Just remember that you are doing quality work that can save your life at sea. No boat yard can dedicate the time, using the best components you can buy to give you what you need. It is Totally custom!! . It takes time.. It will pay off in spades as you will know all there is about all systems in place, this makes trouble shooting a breeze when needed. Please feel great accomplishment every day the both of you, when you look her over. Great work!! And to the Lady of the boat... We can see in your face that struggle internally to press on as this is stressful drudgery which is taking much longer than you thought. It is tough work. He is doing great. You are the greatest doing all the different things that need done. Excellent couple. I recomend your vlog constantly and will watch while you guys sail off into the sunset!!! I have built 2 boats from scratch. The work does eventually end. congratz

On a really nice day at the yard here in Chicago, I might get the inside of the boat warmed up to nearly 50-degrees by the time the sun starts to go past the inside storage building to the southwest of us and because of that sun shadow temps quickly start falling again below freezing outside. There have been a quite a few days this past month where I couldn't get the inside of the boat much above freezing at all at the highest. Those are the days when I get to the boat at 8:00 and the thermometer inside is in the single-digits. If I can manage to get it above the freezing mark inside, it usually doesn't happen until at least after 2 or 3PM.

I can hear from the tone of your voice that you are really getting stressed out about the work and never ending projects. Keep the faith dear. It will get done and you will get out on the water and then it will be all that much sweeter. You know how hard you had to work to get there. Also don't sweat the anniversaries. Working thru the hardships in live is what makes you a stronger couple. Lastly, appreciate whee you are and what you are doing. There are a lot of folks, like me, who would trade places in a minute. Minus 11 up here in Alaska. 4 feet of snow on the ground. I would much rather be in Florida. Even at 50 degrees. So smile more and be happy. It is that easy, just decide to be happy.

I am loving watching your videos, quite the project! As I watched the end of the installation of the hard dodger I could not help but thinking using the same holes as for the support you could install stainless steel hand rails on top. You must be a very patient wife! To be taken off a perfectly good boat in the middle of your dream turned around and given a year and a half of hell working on that boat. Please keep in mind that just because it is aluminum it needs to have been built for ice to go to the arctic. Keep that guy in check the next time he thinks of another wild idea. Good luck. Can't wait to see you bothc underway. Cheers!
@MJSailing7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was a lot of my idea too...once we were here anyway. Once we saw the new boat it person Matt was ok with keeping our old boat and sailing the Caribbean for a few more years. It was me who pushed to keep the new boat. A lot more time than we originally thought, but it will be so worth it when we're on the water again.

Would this boat yard be a great spot to build your catamaran and is this where your thinking of building it?
@dusty2657 жыл бұрын
The bottom looks great, If your cutting into your base metal with the Palm and orbital sanders there is a easy fix, On surfaces such as the hull of a boat you have these large what appear to be flat surfaces, which in fact have some very complex curves to them. If you switch to a Long board you will find out that your Sanding with go Mech faster, and the surface will be MUCH flatter, its a trick that some of the best body men use. The long board is really nothing more then a piece of 3 inch wide 24 inch long sand paper on a some What flexible block, you can buy them for under $20.00 Good luck things look great
@MJSailing7 жыл бұрын
Matt did use one of those while sanding and fairing the hard dodger, maybe we'll have to try it on the hull as well. Thanks for the tip!

Congrats on 17. My partner & I just hit 15. We couldn't get married so we did a 50 year verbal contract,as a joke, and now, as a joke, we do a countdown. So, technically, our last celebration was a 35 years left to go party. Her sense of humor is just like mine so I guess it works out.

Still wondering on the decision for n Ali boat. Thing looks like it's nothing but dents and condensation issue sand while 'better' than composite in ice conditions. Not much better. Titanic was of Steel :-)

If it is warm outside and cold inside that is evidence that your insulation IS working. When it isn't, the temperature will be the same. That said, you might want more.
Haha, true. But it is quite a change from our normal 80 degrees, and not quite the beach weather we'd been hoping for to celebrate our anniversary. ;)

@Dvseire7 жыл бұрын
You seem very stressed in this video, the progress seems slow on the bottom because it feels like two steps forward and one back, every time you have to go back with the filler, but it will be all worth it in the end. All the work you have done inside the boat has been great detailed work that is a credit to your skills, but while trying to do everything yourself can give you a great sense of satisfaction and save some money, but the trade off is it takes a lot of time! I don't know if its an option or if you have thought about it, but there are other people working on boats around you also, and the jobs you are working on at the moment it seems, would benefit from more hands than just the two of you. Would it be worthwhile to offer to help somebody else on their boat for a day or two doing something they need help with, so they could help you for a day or two to move these bigger tasks forward? Best wishes, Dave.
