Thank you for showing the actual crank pulleys. Most books might mention 4 slots vs 8 slots on the pulley to identify the crank you have at a glance but few show an actual photograph. Even the official shop manual does not show photographs illustrating the differences. So good show!

I do have the 1.8l gtx turbo engine and do have shortnose crankshaft

If my timing is jumping at idle around ~1.5 degrees, is this is the issue? My pulley is solid chunk of rust. I think i just have do drive, and when it fails, swap an engine. It will be cheaper, these new MX5 parts are so expensive.

Evening, great video and exactly what I'm after. Hoping to finally pick up a mk1 in approx 3 months. can you recommend a trader that imports rust free examples? I've been to see 9 to date all described as mint and all turned out to be rot boxes.

+Glen Dunn hi glen, We don't import them, but we do get hold of good cars, we currently have a couple in stock, both need a little work though, where are you based?

Andre Henry bad keyway causes pulley wobble and timing to skip
@tonyb768 жыл бұрын
why not buy a new keyway?
@lightsuplightsdown30188 жыл бұрын
Because the key way is part of the crank, so therefore you would need to buy a new crank
@BD52436 жыл бұрын
Because it'a already worn.

The keyway is a groove in the crankshaft. And to replace the crankshaft you'd need to pull the engine apart,replacing a bunch of stuff that isn't re-usable (basically you'd be rebuilding an engine). And rebuilding an engine is expensive and time consuming, applying tread glue to a bolt isn't
