We are diving into a little bit of classic and The Godfather was our first thought since it's one of the famous movies but we haven't seen it both! We were skeptical about the movie but oh boy...this movie proved us wrong! We were so caught up in it and we were glad that this is a trilogy!!!
we didn't even recognize Al Pacino...that's how dumb we were! 🤣

Michael conducted this war, NOT like a mafia don, but like a military man. He used precise timing, brilliant strategy, and a militaristic approach to intelligence gathering and subterfuge. He essentially carried out a "shock and awe" campaign that left his enemies reeling. This single day's events let all the other families know that the Corleone family was NOT weakened by the death of Vito. They all quickly realized that Michael was a leader to be respected, and sometimes feared.

Honestly, I kinda see them as one long film. I can never start Part I and NOT follow with Part II immediately after it. Same way with the LOTR films. I must see them all in one sitting. Now, with Part III, even though it is weaker and has many flaws, I personally like it. It still has many iconic moments. But I agree with Coppola's assessment that it should've never been called "The Godfather Part III" but rather "The Death of Michael Corleone." It is a epilogue, and separate from the others in a way.
@drlee2
@drlee2 2 жыл бұрын
The Godfather is in a small class of film that I consider to be perfect. Your joke analogy is perfect to explain the difference between older films and newer ones. Movies in the 70s, 80s and 90s (and even ones before that) really paid attention to detail and were about telling a story, just like a methodical joke that has a lot of detail, so when you get to the punchline, the result is a big payoff just like the ending of a great scene or film. The beginning and middle of the scene/movie is just as good as the ending because the writers and director took their time getting there and filled it with a lot of depth. But modern movies are missing the meat of the story, so that everything feels like a punchline. Every other line characters say in movies now, regardless of genre, feels like constant jokes and sarcasm. There's no meat to the scenes or depth to the characters. When every character is sarcastic, they don't feel unique or real. They feel like writers' puppets and sounding boards. Also, there are actually some early 00s movies that are definitely great, too. But somewhere around the late 00s, films lost their individuality and many of them sadly started feeling interchangeable.

My favorite scene is when Michael and Enzo the baker pretend to have guns in front if the hospital, to scare the hitmen. Enzo is shaking so bad he cannot light his cigarette, so Michael lights it for him. Then Michael looks at his own hand, its not shaking at all, and he knows right there. Exsoldier, business student in college, and nerves of steel; he has everything he needs to be the Don. It's a cool moment.

Sollozzo refers to himself as a "man of honour" to indicate that he is a member of a mafia clan. in Sicily the mafia is referred to as the "honoured society" and members "men of honour". The line is something like "You must understand that I'm a man of honor..." He's telling Michael that he is made in their tradition, Michael says he understands. Solozzo goes on to explain "You do? You must understand that I helped the Tattaglia family and once I make a deal, I seek nothing but peace. Leave aside all this nonsense." He's essentially telling Michael that if he understands, then he should understand why the hit on Vito was inevitable in accordance with their tradition.

@@cflournoy1529 Absolutely. In my opinion, The greatest weakness of the Reaction Video genre is the film selection process. I understand the desire to maximize ones audience by giving them what they want, but that strategy is terribly flawed. It results in the most popular films being reacted to to death, while a hundred times as many deserving films go unwatched. Hopefully the genre will evolve.

Out of my 3200 movies on the list, I have disagreed with the rating exactly twice. While the Godfather (I & II) are not my personal favorites, in the compilation scores, The Godfather is #1 on the list, The Godfather part II is #2. They are both in my top ten of personal favorites. I'm glad you watched and enjoyed it. Directed by Coppola, all his immediate family are actors/directors. Sophia, Nicolas Cage, and Connie...is Rocky Balboa's wife! Coppola also did Apacalypse Now, and The Outsiders, chock packed full of future stars! Also in this series, Sonny's iligitimate son, with the woman he's screwing behind the door, plays a major role in 3! In part 2 the FBI agent is Harry Dean Stanton! He's been in every movie made since the silent era!😅😅😅. Outsiders, Red Dawn, Godfather 2, Dillinger, Green Mile, Alien, and others. RIP to him. The guy Carlo, is still alive and very well connected, and has avoided death, even in foreign countries, because of his Ties. He wrote 1 or 2 books, best sellers, about his businesses, casinos, mob ties, and various stories. He tells it point blank, who and why, killed JFK, RFK, and Monroe. And no one has tried to sue him from the Monroe estate or the Kennedys, because they know every word he said, is true! And they dont want him spilling his guts off, in open court! Type in here, carlo from godfather, tells mob stories! The hit on Sonny, they guy that designed the hit and all the exploding blood speefs, he said, he never put so many creepy ass blood spleefs on anyone ever before! A masterclass of comedy writing, movie was made in the 90s as a semi parody of this movie, well woth watching. Starring Vito, Clemenza from part 2, and Matthew Broderick called, The Freshman. Well worth watching! Young clemenza also in, when Harry met Sally, City Slickers, and Good Morning Vietnam! The movie guy's story is partially true. Frank Sinatra was a huge star in the 30s and 40s but wanted to break into acting, and in good parts but his star was fading. He and his crew started hanging out with huge mob people. They were known as The Rat Pack. Dean, Him, Peter, Sammy, and Joey. Suddenly frank gets parts in 2 of the biggest movies ever....From Here to Eternity and The Manchurian Candidate! Vito was better than Michael, because he was a family man first, before he was a boss. And this is one series, where part 2 is better than 1!!! And u must watch a comedy called, The Freshman! So funny and good! Brando plays a caricature of himself, and his young friend from Godfather 2, has a part in it! Also realize, in part 2, roth is behind every hit, but he does them with words an inuendo, and knows other people will carry out hits, without him even ordering them!

Love watching you really figure out the story with great character development. You are 100% right about today's movies using cgi and dirty scripts to bring younger crowd in.

The reason Carlo was garroted in the car was because Michael wanted him to die in the most painful way possible for his part in the killing of Santino!

Plot twist; even if Italians they can't pronounce any names or words properly. It reminds me of Martin Scorsese who still doesn't know how his surname is pronounced.

Consider reading the book (it covers 1st and second movie). It answers many questions, fills out characters. Also, there are many scenes in the movie that don't really make sense unless you read the book.

@@MJoy4Fun You'll see many of the same actor's ,that were in Casablanca ,because of the old studio contract system, it kept little troops' of actor's together to make many different movies together. But Bogie was always the leading man . Have a Great Day

Please continue with the Godfather Trilogy, but your comments on old versus new movies made me think you also would really enjoy Chinatown (1974), a private eye movie that is certainly one of the greatest movies ever made. And by the way, if you want to compare that with an even much older (and great) movie that essentially began the private eye movie tradition, there's The Maltese Falcon (1941), which inspired so many others.
