They called it the World's Steepest Incline Railway and it was (so steep that at the bottom, you were so reclined in the seats that you were facing the ceiling of the little terminal). We used to take company up the mtn every summer. Just before the car went into the little house at the top it would shake. It was always a hair-raising ride. My dad's band played at dances in the casino on Saturday nights in the summer. Still think the mtn looks odd w/o the casino.

So True! That incline was scary as crap, even for me and my Sisters! We were 5, 6, & 7 the first of many Summer trips there! The Bands were Amazing! My Mom would bring us early, but the party didn't start until the Sun went down!!!🎶🥂🎶💕

I rode this when I was a child with my family but don't remember what year. I had recently visited Beacon and the site of the Incline Railway, was trying to recall what it was like. Then I happened upon this video so thank you.

Did the operator waving his hat ride down on a little sled? If so, I wonder how they got it back up on the return trip.

I, my son & friend rode this in the 70's when it was still working. It was wonderful.

I was just hiking up there today. I was online simply searching for some pictures from Mt. Beacon's "glory days" and stumbled across this. How exciting!! Thank you for posting this!

I went there hiking and in the woods there were 3 collapsed houses. I found old newspapers from the 1920's! It was sooo cool! You should definitely try to find it!

I remember riding this in the mid to late 70's. Beacon was a mess then, it's good to see that it has changed for the better in recent years!

A friend of mine had permission to run the car after it had closed down. Mr Allen owned it at that time. We went and partied up there. That was probably around 1969.
