When Johnny had Kenshi give him his sword, I loved that the artists and writers got the details of how to hand a sword over correctly. That's a little detail that not many outside of the martial arts world would often know, but they put in the effort to get it right.

I love how Kenshi thinks Johnny is taking his sword to make sure he can't fight, but he actually wanted to give him Sento to remind him that he still had so much to live for. Johnny knew that Kenshi was on the brink of despair, so he gave him the one thing that could restore his hope. And while he obviously didn't know that Sento would react to Kenshi like it did, he also believed that Kenshi could defend himself with it, in case things went south. The bond between those two characters really made the story so much more amazing!

I don't think he was on the brink of despair...he was ready to contribute...there's not much indication that he was giving up or depressed, just was wanting to look out for his team, not get them hurt or caught on account of him. He was constantly, since then, trying to contribute at every turn, which doesn't constitute despair. I do think you're dead on about how Johnny truly believed that Kenshi could defend himself even without knowing what Sento would do, no one but us watching could see that coming lol. Johnny gave Kenshi Sento out of pure gratitude for saving his life, he even says it. Johnny knew Kenshi needed and deserved it more and I think this speaks to both mens character arcs as before then Johnny was a selfish materialist, but Kenshi taught him in his own way to be selfless and focus on family and clan, brotherhood. Kenshi realized that Johnny wasn't as self centered as he had originally thought. And you are so right the bond is what really took this story mode to another level

He was still willing to help, yes, but I felt it was more out of desperation, to be useful rather than be viewed as a hindrance. Regardless, it is a great scene, and probably the best Mortal Kombat has ever delivered in terms of character development.

@@hunterofcomedy he only said he was useless once. and yes it's because he felt like a burden but outside of that he didn't show signs to me of depression or desperation. I suffer from depression and bipolar disorder and i didn't pick up any of those signs. I think he was in severe pain and shock, literally how anyone would respond to as traumatic a situation as he experienced, but he quickly recovered. Your point is quite interesting though, as I can see how you got to that conclusion, but i don't think that this is where the writers were going with this situation. He was asking questions, being involved, and literally just being a part of the group, even quipping with Johnny about sleeping in class with the monks, something a desperate depressed person wouldn't do generally. Put it this way, if he were truly suffering from depression, being given Sento wouldn't have necessarily automatically just broke him out of his depression, it doesn't work that way. But I digress. The dynamic between them developed amazingly and it was a joy to watch their character arcs. MK1 is incredible and i totally agree that this is the best that MK has done. The fact that we can kindly debate this speaks to the level of awesomeness and depth this game and franchise has given to its fans. Cheers

Asking for Baraka to keep talking, being afraid when his sword was asked. And even after Sento, is it just all fixed for him? Has he moved on, or pretends to not show weakness? I'm interested in the answers.

Fun fact. When Johnny's wife complained about all the stuff he bought. She mentions 3 things. The Vase/Hitchule. The drone. & Sento. All which are used in the story. The vase, after it gets broken, he starts to actually fight and clear his mind. Sento restored kenshi's vision. And the drone is used near the last chapters to see Shang tsung's army and plans with the gate.

Baraka mentioned that the spirits from the living forest are good. Since this ermac was made from these spirits (and was only "evil" because Quan chi was controlling them) and sento's telekinesis powers came after kenshi stabbed ermac with it, I assume that the absorbed spirits gave sento that power willingly. It's wholesome to think that sento spirits consist now of kenshi's family + good outworld souls. I also assume that the remaining spirits trapped inside ermac are willingly allowing jerrod to assume control, to be an avatar of these souls

I really like what they did with Johnny this time. For the past three games (I only started playing in MK9) he never felt like an actor to me. He made references to his movies and other characters called him an actor but that was about it. In this game we get to see his house showing that he's a millionaire and we actually see him doing a little bit of acting, making it feel like he's an actual celebrity movie star. It's a really small improvement and I don't think anyone cares as much as I do, but it's something I really like

Love the.... odd new bromance between Johnny and Kenshi. And I loved how in this timeline, Johnny 'gifts' the Sento to Kenshi which allows him to connect with his Taira ancestors. Nice new change to Kenshi's story and a good segway into a friendship between him and Johnny Cage. Loved how Johnny gives Kenshi his iconic red blindfold. Also loved the "secret" romance between Tanya and Mileena. That was a nice touch. Then throwing in that Syzoth and Ashura are a thing, yeah.... all these new relationships, connections, bonds and stuff threw me off.... but I like it!!

It seems kinda fitting here, regarding the gifting and the friendship between Johnny and Kenshi. When Kenshi tried to steal Sento, his noble intentions were tainted by crooked means. So the sword eluded him and he failed to retrieve it. Later, when he sacrificed for the sake of the man he tried to steal the sword from, losing his eyesight in the process of protecting him, he was given the sword as reward for his noble actions. The blade he sought to lead his clan out of the grasp of the yakuza could only be obtained by honest means, not the crooked means his former masters would employ. And through them, he was able to fully leave them behind and reconnect with his past ancestors and lineage.

I am just now starting to watch the story mode of MK1 and I gotta say, as crazy as it sounds, this scene actually had me shedding tears. I even knew at some point that Johnny was probably going to give Kenshi the Sento, but it didn't hit any less hard. Such a unique interaction between two characters we never thought would interact with each other that much if at all. It didn't take away from Johnny's classic personality, but man, it showed he can be a great brother when he wants to be.

It's funny how Kenshi to this point got his telekinesis power in three different way. In blind snow movie it's essentially sento's power which can be mastered via training. Kenshi's power in Previous timeline and new timeline are in way similar. In previous timeline he learned telekinesis from ermac after he freed him from the control of shao khan, in this one he got it by absorbing the energy from him. It makes wonder if sento can absob the energy of other magic users like scorpion or sub zero or Raiden and gain there powers as well?

Everyone think Johnny Cage is a douche bag. Yes, he jokes a lot but the guy has a heart of gold. Probably the biggest one out of all the characters. I was one over with Johnny in MK 11 when he told Raiden you don’t have a family lose. (him and Fujin being basically gods) He loved Cassie and Sonya with all his heart. Sonya risked her life for nothing blowing up the cathedral and Kronika turned right around and rebuilt it.

I was commenting on another post and had a thought. what if the souls that were used to power the rock army were the same souls that were powering Sento. They all came from the living forest, even the souls syphoned from Ermac. If that's correct then that would make Sento one of the most powerful objects in the game, and Kenshi one of the most powerful characters in the game, as he's the one who's been chosen to wield it, they called him by name. This would mean he had the same power as an entire army, his ancestors, and Ermac at his fingertips. The same power Bi-Han betrayed the Lin Quay to possess. And this is just the beginning of the story.

They are not the same souls, but they function in similar ways. Basically souls function as an energy source in the MK universe. With that being said different objects require more/less souls. As far as where he ranks power level wise(as in consistent as the MK universe is) He’s up there(at least he was in the old timelines) but, he cannot take on the dragon army alone
