I always replace the torx with hex bolts they can take alot more force before stripping out Also with that much rust i would defenatly advise cleaning all surfaces with a wirebrush Good video tho ! Im sure it will come in handy on the 03 mondeo Grtz from belgium

Good video, very informative. What would of made it 100 times better would be a tripod so you could use both hands. Anyways, time to get to work !

The last time I changed the front discs on a Mondeo I had to pound on them with a six pound hammer for about 10 minutes to get each one off. I needed to use ear defenders. I hope the back ones come off easier because the tin thing is in the way of hammering ! BTW, you don't need an axel stand, just put the wheel under the strut. But it is worth getting a trolley jack.

Nice job but for future reference, you don't really need to dismantle the Caliper, just undo the two bracket studs and remove it all in one. Obviously only apply the brake gently if at all when you first park up and don't use the handbrake, this will help when removing though, you may need to tap it with a rubber mallet. Also, to stop that guide pin spinning, yes pliers work, but an open ended spanner works even better(I think it's 15mm).

One of the easiest jobs I've yet done on my Mondy - taking the brakes apart and putting them back on took longer than swapping the hub.

If you do this yourself - firstly use a wire brush on everything before you undo it. Also WD40 or equivalent. Once old bearing is off, use a drill with wire brush to clean mating face. Use copper slip on the mating face. Use locktite on the bolts. Use a torque wrench 65nm on bearing bolts and caliper mounting bracket bolts and I think from memory about 25-30nm on slide bolts. This video is okay but its how you might do the job on the side of the road without the proper tools.

A couple of small taps from a 10lb sledge hammer works better than a few hundred large taps from a much smaller hammer. Ask me how I know? It seems that the smaller hammer just bounces back and doesn't put any energy into the part that you are trying to remove. The larger 10lb sledge hammer doesn't bounce back so easily and most of the energy is directed into the part that you are trying to remove. Give it a try next time and you will immediately see the difference.

you shouldn't be using copaslip on the 4 bolts that hold the hub on, they have locking compound on the threads to keep them in and copaslip stops it from working.

Just done discs and pads on rear and have been researching for doing the rear hubs. My bolts are corroded similar to yours. Your video had given me the inspiration to do mine in the new year. I will however have other strategies available just in case they won’t screw out. ( nut extractor, drill hole and cold chisel, angle grinder/ cutter ect) My comments are given to help others and not intended as negative criticism. Although I really appreciate the video I have learned the following. Cant believe you havt put the jack under the car? Please don’t teach people to work on cars with no axle stand underneath. Any nudge will cause damage or injury. 19mm open spanner to hold inner caliper thin bolt. Don’t use copper grease for pins use the proper silicon grease. Copper grease goes hard and will stop pins moving and will swell inner pin rubber on lower calliper pin - vibration stopper ( the previous owner of my Mondeo did this and the rear brakes were sticking badly - I had to mole grip the lower pin out and the rubber was so swollen I couldn’t get it back in- so had to replace all calliper pins ) Use something like plus gas penetrating oil on hub/ bearing T50 bolts heads prior to trying to get them off. Leave overnight if possible. Use “long impact” T50 the normal ones are not made for impact use. Use proper breaker bar you could ruin your racket socket. It is not made for getting high torqued rusted bolts off. Disconnect the abs sensor connector before banging.

Hi HUBBY000001, At 26:14 How you did? You did not open the Brake reservoir fluid? I thought that the piston will move forward. Please, share the secret:)

he was not installing new pads piston only comes out more as pads wear so piston only needs wind back when installing new pads and as he did caliper just fits back on without needing to do anything else

mondeos have a threaded piston so you just use a pair of pliers and push and screw the whole piston. in the front it is the usual one to press if i remember correctly

+1 rounded bolt extractor set can save the day. but ensure, that fits to limited space between hub and carrier.

Especially when the only thing holding the car up is a jack. There’s an axle stand not used that could save pain and damage if your gonna hit stuff
