@@onestep I loved MK11 when it dropped, played it relentlessly with my brother. I'm hardly knowledgeable about fighting games but I feel like in 11 I was just a stronger player - I had a fairly decent Skarlet (she was the coolest in that game, they need to bring her back), and I thought customizing gear/move sets/intros etc was a lot of fun. That said I think MK1 is a way better game than people give it credit for. Story was fun, it's smooth to play... I just personally have been struggling to build up a character I feel great about using (I loved Ermac but he's harder to use effectively here, tho Cyrax is a blast). Also I liked the fatality presentations better in 11 - a small nitpick, but something about how they're presented in 1 with the grayed out bgs feels off to me

MK11 is better because it stuck to the story from the very beginning of the game. MK1 started off great with telling us a story for the first chapter of a brand new continuity, but then it went Marvel and copied the trending multiverse formula (which it did NOT need to do whatsoever), and what's WORSE is that it ruined the potential of a "What if...?" kind of continuation to Shang Tsung's MK11 Aftermath ending.

The lack of variety in gameplay is the defining factor for me here. MK11 had players using characters differently, but in MK1, all characters play the same online. I feel like I'm doing the same thing every game depending on the opponents character choice.

That’s crazy even the tournaments had semi mirror matches with diff kameos and their play styles were SO different bc of that I will give you that the meta is huge so generally you only find 1-3 kameos with a main fighter but that’s not to say the other 20 aren’t used and change the characters gimmick and game plan drastically

The only thing MK1 has over 11 is the gameplay speed and combo potential. MK11 beats it in everything else from Story, Costumes, krypt, etc. They both tie with Guest Char options though

My biggest gripe with mk1 is the movement. I had a really hard time adjusting to the dashing and blocking projectiles.

Was hooked onto mk11 for around 2.5 years continuously. Hit elder god almost all seasons . Had to enlarge my arsenal and playstyle for that. I mained erron but had to eventually pick fujin and kabal to climb . But mk 1 has me bored to death since January already (in like 5 months) and i played two KL seasons . EG both … just spamming raiden kano.. and after raiden nerf , spamming baraka kano.

I prefer mk11. Mortal kombat 1 is boring and there is legit nothing to do at all. It’s the same washed up repetitive combos and nothing besides the graphics is unique (the combos are cool, both games are repetitive in terms of combat. I enjoyed mk11 more due to the customization and optimal intros and outros. The co-op towers and krypt was pretty cool too. I just wished mk1 would’ve expanded a bit more with its customization and co-op boss opportunities. Would’ve been cool if they made online 2v2 mode honestly. The game was just a let down and is more boring than mk11 in my opinion in terms of content. The kameo system in mk1 isn’t bad either)

@@onestep ngl to be honest I was on a 5 loss streak due to projectile spammers in mk1 so I was heated when I typed that. I prefer mortal kombat 11 because of its customization and game modes. Towers and the co-op was entertaining. I enjoyed krypt, I wish mortal kombat 1 would’ve brought back 2v2 from mk9 honestly. Besides the gameplay and story it’s somehwat more lazy compared to mk11

My man, Mk11 is literally one combo for mid screen and another for the corner, that is way more repetitive than anything in mk1. And about zoners, you literally have many kameos that give you anti zoning tools while in mk11 you have characters like Robocop and Jade which if you don't have a teleport you are screwed

Next to Street Fighter 3rd Strike, Guilty Gear Xrd, MK11 is probably my favorite fighting game of all time. I had no issues with gameplay, combos or whatever, MK11 is quite possibly the best graphically fighter in the biz. I love MK1 as well. But MK11 had the best version of its characters and best guest fighters in the franchise. The texture work and character sculptures are incredible.

