@hangooksaram1238 жыл бұрын
Next plans are a LSD, front and rear sway bar, bigger brakes, and coils. Possibly a bigger turbo (probably the APR big turbo kit) as a preventative measure since the IHI turbos are known in the mk7 community to fail. More is20's than the is38 but both are known to fail. In the very distant future I want to do an AWD swap and a VR6t if the engine ever fails.
@delanobeek8 жыл бұрын
Now the GTI with the performance package is sounding like a great proposition. For about $1500 you are getting bigger brakes and a LSD. Damn good value if you ask me. I am so gonna get one of these. I have a 2013 jetta 2.5 with the manual transmission but man I need more power. Truly the best affordable all around car you can buy, the REAL QUESTION IS 2 door or 4 door?. As I just turned 27 today I probably will grow into the 4 door in the future. Sigh..

Test drove a 6MT and DSG today, felt great. Hmm....it would be a daily driver with potential autocross/HDPE events if I get the time and funds. However, kinda worried about that now...noticed you're in the same region as me as well haha. Austin local here. What issues have you incurred, if you don't mind me asking?
@AndrewMalkin7 жыл бұрын
Here's a list of the issues that I have had so far. Keep in mind that mine is a 2015, so I've only had it for two years so far. Only modifications that my car has are an upgraded rear swaybar, wheels, and tires. -Gauge cluster replaced due to fogged glass -Music freezes intermittently while listening to MP3s. No solution available -Rear spoiler uprights became un-adhered. Replaced with new design -Shifter replaced twice. First time because it was peeling. Second time because it was throwing engine codes. -Battery died and wouldn't hold a charge. Replaced with normal size battery (car originally comes with smaller battery). -Suction pump replaced under recall -Oil temps often reach 270°F during track use, at which point it starts to cut power -Even with traction control and stability management off, they still intervene fairly often -DSG transmission overheated during track use and leaked some fluid. Two cylinders were also misfiring. -During a spark plug change I found oil on the spark plugs (explains why I was burning quite a bit of oil). The cam cradle assembly was seeping oil into the spark plug tower. Associated gaskets were replaced. Overall this thing has been a pretty big headache.

The 3rd gen EA888 is some piece of engineering excellence. Not only it has the above mentioned in video direct fuel injection and variable exhaust valve timings, but it also incorporates: - integrated exhaust headers in the cylinder head - water cooled, allowing for shorter length, better turbo spool and improved flow, because of lower exhaust gas temperatures; - fully electronically controlled turbocharger wastegate and bypass valves - no more springs and vacuums and sh...; - fully electronically controlled cooling system - engine management can control the temperature of the engine to a degree never seen before; higher temps when cruising or driving around town, and lower temps when thrashing it to keep things safe and to reduce knock; - two injectors per cylinder - one before the valve, and the other after it; this way carbon build up, which has been direct injection's major flaw is not present anymore. And this is the stuff that people can read about in VW's documentation.
@winemeer73837 жыл бұрын

Interesting about the coolant because I've noticed mine drops a few degrees when I start to drive it harder. I wonder why they would want higher engine temps at cruising speeds?
@dolamyte4 жыл бұрын
@@rambow70 It's basic Stoichiometry; Higher temps because the engine runs leaner, leaner engines are more fuel efficient. Also, reducing the cooling demand reduces engine load, which again, helps the engine to run leaner and thus, more efficient. Running lean is tricky as it isn't engine safe and requires comprehensive thermal management to avoid knock, perdetonation ect. It's really nothing new or novel, and all "efficient" brands like Honda pioneered this long ago. On the other side, driving hard isn't about being efficient so the engine runs more rich which is also safer. Rich engines run much cooler because the added fuel aids in thermal transfer. Look up the law of conservation of mass and enthalpy.

