What's also sad is that DC Comics has a sort of "Stanley Cup" character that would fit in the more female driven Magical Girl/ Miraculous audience in Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. She's kind of like Shazam/She-Ra hybrid with a gemstone aesthetic and even had a flying unicorn, too. She's usually brought out every once in awhile for DC to do something with like recently had a YA novel and DC Comics mini series, but nothing never really took off. Maybe if she got a cute cartoon other than the DC Nation miniseries from years back and fashion/action doll line aimed at young girls who like Magical Princesses it may prove more successful than having Amethyst flop in cape comic market or rely too much on "Wonder Woman in High School" media even though I did like both versions of DC Super Hero Girls. Hell, IIRC Amethyst was suppose to be a toy line that came with comics and while the toys didn't go anywhere, the pretty art saved her. But the real deal breaker is the actual talent behind the project that knows and likes what they are doing and won't be ready to insult people who don't agree with them like The Buy Guide. And even without Kevin Conroy's passing, the whole game feels like a mean-spirited tear down of superheroes while saying the bad guys are cooler, which has been going on for ages. Theres also something "special" how they have their blackwashed Deadshot insult an original and beloved black character in John Stewart.

PS: The thing people need to understand that at the end of the day... some products really are going to attract the same consist demographic no matter how much times change. Like another KZbinr said, it's like if Cover Girl suddenly decided to switch gears and make products (including make up) for men. It's just not going to work. The main audience for fashion is and always will be women and not because people are bigoted or sexist. It's because numbers and facts say so. Most men do not wear make up nor do they want to take up wearing it. Sure, you can make aftershave, moisturizer and beard wax or something, but it will never even reach half the quota the make up women buy. It's the same thing with comics. The main demographic consists of dudes. And for the record, I'm a woman who loves comics and even WRITES comics who has long since accepted this. The big difference here is that the gender, race, religion, etc. of the character doesn't matter to the main demographic. They just want the MCs to be cool and for the story to be great. They don't want political statements, to watch their favourite characters be humiliated or become disposable, or feel like the comics are shaming them for being what they are (I don't think anyone enjoys being made to feel that way when reading a book or watching a show/film). It has nothing to do with being anti-diversity. A large majority of these dudes are liberal leaning themselves and are cool with the MCs not being like them. Right now, the industry really can do better and needs to graciously accept this.

Facts! It's definitely has driven me away from a lot of big name brands in the comic book industry (aside from the old moon knight and old Spider-Man Noir) it's why I have mainly been going to the independent ones. It's as one of the channels I watch says "They hate doing this job they'd rather be doing something else" which many have said they hate it and their audience. It's also funny might I add they think that oh it's some new concept having a certain race, gender, etc has never been in any sort of big name brands whether comics or movies. An example of a good well known superhero who's a woman is OG Wonder Woman. She had her flaws and has gone through struggles and character development. She's also a good example of a strong bada$$ woman. Like just make new good characters. That go through character development. That have weaknesses. That struggles. Because I can't relate to this almighty perfect can do no wrong characters who look down on people. And the fact some companies think someone can't relate or even see themselves in a character that doesn't look like them is absolutely dumb. Also if you have comics published can I ask for the name would love to check it out when I can.
I would have never thought to compare these but you made the best take I've heard yet.

Another good example of your Stanley Cup scenario (which ironically is related to comics) is the Young Justice series. I believe the series was originally on the Cartoon Network and did well but NOT with the intended demographic of young boys, but instead with young girls and older men/women. Understandingly it was problematic because the network wanted to market merch for boys, so the network cancelled it (which led to the network creating Teen Titans Go!). With a few years of advocacy (especially ironically from mostly older male comic fans) Netflix bought the rights to the series and made a few seasons of the series successfully.

You can make it a story where the New Black widow is racing to save as many of her sister's as she can with the bare bone resources that you has compared to taskmaster who has the whole shield backing them up even though he's technically altering and lying about what he's doing. I'm not sure these media companies are trying to expand their audiences (especially comics). They're explicitly trying to REPLACE their audiences. Current year comics writers are pretty out-in-the-open about their belief that classic comic heroes are "Nietzschean power fantasies" whose fans are "nerds" who can't get a girlfriend (admittedly that's a bit redundant, there, the core definition of a nerd is a male whose hobbies are so inherently "uncool" that no girl would date them). They're trying to appeal to the "modern audience" the _know_ is out there. Somewhere. They showed up for Barbie, didn't they? Eventually . . .

To be honest, that’s not a smart idea, seeing as how the people behind that company exist and want to destroy gaming, or at least gaming that doesn’t fit their definition of DEI. Closing your eyes and ignoring it doesn’t make the problem go away.

@@John-fk2kyI disagree first of all is there any proof that sweet baby inc to destroy gaming. If you don't like their games that's totally fine but don't you think this is getting out of hand the controversy you're acting like sweet baby inc broke the law or something which they didn't so let me ask you this you are starting a war is that a smart idea

Love the Stanley cup example, however, as you note Stanley didn't go on a big hate campaign against their original customers, IE men, or try to stop making all their old stock and completely change their entire ethos. Most people have no problem with things targeted at men or women, and especially not at things that appeal to both, most men have no problem with female characters or diverse characters. however, for myself I'm terminally sick! of all my entertainment being produced by people who hate me for how I was born! That's why these days I don't read/watch anything produced after 2017 without a strong recommendation, and that goes double if words like "diversity", or "empowerment", are used. Oh, and as a male survivor of female sexual abuse, the scene with Harley quin makes me, ----- mmmm, lets just say angry and leave it at that, since if I try to put what I really think, and what I think should be done with the writer of that scene, YT will definitely ban this comment!

I thought that was a neat story about the cups. I don't have a Stanley one, but I've been gifted a couple knock-offs.

Regarding the Green Lantern bio in Suicide Squad, I assume one of the squad members wrote it? It seems like it was written by a character.

They are, but it’s by a character that was RETCONNED to being black calling a black space police officer various negative things. Compare that to Wonder Woman, praised by Lex Luthor of all people in VERY OOC terms.

The lead writer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Franchise is also Sweet Baby, just in case people want to start believing articles that claim that SBI isn't actually ruining games.

I know next to nothing about gaming, but why is the company that consults on sexism, racism, inclusion, and things like that called "Sweet Baby Inc"? I'm struggling to find any connotations of this phrase which aren't problematic, is that... the point...?
@chengliu87210 ай бұрын
Sometimes companies choose random names, idk why. For example, there is a chain of stores in my area that sells sex toys and the like. The chain is called Castle Megastore and at least one location is shaped like a castle. Idk what a medieval theme has to do with sex toys, but it must be working considering they have at least 3 locations.
@DH-xw6jp8 ай бұрын
@@chengliu872 it's to disguise their true intentions. If you have a bag from castle megastore, nobody will assume what is really in the bag unless they are also a customer.

Instead of uplifting minorities, SBI is dragging iconic white, straight, and/or "skinny" characters down into rarer obscurity and raceswapping. If they want the goodwill of the people, SBI should fight tooth and nail in trying to make NEW characters so incredibly popular and appealing, that children and adults of all races would worship them like an ordinary celebrity. Also, instead of getting a BLACK WOMAN as the diversity character, they should add ASIAN and LATINO men and women. For example, Luz from TOH is a bi Latina, but Disney doesn't let that distract us from the rest of the show.
