@@chrisward7582 mine has this problem where my check engine epc esp and tyre [ressure lights come on my check engine light goes on and off every while but epc keeps going on and off so it drives very rough going on the gas it has a delay sometimes and they cant seem to fix it i had some vacuum pipes replaced i had the throttle body replaced but no luck yet also a piece of my clutch broke off and punctured a hole in my gearbox xD had that all replaced also , that was a week after i bought it and the mechanics said the previous owner already had this as there was no metal in my gearbox so they most likely just closed the hole off and it just opened up again when i drove it.... also no difference in the clutch even with a big piece missing somehow

I've had electrical problems with my 09 gli. Right rear door didn't lock and the sunroof broke (I had to take it to a VW dealer for that fix) the door lock was kinda a pain to fix but I did have to troubleshoot quite a bit ( found out it was the lock motor and I just bought another one and it works flawlessly now) and my fuel gauge only reads about 3/4 full on a full tank ( I think it's a sending unit common problem on all "older" cars) but VW has a digital read out for fuel range so I just use that and it works fine. Other than that it's just common problems from 10 year old + cars headlights were foggy but I put new lenses on and some cosmetic stuff but nothing major. Each car is and individual thing so keep that in mind not every car has the same story to tell and the problems can be just as different. Definitely don't be afraid to buy a mk5 though. Mechanically mine had been fine and started up 100% of the time I turn the key and it's so fun to drive and mod so don't be afraid to buy one even if it has problems. Nothing is perfect especially used cars but forums and videos like this help out so much so don't be afraid to work on your own car!

I just bought a 09 gli today, is there anything i need to look out for, it has pretty high mileage (158k)
@F00TZ
@F00TZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@iceyybandit7787 I would start with basic wear items first ,belts, chains, bearings, clutches, brakes etc. But more specifically the time chain tensioner can go bad and cause a nasty engine busting failure if left unchecked. ignition coils can crack and go bad usually throwing a check engine light and a misfire code (easy fix, just replace them) other than that as long as those are all looking good or delt with and maintenance is kept up no major problems will happen to these things. Mechanically they are pretty sound as long as you do maintenance (like anything on the road)

I bought a 2009 MkV in 2020 with about 118,000Km (72,000 miles). I replaced the intake manifold with the update that fixes the runner flap actuator issue and the updated diverter valve. The DSG is amazing as long as you change the fluid regularly and don't treat it like and automatic. It's an (automated) manual. Use the same throttle manners you would use with a manual transmission or you'll feather the clutches into oblivion, especially on hills. And for God sake downshift once in a while for compression braking. Also the 40,000km recommended intervals for transmission fluid change is...generous. 25-30k changes while make you and your car very happy. If you can do it yourself it's not that much more than a full synthetic oil change.

Bought my 07 GTI new. Has 139k miles.. Did all factory maintenance till 120K miles.. Totally disappointing. Cam follower was the only recalled item that fell under warranty.. needed ignition tumbler replaced twice.. Burns 1 quart oil per 1500mi... Headliner fell... Sunroof drains are shit.. keyless locks work intermittently...so many electrical, engine, and suspension parts have taken a shit I can't remember them all.. Currently in the shop because AC took a shit and is bogging.. Yea it is a fun car to drive, just not to own.

I have my 07 GTI since new. About to hit 130000 miles and just had dsg service done yesterday. The shop told me they found leaks and I would need Brake Vacuum Pump and new valve cover gasket, also a new hose for the PCV system. New small cracks on my CV joints (replaced the CV axle 4 years ago on one side and 2 years ago on the other). Head liner sagging a little. The driver door lock is faulty, needs to use a physical key to lock and unlock. A bit disappointed so many things are starting to go wrong, but I think I’m disapppointed because I don’t “love” the car anymore as I’m looking into something new.

Got a deal on one of these cause my buddy burned through 3 half shafts in 1 year. It was the mounts. And even brand new ones had more slop than I liked. So what i did for the engine/tranny mounts. I actually had some gas cylinders laying around from the trunk of another car and made some custom brackets. 1 for the top of theengine to strut well. 1 for the bottom of the tranny to the frame. I also loaded the lower mount with poly to stiffen it up. Combats the counterclockwise force applied moving forward. Can feel the slop when reversing still, so I may add another even. But moral of the story. 1 solid rubber mount, 2 hydraulic mounts, and 2 (or more) gas mounts is what it took to hold this motor still 😂😂

Inside Front fenders have a sponge that should be removed as it collects moisture and will rust. Headliner usually is bc ppl don’t leave the windows down a little bit so the car gets too hot inside. Good film Tinted windows and a front windshield visor will help.

If you have trouble to pull the oil filler cap or the dip stick and you have a lot of vacuum then the PCV is torn and will need to be replaced. Be careful when doing a tune-up and pulling the ignition coils, the connectors tend to break easily due to all the heat at the top of the engine.

I had shuddering, got the car poorly maintained :'( for 1300 but didnt mind because I've worked on VW's for 8+ years, I used Lubegard 63010 Platinum Universal ATF Protectant, 10 oz. and it made all the difference, plan to get the fluid drained and re-filled here soon. Hoping for the best lol, but never pressure flush them out. Sometimes it's said to keep the old fluid because the metal shavings have created the perfect hydraulic pressure for the currently worn out parts. Yes, these transmissions are very delicate to fluids so only use recommended or labeled safe for our vehicles.

I was just at my mechanic and asked about carbon build up on my MK5. He told me that if your car runs really rough at start up in cold weather, or when cold; you probably got build up. The best way to delay this happening, is to you Super Unleaded well known fuel, like Shell, ExxonMobil, and so on. Off brand fuels, especially regular unleaded, should be avoided with these Turbos. Mine, thank God, is still great after 104000 miles! But I've had to replace the clutch, headliner, and headlights because of broken mounts.

@@CashedOutCars My car almost did. After going crazy trying to find the problem with the vvt system, I finally found the problem! There is a tiny check valve in the cam chain cover in the oil journal that feeds the vvt solenoid. It wasn't allowing oil to flow to the vvt solenoid or phasor. I pulled the check valve out and the car is perfect now. Absolutely crazy. Even the VW shop I took it to didn't find that. Even those very experienced with these bpy motors don't know there is a little tiny check valve in that cover! I don't even know why it's there in the first place.