Mortal Kombat as a franchise, always had an identity crisis. Which in some aspects, meant some form of "evolution", and I'm quoting that because it wasn't always the case, which is the complete opposite point I'm trying to make. For a while, it felt like it had SOME consistency and evolution with each iteration? Throughout the 3D era, it kinda felt like they were building something throughout Deadly Alliance up until Armageddon? Then they had a last breath with MK vs DC, which had potential to be further refined, but then they took a step back once they reformed into NRS after Midway fell, and went back to 2D format. And got SOME consistency and innovative and really fun and competitive takes from MK9 through to MKX. MK11 was divisive because it started to stray from the concepts it build previously and people were getting scared that NRS was watering down MK as a whole to start catering to more people ( Looking at you, Krushing Blows and Breakaway ). MK1 is ... in a weird spot for me. It has that gameplay charm, but it wears thin with the lack of stuff to do to keep you engaged and coming back. And no ... Invasions doesn't fix that, no matter how you flip it. If they would rework the idea and make the mesas freely explorable and make them their own "Mini-Krypts", maybe ... maybe. Otherwise ... more game modes. Owh and to calm down with the microtransactions. Soz 4 long reads.

@onestep A lot of that is personal preference though. I prefer traditional Street Fighter to Marvel, for instance. My biggest issues with MK1 revolve around the fact that the game clearly wasn't ready when it was launched.

Yeah, this is basically my exact opinion too, mk11 has the most content in any recent mk game I'd say but I still like mk1 a lot more in basically every other aspect. Before I played mkx or mk1 my only experience with fighting games was mk11 and I never had any issues with the gameplay until I saw what the other two games have. Idk why nrs changed it so much when mkx was perfectly fine with the system in place, I'm glad mk1 is more like mkx + kameos instead of breakaway and slow gameplay.

I take MK11 since it is complete as of now and eats less of my hard drive as I speak. MK1 is still in the making and will consume more of my hard drive than necessary for a fighting game. Even it is 2024 (almost 2025) I can not justify buying games that have me buying bigger hard drives every four months down the road. MK11 so far is complete and also bears some nostalgia for me since its roster reminds me of the old days where Ultimate MK3 ruled our play time-

This is a great video! I tried MK1 a bit over the free weekend but I didn't like it because it looks like I didn't understand many of the new things. My two main reasons for not buying it are the krypt, or lack thereof, and DLC+MTX in MK1. MK11 was pretty bad too, lots of cool costumes were in the crystal shop and even though Boon said there would be no complete edition, there was one and it was way cheaper than buying everything individually over the years... which I did. I'll be thinking it over EVO because there's a pretty good discount on steam, I just don't want to make the same mistake and pay way more later.

Overall I’d have to say. MK11. I also had a rough start to MK11 but after some time got used to it Gameplay: I’ll admit I like MK1 better the roll aways and krushing blows got annoying I like mk1. Breaker feature Graphics: MK11 wins hands down!!! The best looking Mortal Kombat game Customization options: MK11. They had better skins..better moves…you can have different variations of the same character different intros and outros Fatalities/Brutalities: MK 11 was better fatalities in this game are just so so. Brutalities are ok just wish we had more Guest characters: playing Spawn and Terminator was fun. I’m beginning to get tired of all these guest characters though most. Omni-man and Homelanders just wanna stay in the sky all game In the expansion pack/kombat pack2. I hope they add friendships or animalities something unique to the game

I had a better start with MK1 then with MK11… I didn’t like the kameo-System but for me, the fighting in MK1 feels way better than MK11… The big problem of MK1 for me is the lack of single player game modes… BUT… I didn’t have a lot of time to play the game, as I had 5 years ago, so for me it is okay… Invasions are more fun for me, the Krypt was to grindy for me and the towers of time has set me under pressure to play as often as I could… so I played MK11 even if I didn’t really enjoyed it, because of this feeling… I didn’t play MK at online mode ever…

Mk11 is much better. I played it for years without getting bored and would be in king of the hill all the time. Mk1 technically has better fighting system but is BORING. Same combos strings so much restrictions. Its too choreographed for every character

There are combos in mk11 it’s just not premade for you. It’s kind of a sandbox system where you make the combos and mix specials into them. But that led to people who didn’t understand just spamming specials and specific combos over and over.

