Hi guys, I am waiting for this boat to sit out in the sun and get some amazing long shots in addition to the many exquisite details you are featuring. Today was a great demonstration of the depth of work required to just get to doing "the work". The hatch covers are excellent and what a great way to preserve the good work you have done while you move outside. I was hating the shrink wrap as a big waste of material, until i considered how much material it will take to make a suitable shed to work in and how flexible this option is. I t will be good to do a round up video of how much material has gone into the boat, When i look back at videos of the hulls on Styrofoam cradles and glassing the bridge deck it is mindboggling how big a project this really is for two people to take on. Kudos you guys are bold and fantastic.

Day by day, week by week, you're getting the job done. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. Two questions: 1) How much glassing, faring, and sanding do you have left? 2) After you get the boat out of the tent, what are the next "big" steps in the boat build?
@MJSailing4 ай бұрын
I'll let Matt answer the question about what glassing and fairing needs to be done once we get out, but a partial answer to that is combined with question two. Once we're in the work yard (and Sept & Oct temps will be great for this) we'll finally have the room necessary to be able to add the bows and sterns. 😀

Sometimes a certain job you do brings shows me yet again that this project is all about time. I don't know for sure, but maybe a day taken to get the hatches all, drilled, cut, sealed, taped and put in place. And there are a million similar projects. One day at a time. The white of the shrink wrap almost makes it look painted. Stay safe.

I really think it will help you prioritize things when you move the boat. In homebuilding there are a couple of stages that are a “clearing the decks” type of phases. Foundation, Sheetrock, paint. These are really helpful milestones that allow you to stop, plan a bit, and refocus on the new targets.

If that's the tape that is commonly used with DrShrink, then it sticks to just about anything, even if it's wet. My company uses a propane shrinking torch to shrink the DrShrink. Pretty cool stuff.
@MJSailing4 ай бұрын
Really? Yesterday I just went to add it on top of the plywood of the hatches, and the tape was on the part of the deck where it was down to sanded fiberglass and polyester fairing compound - and did not want to stick after I took the heat gun to it! We think we'll have to peel those back off, get a finish primer around the edges, and do it again. 😢
@Jpeveto444 ай бұрын
@MJSailing oh wow. Ok. I will have to get the exact type of tape that we use and relay that to you. I know for a fact that we use Mr. Shrink even the box that it comes in is the same as what i saw in this video. The tape that we use can actually be a headache because of how sticky it is.

When the factory builds this model of boat, how many man-hours of work is it? How many are you planning for?
@MJSailing4 ай бұрын
They are down to around 9000 build hours. I think we currently have about 12,000 and will need another 5,000 for the remainder of the build. But 18,000 is still less than a few professional catamaran companies we know.

cutting fibre glass is a nightmare, it grinds the cutting edges so fast, also on your last video you kept snapping thread taps, when tapping aluminium, i would suggest you use a cutting fluid, rather than cutting it dry, it will save you a few taps... loved this series btw.....

let me ask you a question. your boat is going to be moved outside. right now it is being built on a set of posts and blocks, all your measurements are done in one place. do you think that lifting and moving your boat to a new area, will mess up all the work that you have done so far. you will never get it to sit right from where you are now

Quick question! I recall from the early bonding assembly of the hulls that you screwed a bajillion screws into the hull to keep everything smooshed together while the adhesive cured. What have you guys done with those holes yet? I don't recall you filling or painting them? Is that a to-do project or did I miss something? ps: Jess, you're incredibly beautiful. It needed to be said 😎

Why are you shrink wrapping it? If your plan is to build another cover around the boat, why not build it first or move the boat and build it in a good weather window. I feel like that’s quite a lot of time and money for a project boat.
