This coaster is extremely important and special to me because the original coaster was my number one overall coaster. It debuted the same month and year I was born (May 2003). My first ride was in 2012 and I was terrified. But after riding it the first several times, I fell in love with it. I was extremely impressed with the reimagined version and it still is my number one overall. I rode it 30 times in the short time it was open last year. I was very disappointed about this whole extended closure but I have faith that Zamperla will redeem themselves and get this right. Although I like Top Thrill 2's experience better than the original, I liked the original coaster's theming better, such as the ARMS DOWN, HEAD BACK, AND HOLD ON! and real Dragster sound effects. Literally the best experience of my life!

@@robw5741 I count TT2 as a new credit because the ride experience is different. Different launch, different ride experience, new track section..credits are subjective.. Powder Keg, isnt a new credit if you had buzzsaw falls? do you count batman clone as individual credits or one? That is the same ride experience even though the location is different. I am sure I have credits some dont count as credits, and I might not be counting others that some do. I was an Operations Manager at Cedar Point for a little while and Tony is being very honest here. Here’s the deal, the park will never reveal everything that happened to TT2. (This is my experience talking here). If we started tossing out all of this jargon of everything that was a problem, the media will blow it out of proportion and tarnish Zamperla, Six Flags Entertainment, and Cedar Point into the ground. In fact I have an example, I know you Marcus were with us in 2018 for the Steel Vengeance media day. On the first operating day to the public, the ride had an accident where trains bumped into one another. We got it re-opened that night! Stuff just happens and things have to be adjusted. If we say “there was a manufacture concern, the ride will be open as soon as they clear it”. The media leaves us alone. (What really happened is this). The block brakes and final trim brakes on the brake run were experiencing warmer temperatures for the first time since commissioning and the ride was operating at higher speeds than anticipated, when a train was coming into the brakes and about to stack out, it skidded further than intended and made contact with the train in front of it. If we say all that, the media will take that and go “brakes fail on Cedar Point’s new attraction” and now it’s all over. That isn’t what happened though and the ride manufacturer (RMC) and even the designer were all on site and made the adjustments that same day and we were rolling again. Zamperla’s issue was to the point that remanufacturing trains essentially takes a lot of time. There’s a ton of math and physic’s involved. Again, if the park says more than they have…the media would kill it 😂 I hope this was a little bit insightful, but Tony is right. The amount of testing and the number of eyes watching the ride when it’s being commissioned is rigorous. The Ohio Department of Agriculture is ruthless (as they should be). Those rides really are some of the safest in the entire world. I’ve spent a lot of time when I worked there during the off-season and after the park would close for the day, I know how hard those maintenance folks and ride manufacturers themselves work.
@Frankenberry7 күн бұрын
I feel like that cuts both ways though. When you refuse to give information, people (especially on the Internet) tend to assume the absolute worst case scenario. It gives people the chance to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Seems like the better idea would be to give a detailed account of what's wrong and how you're fixing it .. than to just leave people frustrated and speculating.
@texasbbq31917 күн бұрын
@ You’d think, but whenever we would be transparent…guests and media still made assumptions or made their own story up anyway with their buzzword headlines. It’s no different than how the mainstream media is today. It was determined in a meeting that there’s zero benefit to continue to be transparent. That’s why since the merger the company is doing things (like closing old rides) without warning because the coaster community and the general public that do pay attention are going to be mad for the sake of being mad regardless. One of my duties was to pretend I was a guest. I’d get in line and strike up conversations with the general public dressed in regular street clothes so I could get their opinions. Didn’t matter when we told them more than necessary. The human mind wants to naturally assume the worst and be negative. So why tell people?

I rode TT2 at one of the preview days. It was very shaky side-to-side on the return track and somewhat going backwards. The top hat was nice to go over again but the wheels are so large you feel higher over the track than TTD the O.G. TT2 is a very slow launch and doesn't make it up very high for a "rollback". I have one true rollback stalled from the top of TTD. It felt like my back was going thru the seat gravity wants you out of it. The seat backs were much thinner on TTD since TT2 is built to go backwards 120mph. The rear spike I liked on Wicked Twister better since it twisted & stalled (and could watch All Wheels Extreme in the stadium). TT2 lockers were free on preview days. The locker attendant told me there's 660 of them by TT2, $3 for 2hrs, $5 for 4 hrs, $2 for every hour OT. If it breaks down, they turn the timer on their phone to make up for the time. So that's not a large up charge such as SlingShot , however the TT2 ride experience would have to be better for me than what I experienced on preview day to pay to play so-to-speak. TTD was my all-time favorite ride. TT2 can't match the TTD initial 0-120mph zip of the cable launch that was the whole point in the first place. TTD was more of a "Top Thrill." It's nice TT2 was well-received and merch was selling well.

Crazy to think TT2, 20 years after the far more complex TTD, was down considerably more than TTD ever was it's first year. Genuinely shocking. Zamperla is entirely at fault, but you can't blame them for figuratively and literally selling TT2 to CP. @ The government told them since the arrival of Six Flags that they wouldn't get any permissions to deforest. When SFM didn't get the approval to cut trees in order to install Sirens Curse SFM made an official statement that said they won't cut any trees, "the park found a solution and the 25th anniversary unique coaster will be placed in other zone in the park". A month later the new owners of the chain (Cedar Fair) announced that a new coaster will open in its favorite park Cedar Point because that park is lacking coasters (17) and SFM have a lot of them (9). Then Six Flags announced that Mexico now won't get any attraction to its 25th anniversary until 2026 when we will get a Family Boomerang and then SFM just turned off the comment section on all its social medias, what a solution! Someone is lying here SFM didn’t have a real solution or Six Flags (Cedar Fair) just said Fk 0ff and give us that coaster. In this video Tony Clark says "another park in our system could not build it so we were able to take advantage of that" which is pretty convenience when you have surveys that tells you that people want that exact particular type of coaster while in Mexico people are desperate for a Family Boomerang.
