Platinum XYZ yea they are different, airplay is better quality compared to Bluetooth. And bluetooth literally plays anything that my phone produce, that’s not a good thing, like when I’m typing, I don’t need to hear that typing sound on the Bluetooth speaker, or when I’m taking a call, Bluetooth speaker just stops playing music, I don’t want that. I want my speaker still playing songs while I talk calls, or keeps playing musics while I’m using my phone to watch KZbin. That can’t be done with Bluetooth, plus, Bluetooth does not retain the lossless quality. That’s why most speaker companies uses WiFi not Bluetooth, such as Sonos or heos. With airplay, I can play multi room audio with different speakers that support airplay. I can play my HomePod in my room, Samsung tv(that supports airplay 2) with sound bar in living room, Sonos in another room, Bose in the kitchen, all at the same time. So yes, Bluetooth and airplay are different, but airplay is way better.

Tim Koken the two speakers are incomparable, one is a portable Bluetooth speaker with 2 driver, and another one is a WiFi home speaker with 8 driver. The Sonos one is a close competitor, but still the HomePod won in terms of sound quality. Another one that’s similar to HomePod is Bose home speaker 500, but it costs $349. A lotta people say with $300 you can get a tons of other speakers that sounds wayyyyy better than HomePod, but could never give me an example that even come close to HomePod, sound or size or build quality wise.

I think the biggest red flag with this device is how it locks you to an Iphone. Say you buy this homepod and a couple of months later you give a relative(Dad, Mom, Uncle whatever) your Iphone and transition to an Android device. 400$ down the drain because Apple once again wants to lock you into their ecosystem? Also last time I checked Apple Music was a crappy non user-friendly platform so even with an Iphone I wouldn't appreciate being pushed into using it because the Homepod does not fully support other platforms

I wouldn't agree with you. In my opinion, people nowadays switch between different brands all the time. You could be an Apple fateful today and decide you want to try an android device in a year. The nature of this device is that it gets used by controlling parties. You invite friends home, somebody got something on his phone, connects and shares it with everybody. You see what I'm saying, airpods are a piece of tech that you probably would not share as much as a pod supposed to stay at the center of your home for everybody to use (android or apple users). I expect the product to not be top notch with android devices, it's not optimised for it, but to completely block the acces to android users is not a smart move. Nobody is going to be like ''oh damn I love my Pixel/Galaxy, but that HomePod is so good I'm ditching my android and shelling an extra 1000$ alongside the Homepod!''

Well, technically it can connect to Mac and even play from Spotify with Airplay, but yeah Airplay is not really the best option out there anyway, you do lose quite a lot of controls with that, i mean the fact that you have to use secondary method like Airplay to play an other Apple product is kinda lame, atleast it should've worked with all Apple products. I love a lot of things about Apple, but they do shoot themselves in the foot, sometimes, when a product is not usable for so many people. Then again, people who literally buy every single apple product no matter what, will still keep them roiling in dough. Like, a friend told me over 6 years ago, before I got my first iphone, iphones and apple are an investment. If you're either not willing to go all in or you only want specific stuff and nothing else really matters, don't go with apple or iphone. Thankfully, I really only care about the phone and really nothing else. I couldn't imagine spending this much on a smart speaker that doesn't do what all basic smart speakers do, and cost much less, at that. I'm good with my little $60 bluetooth speaker; it sounds good enough and I only need it to play music.
