My father was career US Army (served 1949-83,he retired as a Master Sergeant) and we were posted in (then) West Germany 4 different times between 1966 & 1983. It was 'Good Duty' as they say in the Army. We had many German friends, and we even took a trip to Austria once with a Family we knew? Our family really enjoyed our postings there, though we never actually got posted to the Stuttgart area (Closest we got was Neu Ulm 1972-75) we did visit there often. Plus I once had to spend a night in the hospital there once in '74? Sadly,I am now the only member still living that was there? (I also apologize for having to respond in English, but after so many years of disuse the German I knew has become so poor that,well...it would just not be the best idea to try it??)

Hello first of all I apologize for the late reply. I was very pleased to receive your message. Böblingen is still an important location for the US Army. The army barracks are located in a huge area on the outskirts of our city with schools, shopping centers, cinemas and apartments. You can check it out on Google Maps. My wife and I met an American family in 1983. The husband was a commander of a maintanance unit and a lieutenant colonel. In 1985 he was transferred to the USA. Nevertheless, our connection remained, we became friends. He visited us several times when he was on duty in Germany and we visited him and his family in Washington DC in 1996. We spent several days there and visited the sights of the city and the surrounding area together. Today we still have a lively exchange via telephone and e-mail, although we have all grown considerably older (we are all between 77 and 80 years old). I send you my warmest greetings and wish you a wonderful Advent season and a Merry Christmas. Manfred Kasten E-mail: m.kasten@outlook.de