I started with Mk11 but hasn’t that much playtime. I really enjoyed Krypta and the Tower System. But now I’m fully into MK1 and I love it. For me it’s definitely better because the Gameplay feels way smoother. The look is dope, combos are more enjoyable and the Kameo system is great. MK1 is more fun playing online but Tower System and Krypta was better in MK11. Sry for my bad english I’m from Germany ✌🏼

For me I enjoy mk1 a lot more than mk11 after I learnt the game, I think the kameo system is honestly really solid and overhated because it's new and has a bit of a learning curve. There's times where it works great and I feel like kenshi is the perfect example of the kameo system in action being able to extend combos with a second character because his entire game plan is around the system. I preferred the story of mk1 because it was more like the mk9 story with a tournament and good villains compared to mk11 which just recycled the special forces vs black dragon story to start and kronika was just a boring villain (very cool moveset though) that I never enjoyed even when mk11 was the only fighting game I had ever played at the time, however both would just do better without any multiverse/timeline elements and instead focus on the one timeline and have the internal threats be the main villains like onaga potentially being the next villain in either the second expansion or the next game. Now gameplay, I believe mk11 has some of the most mediocre gameplay in the franchise. The combos just felt so boring and some strings that should have some mixup just don't (I believe Noobs 3 or 4 hitting combo is primarily or all mids instead of a random low, high, or overhead unlike mk1) and I don't enjoy krushing blows because having a huge amount of damage suddenly just doesn't feel as good as having a full combo where you are gradually getting damage but that's just my preference, I just personally enjoy everything gameplay wise for mk1 over mk11 and I believe removing variations in favour of giving a character their entire kit was one of the best decisions nrs made when designing mk1's gameplay I will say mk11 has the most amount of content of the recent titles and the krypt was very well made (wish mk1 got one with the graphics it has) I'd say just the variety that mk11 offered with it's content was really good and mk1 lacks in both quantity and variety which could be from bad decision making during development or the game being rushed out sooner than expected but it's definitely mk1's weakest point and mk11's strongest. After I played both mk1 and mkx I just feel like both of them are better games because the gameplay is the most important part of any game and it doesn't matter how much you put into a game when the gameplay doesn't match the rest of the game's quality

Funny how the variation is “off brand Thor” but Raiden is more creative and versatile with his lightning powers. He can teleport instantly with lightning shoot lightning blasts from his body summon lightning turn into lightning itself and maneuver through space and vacuum create lightning CONSTRUCTS like he’s a lantern from DC and use lightning to levitate and do basically anything like lightning telekinesis. He also doesn’t rely on his staff for anything it’s just an add on weapon if he wants to engage in bojutsu. Meanwhile Thor relies on his hammer and can’t do half the things Raiden does with his powers, Raiden relies on his own raw power not “weapons” And he’s more creative and versatile than Thor. Pretty sure he’d even destroy Thor in a fight NRS just has terrible power scaling and had Raiden lose to people like Shao in mk9 when in the real sense Raiden shouldn’t be losing to anyone 😂 if anything Thor is “Off brand Raiden”

Thor has Odin force and higher stats. Raiden has lower stats, but greater variety. This is literally Superman VS Green Lantern match-up. And yes, although Raiden is strong, he is jack of all trades and a master of none - he does not have the magnitude to win effectively. Meanwhile Thor and Superman have raw impact that would level most. Same goes for Shao.

I think that MK1 attracts mainly Marvel VS Capcom players since it has a similar tag attack approach with its cameo system. But the game has a major issue. If I wanted the entire game with all content available right now this game would gobble down some serious space. Base game is like 100GB and the extra content adds some more 190-ish GB to that. So 300GB in total. What actually justifies this insane size for a fighting game? There has to be a limit or people are just gonna play one fighting game and really only one alone because future games are just eating our internal drives?

I think Mk11 may have more combos but I will die on a hill. MK 1 is the most fluid and fast MK game. The gameplay is as fluid or more than 9. I dropped 11 because it was the slowest MK I ever played and I thought it couldn’t get slower after X. but MK1 is way more fluid and faster than Mk11 and MKX and no one mentions that. It’s unpopular but I think it’s better than them both purely on combat. Story is mid, but combat is a 10 and that’s what I care most about in Mortal kombat. Also fatalities/brutalies are way better, they are short, fun and to the point. MK11 and MKX were just really gross and over the top to the point it was just nasty. I think this is the best one in the last 10 years.

