What other helpful Mk7 videos would you like to see? Suspension work/upgrades? Engine maintenance? Let me know here. ✌ 🍺

I'd love to see a video of replacing headlamp bulbs without removing the whole assembly, if that's even possible. Every video I've seen involves removing the whole assembly, and therefore the bumper, which seems absurd, just to replace a bulb.

Thank you, @@malamar467 . 1) Do you have a Mk7 GTI, or different MQB car? 2) Are they factory halogen bulbs, or does your car have the lighting package (LP w/HID bulbs)? Answers will help me choose the right car and options to do a video on.

Helpful addition (some folks have asked) NO snaking or metal tools into the drains. Rubber is very thin and brittle. Don’t do it. Something clarified for the viewers: I originally made this video for myself and my parents (who live cross country), so it’s super informal and doesn’t show me pouring the water. I used a medium to large measuring cup (biggest you can get) with hot water and slooooowly pour it down the open drain holes from the top. This is all that’s needed. Hot water dissolves and flushes the debris. You watch down below at all the crud that comes out. Once it’s clear water coming out, move onto the next drain holes. Hope this helps folks.

I ended removing the orange spider traps. they are the reason why the drain tubes get clogged

I wonder if you can stick a line down there and push the traps off? Would be easier than taking off everything to get in there

Having worked on more and more vehicles since posting this video, I am starting to really agree with @Adreyan on this one! I can't recommend it to the public as I don't know what possible repercussions long-term (if any), but on my own vehicles, I will be removing the "spider traps". Small risk compared to the ROI of preventing water/flood damage inside a vehicle from clogged drains.

So my drain is clean and running free , but I still getting a leak in the center right by the rear view mirror.

Howdy! Sounds interesting. More info is needed in order to help: 1) Year, make and mileage of your car. 2) What state you live in. 3) Is the car parked outside most of the time, or garaged? 4) When you have a friend or helper slowly pour water on the roof of the car, can you sit inside and see/hear the water coming in through the rear view mirror?

@@mrich7363 10/4. Sounds like there is a failure at the top of the windshield (seam to body), or possibly in the sunroof channel and rubber insulation. It doesn't have to be large at all to let water pass through. Your smartest play is to take it to a repair center in your area that specializes in VW and Audi. If you don't know of one, hop on Google, type "VW repair [your zip code]", look at the results, click Reviews, then click "Most Recent" to filter them. From here, you'll see who has been giving good service in the last 6 months. I strongly recommend independents over chains and dealers. Filtering to the recent reviews of a business is more helpful and relevant than experiences beyond 6 months, as personnel and operations change (sometimes yearly). Let us know what you find once it's been diagnosed. Would love to hear

I blowed in it with an air hose and ended up heaving leakage under passenger footwell . Any suggestion ?
@TheTexican05
@TheTexican05 Ай бұрын
Is it possible you located the EVAP drain under the car by accident? The hose material is essentially identical, so it's an easy mistake to make. If you did, then it likely dislodged debris inside the EVAP box, behind the glove compartment. Water was backlogged in there and basically "swishing" around, with only the small lips of the EVAP drain tray to isolate it. This is precisely what I encountered on a customer's 2004 Honda Element that received the very same treatment. If you pressurized the correct drain hose under the windshield cowling (which we never recommend), then you may need to visit a qualified European repair center to have it checked out. I know this response is ~8+ months late for the OP, but I am sharing it here for the other viewers who read the comments. ✊ 🍻 👍

How do you get that plastic cowl off after removing the wiper arms?

Found it. I started by the side mirrors and pulled the plastic out gradually and carefully. Pulls perpendicular to the window.

Thanks for the info. My E30 has similar drains and the trick I saw was to use nylon line from a weed whacker to clean them and clear any dirt. Given that you said they were fragile, I'm not sure this would work... but if they're plugged and you can't use compressed air, maybe come up carefully from the bottom.

I like your ingenuity on the weed whacker twine! Definitely go from the top down and let gravity do the work. Seriously: hot water poured slowly in a gravity feed method does wonders. 👌 We use the same method (with MUCH hotter water temps) to dissolve severe corrosion on battery terminals before cleaning the last bit with a wire brush. So the strategy defined in the video will handle 90+% of your dirt and debris in the drain tubes. 🍺 😎 Think #coloncleanse for your sunroof drains.

Have you ever had any leaks in your car by the sunroof buttons? I just started to notice little droplets and I bought the Kit that VW sells at their dealerships. It’s basically a sticky tape that uses 3m type of material that goes over any cracks in the sunroof area under the wind breaker. I’m trying to figure out how to remove the sunroof wind “breaker” I cannot find a video or link at all. Do you know how to remove it?

Hey! I have not been following this in the last couple months. Apologies for the delay! What year and model is your VW, and how many miles? I believe there are some sunroof leaks/issues covered under VW N/A.

To remove the wind visor compress the visor with your hand and on each end doing one at a time. Slide it towards the rear of the car and it should release it. To reinstall it line up the notches and slide the ends forward.

@AngelM2266 - following up with you - what did you ever discover about your sunroof deal? Was your leak one of the many Pan roofs affected by VW's now-infamous "phantom cracking" deal? (folks with the larger panoramic sunroofs on VW and Audi were experiencing stress cracks during normal vehicle operation)
