Nexus 7 (2013) Review!

Just re-watched this shortly after Marques' new Pixel Tablet video. It's unbelievable to see how the whole IT industry was shaped but still how unique and important these Nexus devices were. Nexus 7 was my first tablet and it was truly a king during that time when the tons of chinese unheard brands and even the bigger companies started to flow the market with their devices. For now, they are mostly gone but this wave was inevitable regarding of the constantly changing needs of how users think of a tablet device. Now I'm on Tab S8 Ultra but the Nexus is still fully functional.

If they released this device in 2019 the exact same but with 2019 interior specs I'd buy it in two seconds. The form factor, the screen, the price, even the battery life, it was an amazing device.

Josh Halterman I've found my 2013 Nexus 7 is running really well with Lollipop (5.02) and working just fine... it's holding up to be a great tablet! Wish I could say the same for my 2012 Nexus 7 (w/ 5.1)... it is REALLY a slow experience, to the point of being barely usable.

Almost 10 years ago I bought the Nexus 7 2013 very spontaneously and I really loved this tablet. Carried it around with me almost everywhere, especially at university. Played so many games on it and also used it for watching KZbin, taking notes, lots of reading and many more things. Such an amazing device. 🥰

I think that a decent camera on a tablet in really necessary: taking a picture of info, a paper, searching something on goggles, reading a qr code, virtual reality game etc...

VR gaming on a 150 bucks tablet.... like, serious? QR codes dont need a good camera, also the other things... if u need to take a good photo, just use your phone/camera and transfer it with bluetooth

I just bought one of these. I swear it looks bigger in the videos than it seems to in fact, be. It is still in the box but the box is about the size of a VHS tape only a bit smaller. Your videos are great Marques. Thanks.

You can get them slightly less, but I wanted assurances, so I bought directly from Amazon, and not the marketplace. Very satisfied.

rostbeefsndwich If the next Nexus tablet is a 8" device,I'd rather have the Nexus 2013 version as a 7" tablet is usually more portable. The Nexus 7 with it's 1.5Ghz quad core and 2GB of ram should be enough for the next Android OS update.

Adam Leigh Thanks for your advice Adam, you've certainly helped me out with my decision. But I also feel that touchwiz is more user friendly and better for multi-tasking. However the nexus has a far better chipset and half a Gig more RAM i found in my research, so i guess it would be better for gaming and the 1920 x 1200 display will be better too, so i will most prabably go for the nexus now. Connor Pritchard You probably went through with buying the Nexus 7 by now and you did good. Just wanted to give you the heads-up that despite the fact that Samsung's TouchWiz interface looks good and all, it's pretty bloated and hogs lots of your device's resources. A good rule of thumb is to replace it as soon as possible, or to avoid it altogether.

I miss this tablet so much. To this day I think its the perfect budget tablet. You could play some fairly intensive games, the screen was gorgeous, the entire tablet was snappy and responsive, and to this day I have not been able to find a budget tablet that is comparable to it. Everything else, even today, seems to have a worse display, lags in even just the home screen, and has terrible build quality. It really felt as if google stuffed a mid range tablet into a budget range shell.

I am watching it on my Nexus7 2013 four years later, in the times when they just lunched OP5 with 8Gb Ram, Nexus is still doing well, I was big Nexus fan unfortunately they stopped producing them. I am still using Nexus 6 as my main device, but looking for an upgrade(and cannot decide as I still like it, but I like new gadgets). Unfortunately i recently dropped it and cracked the screen. it is nice to see how @MKBHD progressed in those years, he was very good then and now is probably the best tech reviewer in the world! I wish to do the same for living as I love new technology and especially now when i am unemployed and can't find a job(after working for 10 years for big company). He seems like a such a nice guy apart from the fact he is a Pro. I am probably much older then him, but I could learn a lot from him. You Tube must love him. I love my Nexus 7 2013. I will say this about the rear-facing camera, though. I don't use it for taking pictures as much as I use it for scanning documents, worksheets, and homework for college. It makes a great pocket scanner in that sense, if you use the right app for the job! I think it makes the Nexus 7 2013 a bit more productive than the previous design.

I went from an iPhone to a Nexus 4 around January and just bought the new Nexus 7 today. Definitely worth it. Having similar devices for different purposes should "streamline" my life at home. Really looking forward to keeping this on my nightstand.

I was actually looking at tablets today this morning ( was kind of hoping Google came out with a Google Pixel tablet pro version) looks like I'm going to have to wait for the Galaxy tab S9 Plus. But then it made me think about the Nexus 7. I had a long time ago. I originally watched this video before I bought the device this tablet was amazing. my nexus 5 only uses about 500-700mb of its 2gb of RAM, 2gb is more than enough, especially considering that these nexus devices are supposed to be the bargain bin spec monsters, i haven't experienced any lag or stuttering on my nexus 7 or nexus 5, so that speaks for itself, it has plenty of power on tap :)

Only the second ever Android tablet I bought after the Motorola Zoom. Still have it. Still use it as an eReader and some simple games and KZbin for my kids. Pretty funny that this has wireless charging from 2013 which is still relevant.

I purchased the Nexus 7 - 2013 tablet in US in Aug 2013 and it was working very well and I was so happy that I purchased it, until one day ie., a month back (Feb 2015) this has stopped working and only displaying "google" logo and not opening further (ie., hanging). I have taken to two authorised service centres in Hyderabad who have confirmed that nothing can be done and this only has to be scrapped. Since the warranty period is also over I have to just throw it in a corner (as I have not yet decided to dump it in a garbage). Before giving this to the service centres I also tried in all the ways shown in the web sites available to reset the tab but invain.

I might be a little late but I think your tablet is bricked.You might want to flash it.Find some tutorials on the internet,it wouldn't be too hard.

Haruka Kononose Thank you for the reply. Do you think that the Nexus authorised service centers are not aware of this? Both of them kept the tablet for a week before informing me that the mother board crashed and it requires replacement which would cost around $180. (Rs.10000) approx. I tried to flash it by following the methods available on the internet but in-vain.