If you use mods you can do it lol, but, If they go back to correct the mess they made, they can put Reptile, ermac, cyrax, sektor, khameleon, animality, Babyality, New scenarios in story mode part 3, special Halloween and Christmas scenario, and instead of putting Raiden as his champion, put Kung Lao, because at the end of mk11 he says he was going Train Kung Lao to be his champion, but Warner is full of sequences so they weren't going to do that, but one day I might do it, to humiliate Warner, if you want you can say some lines For the characters, I think some DLCs too, but in the meantime, let's see if Warner will go back on it or continue

I love both games, but mk11 is forever my number one mk game. mk11 got the best krypt NRS can ever offer, better customization than mk1, unique abilities to use from a character, the DLC mk11 has is probably better than mk1 DLC, the intros and outros of mk11 are epic, mk11 got better stages than mk1, mk11 got better character designs than mk1, and mk11 is maybe the fun action game of the franchise.

They just have to pull an mk Armageddon again. A bunch of cool characters mashed in one game you had sooo much variety. I’m tired of wanting characters to be in the newer games but they are always locked behind a paywall or are just completely absent. mk1 cameos just leave a bad taste in my mouth… these characters should be in the game by default and I feel mk11 has a little bit more *not much* but a little more variety in combos and customization. Don’t know which one I like more but mk1 seems a bit more lackluster as of right now imo

I think it's unpopular opinion But Invasion in MK1 is great and I'm flabbergasted that so many people hate it. The Elements system Make you play with all characters and learning all of them not just one. And also The Relics are so fun and game changing when you go deep into it. And The Klue missions are so cool.

I think mk11 is the better pick, towers is way more fun than invasion, I found mortal kombat 1 to have a boring story, I liked the start but the “shock” at the end where you have to fight multiple titans who were supposed to be the final boss of everything in the game just feels uninteresting and boring, I like air Kombos but when I play the games I prefer kameos opposed to environmental usage, I feel that mk1 is slower and has worse amplify potential, mk11 has the better story, more engaging PvE, WAY better customization and (in my opinion) a better vibe

Personally i prefer to play mk1 than mk11 due to how the gameplay feels. Idk why i feel 1 is alot smoother and i also prefer its fatal blows cause animations but thats all personal opinion so dont come after me for this. Mk1 was also the first ever mk game i ever played so there is alot of bias in my take (Edit) I bought mk11 after i got mk1 and have been playing that every once in a while aswell

Mk11's fighting system is better as its slightly better in regards of frame data and hit boxes being more accurate compared to mk1's system doesn't make sense half the time. In mk1, it will clearly be your turn and you still get punished. You can be doing a hit where your leg/arm is through your opponent yet you get grabbed?????? Crap like This happens too often in mk1 causing you to lose close games.

I had a lot more hours into MK11.. just because of the Krypt and towers. Invasions & Towers is so boring and unnecessary. I’m shocked that neither MK11 nor MK1 had Tag Team. If I had to decide to only keep one.. I would lean towards MK1. Gameplay and Kombos are so fire Roster is my favorite (closest is MK9) Overall vibe is so fresh yet so klassic MK1 deserved lots of it’s critics for being lackluster outside of the gameplay. If I can add a wish: I hope they bring Tag team back. Best to MK1. 🙂

mk11 looks much better visually, the design, the human faces, hair (this one made a big difference, mk1 is horrible) and models are much better dang (I am talking about tesselation, not textures, without a good tesselation, texture is not so important if you are going for realistic... another thing is animation... mk11 still is better, and the photography is better)... mk1 has better scenario only... but the engine is unreal 4 I believe... and mk11 was unreal 3 I believe... gameplay I prefer mk11... maybe if mk1 was faster... and had not that crap kameos
