So I figured last night how Sub is supposed to play in this game. He’s not meant to do high damage. His entire kit is built around poking and annoying the opponent to bait them into getting punished. Everyone tries to play him like the rest of the cast when he isn’t build like that. He has some of the best pokes in the game, his specials keep him safe. Ice ball is for punishing projects from behind his clones, deadly vapors is meant to bait them into teleporting or slowing down forward charging moves. Ice clones punish jump ins and button mashing from a few feet away. Everything about this character, from his dialogue to his normals to his specials, show he is meant to poke, back up and bait. Start playing with this in mind and you’ll get so many freezes that the opponent will be afraid to attack, then you mix with grabs or raw overheads That’s why they aren’t buffing his damage or speeding up his ice ball or overhead.

@ something I realized last night is how much meter Sub builds as he’s poking with specials. All the projectiles build meter really fast when blocked so while sitting behind the clone, they think they can just wait it out but they can’t because you’re constantly chipping them and building meter. It makes people anxious; just can’t spam and be too predictable. Gotta bait and wait. Sub Zero is the Grandmaster baiter!