Essentially the Gen3 EA888 is the same iron block as previous generations, it just has a revised cylinder head. The new head encompasses refinements of the fuel / ignition system , valve train, thermal and air flow dynamics, and I'm sure more that I'm yet to comprehend. I'll informally list off some refinements which when combined truly enhance this power plant. *Im just a VW owner / Car nut / unemployed college student / Technician - please add anything I might have overlooked. Integrated exhaust manifold w/ coolant flow - decreased warmup times, decreased ambient manifold temps / decreased cool down times prior to being under load, increased thermal capacity and efficiency Dual exhaust / intake cam phasing i.e. intake and exhaust cam variable valve timing , and multiple cam profiles. Revised cam follower / cam driven mechanical high pressure fuel pump / vacuums pump Speed density intake air flow monitoring - No need for inline mass air flow sensor Revised PCV / intake diverter valave - reduces & redirects blow-bi Revised ignition coils with individual ground per coil pack. Revised valve cover w/ integrated cam caps

My self and and Fill Lee are brothers from different mothers and fathers but we share a certain commonality. Although my 2016 GTI is a bone stock version, I recently completed a round trip of the USA. 7858.2 miles as a matter of fact. I'm a bit jealous of Filo's 350hp but my 220hp was more than adequit. Here's one instance that I'll share. While driving through northern Indiana, road construction was going on. Speed was reduced and we were forced to slow down. With cars on both sides of me, this other driver was riding my backside and would not back off. So I thought, as soon as there is a clearing, I'm going to make him suck some of my exhaust. Boom, I went from 55mph to 110mph in a blink and that guy was like a fart in the wind. I slowed to a reasonable 78mph and I never saw that guy again. What a feeling. Utility n fun without breaking the bank. My only qualms with the car was, although the seats are fairly comfortable, they aren't Caddy seats. But I still love it. Hmm, Stage 1 or 2 or maybe stage 3. Insane.

This is what I love about VW. They engineer their cars almost as if they are meant to be modded for more power. I have a 2004 1.8t jetta, and with a little over $1k in mods and a tune with a stock ECU, I'm making around 220hp and 250tq at the wheels while still having great drive-ability which was a huge factor for me because it is my daily, and also so far about as reliable as old VWs get (knock on wood). The Mk7 GTI with a nice stage 2+ unitronic tune is probably coming up for me hopefully in the near future.

If anyone plans on tracking a Mk7, I highly recommend getting an oil cooler and, if you have a DSG, also getting a transmission cooler. Mine is stock other than a rear sway bar and the oil temps would get up to 270F nearly every track day. At that point it starts to cut power. I also recommend getting camber plates because the front doesn't have nearly enough stock and chews through tires as is.

Great story. But I believe Philo's Gti has more than 400hp because my car is tuned to Apr racing's stage 2. I have the stage 2 software upgrade with the downpipe and carbon fiber intake system. I'm pushing 346 crank hp with the stock IS20 turbo. If I upgrade to stage 3 (IS38 turbo) my car is capable of surpassing 400 hp. With all the proper upgrades the engines can achieve 500 hp with stock internals.

Great video! Kind of funny that you mentioned the channel's love for Asian cars so you feature a German car...driven by an Asian. Am I the only one who finds that kinda funny in a silly way? Also any chance you're going to do one of these beautiful videos on the Mk7 R? I love my (lightly modded) R and would love to get your channel's take on it!

His car doesn't have an Open Diff, it has the VAQ "diff". It's a torque vectoring double clutch halidex system.

These German engines are good for gains. My friend has mk2 Leon Cupra r which is basically a mk6 golf r with front wheel drive. This makes 265bhp but his made 377bhp on stock turbo and that's without the rs4 return valve and front mount inter cooler

i own mk7 gti with perfomance pack and dsg transmission, and i can tell you, its whole another car with electronicly controled lsd and bigger brakes. Its made for track days. In general euro made cars have totaly different conception than american or japanese made cars. Europe makes new cars eco friendly, driveable and underpowered because of strict europe laws. Golf gti/R is most desireable hot hatch in europe together with fiesta RS, honda civic type r, audi s3/rs3 and bmw 1m.
