talk about this being inefficient because of a lack of automatic valve... I would say you can work around that with a manual system... What I do to prevent that on my manual CO2 system is I never truly turn it off when the photo period is done. Co2 does build up overnight, but never in dangerous amounts. I've tested this in my tank + the oxygen levels and I never got readings below the maximum level of oxygen on the test. Plus, you always have a CO2 buildup ready for photosynthesis as soon as the lights turn on, even if you do remember to turn on the system a bit later. It is not perfect, but it does offer you a wider margin of error. Keep in mind that the main factor in this equation that leads to algae blooming is still the light. What that means is that if you do not have enough CO2 built up when the light period starts in a high tech tank, so for example if you were to turn on the CO2 system at the same time as the light, then a lot of the light for the first 1 hour of the period will be used to feed the algae, since there won't be enough CO2 to stimulate photosynthesis enough. By keeping it on overnight but nowhere near full blast, then you allow for a CO2 build-up that can efficiently be used during the next photo period. Evidently, having a lot of plants helps, especially floating plants. Another way to effectively work with a manual system is to perfectly balance the level of CO2 both during the day and night, so that it never goes over 20-30 ppm, but this is a lot harder as it requires rigorous testing to see which bubble counts works best and even if you find that sweetspot, it will never be the same because the pressure in the cannister changes with time and the counter will not read the same when the bottle is close to the end vs when it was new, so you will have to start adjusting again.. Another way is to include an Airstone to provide aeration at night and keep the CO2 running as you normally would, but I would worry about the PH here so I do not fully recommend this method... One disadvantage that you will never be able to cover without a valve, is cost effectiveness... You always end up wasting CO2 like this unfortunately and it begs the question if a proper CO2 is not worth it more in the long run, especially one with a rechargeable bottle.

Considering there are people hooking up the 5-20 pounds canister to the Sodastream machine to save cost, I would say this alternative although convenient it is less cost effective. Also there is a concern of end of tank syndrome because of the single gauge, you don’t have worry killing your fish when you make soda. I hook up a 10 pound canister and I can forget about it for 3 months.So I wouldn’t go cheap on the CO2 regulator.

@@MauweeWauwee In the UK most aquarium shops charge very high prices for exchange on refillable bottles and refilling operatives tend not to welcome ordinary consumers, they tend to be 'trade only'. I have used sodastream canisters for a long time on some of my tanks and use an adapter. Its a great idea for a product! The only things i think are missing on this system is the solenoid which could be added i guess but also a valve on the regulator itself so that you can activate the canister pin after its connected. Having to quickly turn the regulator to avoid co2 going everywhere would seem scary to new hobbyists possibly Also normally sodastreams can be exchanged at shops to a new bottle for a low fee but I assume you they wouldn't exchange the dennerle bottle so this may be another additional cost in the long term

The only real benefit that I can see to this product is that it attracts a consumer base who has not yet tried CO2 but are familiar with Soda Stream products. In this case, it makes setting up a system much less scary and more achievable. I don't see any reason as to why an experienced aquarist would use this product as opposed to getting a solid two stage regulator, hosing, and diffuser. The biggest flaw in this product is the lack of solenoid valve. Having to turn this on and off manually is a pain and for new aquarists, increases the risk of gassing off your fish due to the risk of forgetting to switch it off (assuming tank aeration is less than desired), as well as staghorn and other algae outbreaks due to inconsistent CO2 levels that come along with manually setting the CO2 each day and slightly different times.

What is Max pressure because sometimes u need more than 1,5 bar ? U said nothing about the DVC Technik it makes a double chamber pressure reducer unnecessary when it works like dennerle says.

Mooi systeem. Ik heb 500gr fles, co2art systeem en 75 liter cube. Hoelang zou ik hier ongeveer mee moeten doen ? Bubbelspersec ?? 👍
@MJAquascaping3 жыл бұрын
5 maanden zou wel moeten lukken. Maar is afhankelijk van hoeveel CO2 jou bak verbruikt

Nice item, but a little bit expensive...

It is a wonderful idea but for 175€ there are other options that are cheaper and better

Hey, I got a question. Do you have any issues with your cat and the tanks? Or do you just not leave the cat alone in the tank room(s)?
@MJAquascaping3 жыл бұрын
No issues at all. Sometimes they drink from the tanks, but that's all

priice..i see on some sites its costs aloot, around 180E depends on shop. for that priice u can have easly normal co2 system with 5kg bottle wiith solonoiid and PH computer. ..way overpriced. :( but looks rly good .

Was so excited till you said no solenoid. Oh well. I’ve been using soda co2 bottle for years (love the Soda Sense program, you mail in your empties and they send you new ones and label)

Good idea, but without valve, it's a no buy for me. I have a Chinese sodastream with valve. it's working perfectly (for less than 40 euros all included. and 2 euros for the sodastream adaptation). The good point for the Chinese product : you could also use it with fire extinction bottle ! A good idea, but need to do a V2. By the way, thanks for your test about the "colombo" co2 homemade system. I buy one on aliexpress for the single day (64 euros, all included for the 2 liters double). A very, very good product !

Co2 supermarket have a similar product but I don't think the quality is as good

A bit expensive and like you already mentioned no option to turn off at night, better to buy an adapter for your normal regulator/solenoid from CO2Art the Pro-Series CO2 Adapter - Paintball / Sodastream.

Hi there! :-) I use Sodastream CO2 now for more than a year. I would not want to change it. It's just perfect for me. I also use Sodastream for my drinking water. But I do not use a prebuild set. I bought my regulator from HIWI and the rest like I wanted it to be. I really do not like dennerles idea of black CO2 hoses with white lables on it. Bad design in my opinion. And for us design is important! ;-P

That's cool! How much does a refill cost you?
@MarcoB.3 жыл бұрын
@@MJAquascaping I buy cheaper zylinders than the original Sodastream ones. Here in Germany we have "Sodastar" from ALDI Süd. There I pay 5,99 € and it's no extra way to drive because I buy food there at same time :-)

@@MarcoB. that's good to know. Where I live (Berlin), I guess I only have Aldi Nord, but hopefully they sell Sodastar, too. I never checked before, as I don't own a Sodastream. But I will consider starting to use co2 for my aquarium that way.

Hi, is it still working good for you? I planned to buy fzone regulator mini dual stage, and put the sodastream adapter, but the support from fzone told me that sodastream does not have enough PSI pressure.

Een vulling van een orginele sodastream Red je niet voor 5 euro. Zelf vullen Kan een optie zijn.
@AlTyler1383 жыл бұрын
I use a sodastream with an adaptor, on my third bottle and it's been great. 1 bottles lasts about 3 months at 1bps for me. Shame it doesn't come with the solenoid though, that will be a deal breaker for most. Also that nice packaging you mentioned is ruined by the time you open it and see all the cling film...
@gouzios13 жыл бұрын
too expensive.Had ordered in parts complete set 2kg for less than 160 euro online. 2kg, with solenoid and shipping. I have a soda-stream and would love to buy the system for 100 euro maybe, or only the regulator if sold as part separately for half. As idea it is cool. btw they sell adaptors for these bottles to use with norm regulator.
