My coffee cup spilled and sank through the cup holder that stank out the car, is there an easier way to get to it to clean it from underneath or do I need to follow through each step? 😰
@commonvolk5 жыл бұрын
i mean... i guess you could try... but there's lots of little nooks and crannies down under the cup holder in the car... you'd never get it properly clean without taking it apart.

Hey great video! Any tips on removal of the trim piece around the start button and gear lever? Want to get it wrapped but it’ll have to be removed somehow.

Not really. it may be glued in there... I'm not sure

Hello, Thanks for the video! unfortunately, some of the chrome trim on my eGolf has pealed, possible from a females bracelet when removing something from the front storage with the door that swings up. I can see that its an independent part/frame... would you know where i can find a replacement? I bought my eGolf from the United States and had it shipped. Locally it is difficult to find such parts. Thank you

I got so much money down that slider, even my license. Can I screw something up if I open it? Like can I make some damage to it?
@commonvolk5 жыл бұрын
of course you can screw something up lol... i mean... that's like asking when you use a hammer if you can accidentally hit your hand hahaha. But if you're careful, and take note of what we're talking about in the vid I'm pretty positive you will be fine

Is there anyway to access the bottom part of the cup holder without removing the whole console? my credit card went inside between the slider space! I had kept the card on top of the slider and moved it back. It went inside through the minute space there.
@commonvolk6 жыл бұрын
Starting at minute 3 you can see that the entire gearshift area all the way back to the armrest is a single part. You'll have to remove all that.

Hi, Merry Christmas, excellent video. Quick question can the cubby with the piano black 4 motion cover come out without dismantling the whole console? Id like to cut a slot at the back so they my iPhone 10max can fit and the door close, it's frustrating that it can't close

yep.... if you watch the beginning of the video it explains how

is there anyway of just removing the cup holder? one of them little things that keeps the drinks in place has broke and gone inside the cup holder. thanks
@commonvolk7 жыл бұрын
nope :( The cup holder mounts from the bottom of the center console area. You have to remove everything to get there.
@barrytreamer28677 жыл бұрын
Common Volk ah ok then, do you know if they can be bought or just have to buy a whole new Venter console
@commonvolk7 жыл бұрын
i bet once you pulled it out you could repair it. basically there is just a rubber band holding the plastic cup holder supports. You could probably find the plastic piece somewhere in there then put it back together. Also, Im pretty sure you'd have to get a whole new piece, however the aftermarket may have something.

Thanks for the teardown. I'm trying to remove the "ashtray" so I can build a holder for my phone without disassembling the whole console . I've popped it up using allen keys through two of the four holes but I'm having a hard time removing it. I can't seem to remove the piece that holds USB and Aux connections and I can feel that the cable behind it is holding the tray back. Can you remove the USB and Aux connections without removing the whole console? Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
@kngbwsr8 жыл бұрын
Bret, Your cords must be a bit shorter than mine. I imagine you've tried jiggling it loose? When I reassembled ours there was plenty of slack to plug them in then replace the holder. However yes, you can disconnect them from behind though it's not easy. It's simple, just a pain. You'll need to remove the trim on the right hand side of the console near the carpet to get direct access to the back. There are 2 sections to remove, the lower, which you take out a screw in the foot well and slide it back and down, and the upper piece which goes all the way from the dash area to the seatbelt area. There are a couple screws to remove for that as well. The space is quite small though once you remove the panels so it will take some finesse. The connectors just clip in. so you'll need to find the tab on each to get them to release.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll give it a shot !

I just had to wiggle it like crazy and pop the trim directly above the tray. Thanks again for posting the video and giving me more confidence to wiggle harder!

Very good video. 10/10 Any video on removal of dash tho
@commonvolk6 жыл бұрын
I don't have video of that. However it's not too hard... (if i remember correctly) 1 - remove trim around stereo, which include the vents above the stereo 2 - remove trim piece above the steering wheel (the faux leather piece connects this part to the steering column. You don't need to remove it from the steering column though) 3 - remove vent trim piece on drivers side of steering wheel. This is partial held in place with some weird metal locking tabs that expand behind the dash molding. You'll need plastic tools to push these tabs down to remove... seriously a PITA 4 - remove gauge cluster trim 5 - there are screws that hold the gauge cluster in, 2 (i think) right above the steering column, and I think 1 to the right and the left of the gauge cluster 6 - pull straight back on gauge cluster (there may be plastic tabs holding it in place... I don't remember, you'll have to look to be sure), careful not to over stretch the cable that connect to back of gauge cluster (which can be removed at this point) It's not hard, it just takes patience and finesse. taking off the vent trim is by far the hardest part.

Thanks for the video!! I didn't think I would find any info on this at all so I'm very appreciative that you posted this! I'm going to be installing a nice sound system in my mk7 gti (manual) and I was wondering if the buttons surrounding the shifter could be utilized for custom controls such as gain control and switches as well. It looks like there could be room there from what I could see in your video, and I know there are "blank" or unused slots. I'd like to make it look as clean and factory looking as possible.

Hi. I removed that small bad boy cubby box but I could not reinstall it. It just doesn't work (open-close) inside. I almost broke it. I tried many times but nothing worked. Any ideas?
@commonvolk7 жыл бұрын
There is an alignment post in the back of the cubby where it needs to align with the console. You have to make sure that it all lines up with you put it back in otherwise you'll just break stuff. It just snaps back into place, so if you're needing to put a lot of effort in to put it back, chances are it's not aligned right.
@mevlutunlu427 жыл бұрын
Common Volk that was the solution to my problem but I had to find it myself cause your reply was too late. thanks anyways. I fitted it without any harm. thats the important thing

So other the hole and post alignment there aren't any clips in the back? Just the 2 front lower ones? I figure it'll be easier to fit if I install the lid trim after

Can you do a video on how you took it apart to this point. I want to take mine off to add USB ports like yourself but don't know where to start?
@commonvolk7 жыл бұрын
I would, however I don't want to take the center apart again ahaha. That being said, you want to start by: Taking out the center cubby then remove the trim around the shifter then remover the cupholder.
@Nowheredotcom7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's ok I figured you wouldn't want to... Fair call. I really want to run a USB cable around the back under the armrest. Really don't want to take the whole console out. Reckon it can be done by just taking the cubby and armrest apart. Feed the cable down the side of the console? thanks for replying to
@commonvolk7 жыл бұрын
The cubby and the armrest don't come apart without the rest. It's a single unit :/
@Nowheredotcom7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I mean come out not apart (at 2:04 you demonstrate it coming out). I want to be able to drill a hole behind the rubber lacing in the cubby, feed a USB cable underneath and around the side of the console (passenger) and then bring it back up under the armrest through the latches. I noticed that for US models you have to mod the hinges so you can open it and I saw that there is a fairly big hole which should feed through a cable. I want to do that, reckon it can be done?

I figured it out - the armrest has clips and you remove the armrest unit and then remove the staples and replace it with real leather. It's actually very easy: MK6 GTI
