Nice job. One thing I will say, for a cleaner install...you didn’t need to drill holes to remove the spot welds. You could have either ground-down the spot weld from under the tunnel (as you will be throwing away the auto tunnel anyhow) and preserved the metal inside the car, or used a sawzal with a really thin flexible blade to get in between the two pieces and cut the weld (this preserves both sheet metal pieces. Then, use a single point spot welder and from under the car, spot welded the sandwiched pieces at the same points all around followed by sealer and paint. This method prevents removing the oem sound deadener too. Makes for a ultra clean install. It’s what I did and you cannot tell the car ever had any work done to it.
@SwissTuned2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think that would work, it would be impossible to spot weld the two peices together with a MIG without first making a hole through one of the pieces. Even if you managed to do that, the sound deadening material would burn through the second you try to weld the new trans tunnel. I’ve considered many different ways, this was by far the cleanest and most OEM-like
@EVDOsmurf2 жыл бұрын
@@SwissTuned Who said you wouldn’t make a hole in the new tunnels sheet metal? You just wouldn’t need to do it on the chassis metal. I don’t think you understand what I am talking about. I did it just as I explained and it looks like it came from the factory that way. Also, I used dry ice to freeze the sound deadening and literally lift it off the scribe points. I let it thaw on wax paper and reused it when the new tunnel was in.

Awesome video, I'm thinking of going down the same path, one thing I've got to ask. Would it have been easier to use a manual supra gearbox loom instead of cutting the old auto one up? Also what ecu are you running? Oem? Cheers
@SwissTuned3 жыл бұрын
Hey, there is no gearbox harness, it’s all part of the engine harness. So you would need an entire TT manual engine harness, which is hard to find and expensive :/ Running the oem ecu no midifications needed.

@SwissTuned Жыл бұрын
I’ve been told there were only around 40 sold in switzerland between 1993 and 1998. From those a few were crashed, parted, exported, retired, scrapped… and some foreign cars were imported but not too many either (since importation is a bit tricky here). From there you can speculate as to how many are actually on the road now

Were did you buy the clutch kit, throwout bearing and flywheel from? And what part numbers are they? I live in Sweden but I cant find any Tilton retailer here. I love your videos! Thanks in advance. Kind Regards Erik in Sweden
@SwissTuned3 жыл бұрын
Hey! It’s all from Grannas Racing, you can find it on their website (there is only 1 I believe). I must say that it is quite noisy and vibrates sometimes, which is normal for a twin disk clutch, but if you aren’t pushing much power I would recommend something less aggressive. The clutch feel is quite nice though, definitely heavier than stock but not crazy and i actually prefer it this way. Good luck with your project ✌🏻
@4humm43 жыл бұрын
@@SwissTuned Thank you very much for your reply and quick review of the clutch. :D I'm only running a stock 2jz-gte with basic BPU upgrade. Previous owner installed a 2 disk Tenaci clutch and it rattles a lot, sounds like the car is broken. So I think I will go with the OEM clutch and flywheel sens I do not do any track or drag racing , mostly going for a drive and an occasional ice cream ;) Thanks again and keep up the good work, its very inspiring to watch. Kind Regards

@SwissTuned3 жыл бұрын
No need, it works perfectly like this 👌🏻
@thomasdullweber503 жыл бұрын
if you are using an a/t ecu with the manual trans.you shouldn't see any difference in the way the car run's but the a/t ecu does drop a couple of injector's between shift's when you are using the a342 auto trans.this is to help the trans last longer. So it is not the right way to use a auto ecu on a manual. It sounded like on the video you did you reascharch 😉
@SwissTuned3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasdullweber50 Hey man, my researched showed that both ECUs are programmed the exact same way and it would make no difference performance-wise. As you said, only difference could be the fueling when shifting gears, but that doesn’t seem to really be confirmed... even then it wouldn’t hurt anything to have a little extra fuel, so no need to bother. (Mine drives completely normal so far, and no flames coming out the exhaust either 😉 so i really don’t think it’s worth the hassle) Also, if I wanted the M/T ECU I would likely need the M/T engine harness, which is hard to find in good conditions. This post contains a lot of useful information: www.supraforums.com/threads/a-t-vs-m-t-ecu.361391/ But if you have reliable infos on the mapping of M/T vs A/T ECU I will gladly take it into consideration :) Infos like this can be hard to find, so please do share 🤗

@SwissTunedАй бұрын
There is discussion about this, but as far as I know on edm supras as long as both ecus are for the gte engine it doesn’t matter, the engine works the same. I didn’t have to do anything and my car pulls hard all the way to redline, no problem whatsoever.
@SwissTunedАй бұрын
Actually i think it has to do with the neutral switch on the auto gearbox wiring. Most people solder the two black wires (pin 5 and 6) together, which tells the ecu that the car is in neutral. It allows the car to start with the manual gearbox, but there will be a rev safety limit while driving. So it’s much better to use the clutch switch to do this, especially since all supra wiring harnesses already have the connector ready under the dash, and retain full functionality of cruise control and engine settings. In short, do the wiring correctly and you’ll be just fine with the auto ecu
@BjornFSE3 жыл бұрын
I never knew that a manual swap was so intense in the sense of having to swap out the Gearbox Tunnel. Can't you fit a manual transmission without having to go that far?

I assume you have a M/T ecu then? In that case i an not familiar with the signals needed to let the engine start but i assume you would only need one for the clutch pedal, which is different than the one from the gearbox on Auto ecu. I can’t imagine the M/T ecu reading any signals from the wires I describe in this video since they are not present on Manual cars. So do more research on M/T ecu and which pins allow the starter to work, and then check where those wires go in your auto wiring loom
