@Sahadi4204 жыл бұрын
it's not the track....it's the lack of aerodynamic down force on the cars. The car at 1:49 was a perfect example. That trunk needed a spoiler!!!!! You could see it dancing around for a few seconds before he actually lost it. The (too vertical) slope of that back window is creating a little low pressure vortex over the trunk.....making the back end "light".

if anything its too sticky. as you can see a bit of torque steer can send a car into the wall. its re laid every few years and glued every few hours while in heavy use. as soon as you drop fluid it becomes like ice, which is why people slide at the top end. doesnt help that the high banking runs out at the end and you get hit by the wind from the right. also top fuel run normal times there. Another great compilation full of some, well, crazy moments. Anyone for a ‘revised’ pinion? What about a floaty top end? Perhaps ineffective wheelie bars or maybe even a touch of awesomeness (those who managed to bring back what appeared to be an imminent crash). Then of course there are those whose red mist overwhelms normal thinking and a realisation that getting off the throttle may be a good idea. Quality wheel studs, I’m told, are actually a good idea when significant hp is pumped to the tarmac via slicks, likewise, fire crews who genuinely try but are, ummm, lacking something. What about those people who leave ‘bananas’ on the track? The list goes on! Well done.

I noticed a disparaging Comment from 'Chris B' regarding the state of British drag racing... Well, I'm a rally driver so I hate drag racing, but I thought the Santa Pod peeps deserved some love. Two points. One: Yep, true enough, Chris, most Brits view drag racing with as much passion as you view cricket. We're just not interested. For the most part, Brits like circuit racing and rallying; we don't worship horsepower; we don't care who's got the fastest, shiniest, noisiest toy; we're not interested in muscle-cars; we're not impressed by 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile times or by who's got the best numbers. We like driving, not accelerating. We're into the journey, not the arrival. We don't have US-style 'super-speedways' over here either, because we're not impressed by 240+ mph average lap speeds or cars that only turn left. Boring, boring, boring. Let's be honest: drag racing is puerile, straight-line willy-waving, and Santa Pod was built for those few Brits (and bored US military personnel stationed over here) who do, occasionally, enjoy waving their willies in public. We just leave them to get on with it. Why not? They're not hurting anybody. Two: This is a 'mishaps' video, so of course everything's going to look dodgy. Not everyone's rich. Not everyone's an expert. If it's not a Championship Event or International race meeting, pretty much anybody can turn up at Santa Pod and pay to play. If money's tight, you run on a tight budget, just like a lot of the guys in this video. I'm sure there are dozens of small-time, low-key drag meetings in the States where nothing works and nobody can drive and all the cars fall to bits due to poor preparation. The difference is, those meetings aren't shown on KZbin, are they. Yeah, that old American Bald Ego is a fragile thing... 🤭 The Santa Pod official channel elsewhere on KZbin gives a more representative view of what goes on, from Top Fuel and Funny Cars right down to bikes and novelties. At the high end there's no shortage of intelligence, passion or expertise, but I suppose it depends on what you're hoping to see. If it's Merkins laughing at Limeys, you wanna see fails. Well, we've got plenty of fails. But then, KZbin's loaded with videos of humiliating US car disasters, too. Hmm. So all I'm saying is that it's a bit rich drawing conclusions about competence from a fails video...

5:18 Wrecks happen, fires happen, shit melts. But there was no excuse for that clusterfuck fire weenie on the red quad stroking his nozzle while a gorgeous Dodge melts into a multi colored puddle. The only thing missing from that clown were a pair of big red shoes and a rubber nose. I'm sure he "meant well", but if there'd have been a driver trapped inside the car, he'd have come out looking like Sunday's pulled pork barbecue. I'm not saying that Americans do things better (we already apologized for Madonna, didn't we?), but there's NOBODY as good as the NHRA's Safety Safari or as Indy Car's Safety Team. MAYBE the collective crew at Santa Poo might pick up a few pointers looking at some Safety Safari videos. You can GOOGLE it, you know. BTW, Kieran... DAMN good video.

Santa Pod has my vote for the most inadequate, unsafe racetrack in existence. Especially at the top end, half the cars go out of control. Like how long is this going to be allowed until it's rectified??? It's really bush league. Check out the state of the art fire control team!

British drag racing certainly has a style all it's own.

To have some of these cars here in the U.S. would be very cool! Would throw a lot of people off at the track.

So happy to see that the fire crew is well trained in how to use their equipment 🙄
